  1. You are correct in your statment reguarding reserve packing cards and sealing...I posted quoting the BSR's.......But i have a question......You list a Sabre2 150 as your main and show 14 jumps on your profile.......What type of program are u taking????(IAD/PFF/AFF) I just got my "solo" and have finally recieved permission to start trying "sport canopys" but even after 33 jumps(32 of em stand up) my instructors are going to make me wear a radio(dont blame them...common sence..be safe) I am just curious on how you came to be flying a 150 semi eliptical with 14 jumps????
  2. Sry....had to check the BSR's on this one.........Section 4: Parachute Equipment Doctrine....Packing Card Data "In the case of commercially operated schools or centers, where the equipment will not leave the normal place of opperation, the above required information(packing card) may be kept in an easily accessible master log." Reserve Sealing "A recognized parachuting school may choose to maintain a master repack log for its own equipment, rather than seal each reserve container, providing this equipment does not leave the normal place of operation."
  3. Thx for your responce guys...I was hoping for some what more detailed advice than staying below 1:1,ie: canopy types etc....on the 1:1 thingy though,I assume at my weight(150lbs) I should be looking at a 170 and a 150 would be pushing it? Again thx and i hope some of the experianced jumpers/instructors can provide me with some more detailed feedback. DeNReN
  4. 1st thing.......If it dosent feel right, dont do it! Jumping when your anxiety is to high can lead to unstable deployments etc. As someone still learning to be consistant in a stable FF, My instructors keep telling me to relax, and being relaxed is a huge part of being stable.....I found this out the hard way 2 jumps ago when i got nervous at deployment alt, dearched and flipped through my lines during deployment....next jump (being anxious about FF) i decided to do a hop and pop from 5k....The jump went well and a instructor watching was able to have a good look at my pull..(im pulling to fast and not countering with my other hand..starting to induce a forward flip) that along with a little panic caused it.......I was quite nervous that jump and it showed up at the worst time.....Again if it dosent feel right....dont do it! 2nd....I have seen a few responces to other posts by very experianced skydivers saying that the day your not nervous in some way shape or form is the day to get out of the sport...as u will become a danger to yourself and other skydivers.Afterall...dont we all jump for the rush? No fear/anxiety = No rush 3rd....I've rambled on long enough.... Never jump if your not ready. Blue Skies
  5. As a person who has only jumped "barge"sized canopies and does not have access to smaller ones...i have posted a Q about gear to purchase..unfortunatly,I have only recievied one responce....maybe you could find it in your heart to respond to mine???????
  6. Just off student status with 31 jumps/9 min FF time, I am looking to buy my own gear (used)...I am 150lbs/5'10"....I have only used student gear sofar...280 mantas and lasers (couldnt tell you what the rig is..except large heavy and extreemly uncomfortable) Although my FF skills are somewhat.....ummmm...lacking at times , my canopy control is quite good and have stood up 30 landings (got a crosswind gust one time which caught me out bounced up looking around hoping that no one saw it....hehe) Not having the option of renting smaller gear to demo or borrowing, I will have to rely on advice i recieve from my instructors and from forums etc. I am looking for a rig that will suit my needs as i explore all aspects of skydiving (RW and Freeflying being next in my progression) and a main canopy that I wont want to replace for a smaller one in a few jumps(CREW would also be a possibilty)....all advice and oppions will be appreciated....plz keep in mind that I do not have a large disposable income and this gear will have to last me a few years. Thanks and Blue Skies DeNReN
  7. Hmmmm.....Smoke Jumper eh....lets see....a static line deployment of a round canopy into a forested area with a raging fire nearby....not to mention carrying a additional 200+ lbs of gear(im not sure on actually stats).....and ppl think recreational skydivers are a little insane Stick to your pff program and this time...Dark Skies to you....LET IT RAIN
  8. A smaller DZ located in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, being a school the focus is on the students without taking air time away from the more experianced jumpers....keeping all happy and in the air with two c-182's. Friendly instructors/coaches are always eager to help either the 1st time jumper or the addicted FreeFall student. As I become a better skydiver and try out different DZ's i can only hope that the others are as friendly and safety concious as the Atlantic School of Skydiving. DeNReN (Dennis R Rendell)
  9. Being nervous is natural......your 1st FF is a big step....on the ride up you should be reviewing what is gona happen as u prepare to exit the plane and on the way down...including your emergency proceedures....not leaving alot of time to be "freaking out" ....consult your J/M about this....reviewing/rehershing the jump helps me alot when im feeling nervous on the ride up.......And more alititude...thats what we all want ...ure next jump will prob be a 5 sec delay..than a 10 and so on and so on.YEHAAAA!!!!!....WELCOME TO SKYDIVING!
  10. Again congrats on your 1st FF
  11. Ive seen quite a few ppl not flare when there suppose too....all result in hard landings......stay on radio a few more jumps...U will learn when to flare.its more a matter of learning the depth perception....then u will become one with the "flare"..
  12. Can I drink to non beer offences???????
  13. Congrats......What DZ do you owe the case of beer to??.....I'm hoping it's WaterVille
  14. 5 tandoms before a solo course....damn....sounds like a cash grab to me
  15. A Beer....thats no fun.....hehe.....tell ya wut.....I'll buy as long as u can keep up(my brand).....just dont jump the 135 the next morning
  16. All i can say is WOW.....I just got my Canadian Solo Lic...30 jumps,9 mins of FF time starting from IAD's...my "A" Lic is still a bit away.......I admit ive been slacking and have taken my time becoming comfortable in the sport.......which is wut I'd reccomend to U sir.........dont rush it......ENJOY every jump..........its only a piece of paper.........as far as getting a "D" Lic in 4 months :|...WOW......and again ....WOW........is there a "E" or a "F" Lic???
  17. Hehe.....try jumping in Nova Scotia,Canada.......dont like the weather....wait till its too late to make the hour drive to the DZ...........then the weather is PERFECT.......been there, done that
  18. Your supposed to be nervous........Thats the whole idea of skydiving...afterall...why would u ever do it......if it didnt make ure stomach knot up.........once uve master the exit....you (and I) will be trying other things that will have the same effect
  19. Hi All .....I've been reading posts and have seen several refrences to new jumpers getting there "A" lic after a fairly low # of jumps....I'd appreciate a site addy so I can better understand the US lic. system.I just qualified for the 1st Canadian lic. (solo) ...the "A" lic here requires 25 jumps with 10 min of FF time before u can even start working on it..........BTW...things not to do on your 1st "solo" jump.....#1 Dont hold up the load getting permission to go up without a J/M (makes them cranky)...#2 Dont spot the group long looking for the perfect out point (makes them crankier)....#3 Dont de-arch and do a flip through your gear as its opening (severe bruising WILL occur once you push the bag away and the canopy opens).....on the upside...hehe....the other jumpers who were previously cranky are quite forgiving once they learned you had a malfunction ...hehe....Blue Skies
