Fireflyer replied to Fireflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i always point it up, i think it was just cocked a bit from me messing with it... i too agree. especially when you are leaning back on the rig... -

i have a BOC and there is not much bridle exposed, but my pin cover has no velcro or anything, just a rigid tuck under flap -
Horny Guerilla on Non-Freefly gear

my loop is so tight i question if the pin will ever come out! i had received a few horror stories of the air grabbing the inch of exposed bridle and pulling the pin, but i have to say, i'd be amazed the air on the exposed portion of the bridle alone would pull my pin considering all the effort I have to put into putting it in! but that's hubris, and I don't intend to find out just yet! -

Thank you all for your input... I plan to make that the last gorilla on jump for a while (until I get another container!) -
never in skydiving (yet): but I am sure it will happen (ugh): just an ankle though! i HAVE broken 2 shoulders and separated 1 snowboarding (I compete and instruct it: you'd never guess haha), torn apart my shoulder and broken my hand mt. biking, and a wrist skateboarding. no more of that sh1t though. I am too old to do anything but fall out of planes...

Horny Guerilla on Non-Freefly gear

I think I know the answer to this already, but I got conflicting remarks/comments from the following situation this afternoon: Another jumper (300 or so jumps) approached me to do a "horny guerilla" this afternoon; myself with 60 or so jumps. For those not familiar, or if it is a local term (still a newbie here), it entails locking/docking via the feet and falling on your back. The issue is I have a Vector II - not freefly-friendly. I got split answers on whether or not it was, well, "ok" or "relatively safe" to perform THIS PARTICULAR maneuver (I have NEVER considered freeflying with it) BUT: I got an "ok" from a 4000+ jump jumper but was later chastised from another 2000+ AFF instructor. It should be noted that I value both opinions and respect both of these persons immensely. Both were my teachers. I simply want to open it to the board here: what are your thoughts? The guy I jumped with indicated that this was a simple maneuver, but admittedly, I know that wind up the ass-end of my Vector II is never a good idea. I DID ask for a second opinion before the dive, and the opinion I received stating "its ok" is from the person I trust most in skydiving. Not that it matters, but we actually pulled it off, and held it from exit to 7K, broke, redocked on belly, and played a bit. Falling in that "lounging" position was awesome; I am looking for a new container for next spring right now!! In any event, I'd appreciate comments from persons of experience, and any horror stories too (I got 1 or 2 at the DZ about this issue this afternoon..) Thanks -

To windy to jump today despite not a cloud in the sky. I have been SO busy with work and travel and this has been the first weekend in over a MONTH I could jump. Granted, local boros near me were evacuated just last night for flooding (7-8 inches of rain), but man I was bummed: 34 mph on the ground and no one really at the DZ. Should be better tomorrow I was told. Great. I have to work!

$290.51 (Girlfriend test) Geez... Lemme tell you I stopped to think for a moment...

"Made it!" Seriously, though, I planned to jump more. The Man (aka J-O-B) kept me too busy.

is that what you call them?

ah, i love Skydive Pennsylvania, my home DZ. jeff and nikki remember everyone's name, and always welcome you with a smile. from jump one to my 61st, they and their DZ are key factors in my love of skydiving. only after visiting other DZ's (some VERY well known and out of state) did i realize their contribution to the sport. offering a porter this season (at least some turbine each season) and a 182, i'd be happy with any plane though as they have it all: great people, all you could want in facilities even in a small DZ (camping, showers, rigging, etc), personalable and caring instructors, and just the overall feeling of home and safety that makes every jump there a great one.

yup, see the doc. shoulders get worse not better with neglect. i was just as the local hospital this weekend after going over the bars on my bike. i have broken my right clavicle twice, separated the left one, and now strained the right again. i PLANNED on jumping this weekend, but didn't want to injure it further from the weight of my rig and got it checked out. just get it looked at; call a local orthopedic surgeon or hit up the emergency dept if your plan is solid! ;-)
