Hi, I just wanted to post this picture and thank everyone who helped me celebrate my 40th in Perris yesterday. I know I had fun with all you all. What a great tradition, doing number jumps. Thanks Marie, for organizing everyone in the sky( and keeping order on the ground,as always), sure does feel good to get "completes" Thanks Melanie for hosting, really couldn't have done it without you. :) and Mary thanks for the cake and doing the party. Here is what I know...copied from an email. James “Whitey” Whiting around 1979 at Jump Hawaii, Dillingham Airfield, started Party in Paradise in Hawaii. The Party was designed as an annual event for all Whitey’s friends to come and experience the beauty of Hawaii. The December 5, 1981 Twin Beech tragedy claimed both Whitey’s life and the aircraft. In 1984 a community effort to renew the Party was undertaken. Harry Clark at Genavco Aviation, Honolulu International Airport, provided their C-47 and the Party was on. Up to 100 people from all over the world would camp out on Dillingham Airfield each year. Jerry Bird, Roger Ponce and George Jicha were brought over to Hawaii to help organize and teach those in attendance. Party’s continued into the early 1990s at Skydive Hawaii, until drop zone politics interceded. Skydive Hawaii and Sky and Hell presents: The return of Party in Paradise The Party in Paradise 2008 will begin December 29, 2007 and continue to February 18, 2008… some say it has been rumored that the new Party 2008 might never end. l. We have a limited amount of space for camping, so let us know when you/your group plans to attend. We also need to give the State names of those camping for national security reasons…. Why waste a parachute on the FAA?, or were you referring to the bench?

My favorite is opening a beer with a student tandem harness! The laterals work great! Call the student over after the last load of the day, and open your beer on em! :)

I once took a blind man tandem. Focus on the sounds and feelings... like the sound of the engine changes at 1000 ft. or it gets wind when the door opens. You can discuss the sound of speed, the wistle of wind, the flapping of the slider, etc. Rehearse your exit, like with any student. Use tap commands like, when I put my foot out and tap your leg, you put your foot next to mine When I tap your head in the plane, duck and put you head out in the wind.When I tap your arms in freefall,open them up. When I tap your head in freefall, pull the ripcord. I also took extra time to let him learn the plane and the gear. I showed him what not to touch, like the gas selector, the door handle, the yoke, etc. He explored and learned my gear in the same fashion. Good luck and have fun. If you are lucky, you will learn a little about yourself as an Instructor.

Please forgive my ignorance, but isn't a Course Director appointed? just like an S& TA is? I think that ratings document, and are accepted as proof; that the candidate posesses the qualities that would lead to a successfull appointment. My hang up is Appointment = Politics (subjective) Ratings = Minimum Standards (objective). My history goes... I was an S&TA (early 90s') for a DZ here in LV, then moved to a different DZ here in LV and lost my appointment. I decided to become an I/E because it wouldn't be taken away from me. As I read here somewhere...Its not about the rules, it is about helping people... or something like that. JK

It depends on who you are having sex with and how long it has been since your last jump!
