  1. Hi, A few jumps ago I pull the ripcord on my container with spring-loaded pilot shute and I heard the metal of the spring hit my head 3 times... A few jumps later I felt the pilot shute hit my legs... I'm wondering how dangerous this really is because I have seen a video of a guy jumping with a spring-loaded pilot shute going bad! The pilot shute fell between his legs and the canopy deployed between his legs/under his body... and I DO NOT WANT this happening to me as this would be my worst nightmare... I fall pretty stable: no shaking, no turning. Maybe I should be a little more unstable on deployment ?
  2. I guess jump #22 will all be about barel rolls
  3. Hmm okay 21 jumps here and I did my first barel roll on jump 21 I threw one arm under my chest but the thing I noticed it wasn't the 'cleanest' of barel rolls It felt as if my chest was wanting to turn but my legs wanting to stay stable to the ground... I was thinking: do you have to close your legs or something to make it more err elegant ??? thanks for any help

  6. 21:0 interesting thread... I wonder how much of them are human error (packing fault/unstable pull/...)
  7. Belgium AFF: 1040$ (7 levels) Jump tickets: ~15$ Gear rental: 9$
  8. I would not be jumping out of airplanes if I were you better await good times first
  9. does a full face helmet limit your visibility or ability to move your head ? damn i should get to try one upfront
  10. Which one do you prefer ? I never jumped a full face helmet but I'm considdering to buy one
  11. Alot of people keep telling that if you don't get nervous you'd better quit skydiving (for safety reasons). I disagree!!! It's like saying: If you're not nervous driving your car you are less safe. I don't see that. Usually fear WILL make you more carefull because you don't wanna die, but I don't see fear as an absolute requirement for safety. You know you are persuing in a dangerous activity so you should be CAREFULL all the time (both in driving a car and skydiving) but that doesn't mean having NO fear makes you less carefull. I haven't been scared in my car for years but that doesn't mean I'm less carefull! Personally I'm more nervous when driving to the DZ and when boarding the plane because that's when I'm thinking about it all. But once in the plane and up the ride to altitude I'm less nervous... Little nervous again when the door opens but the second I leave the plane it's gone... just be safe everybody
  12. 1 day of ground training 2 days of air training Did one level 2 times: AFF L2...
  13. I didn't find any level particularly hard... The hard part for me though was the first few jumps... I had to repeat level 2 because I freaked out and my JM's where throwing too many signs at me to alter my body position.. It just confused me I guess... but after that everything when smooth... Just have a little faith in your gear and yourself and relax.. It works
  14. Something I experienced the day before yesterday... I do all my gear checks in the plane: everything ok. During the freefall I noticed something wasn't right! My jumpsuit had openened up completely although I had completely closed the zipper in the plane. It felt as if my belly belt was comming loose too so I decided to pull a little higher than planned. Took a look at my canopy; was ok. Looked down and I could see my underwear !! Jumpsuit had opened up completely, cheststrap was as good as completely loose, bellystrap was very loose too ! So I figure this is dangerous ? I use a rented Vector 2 from our DZ (still student) that's actually a little too small for me I tighten the legstraps real hard though!! i allways have alot of pain in my legs after opening.. it's so painfull I wanna be on the ground ASAP... maybe I should get a better fitting rig ??
  15. practice your body position on the ground and you'll be allright most people seem to have problem with their legs at first so think about legs in the air. On the ground I tend to stretch them a little more than in the air because in freefall it feels like they are stretched and then they're not! you should feel presure on the lower part of your legs. no mather HOW you are flying, try to have a robust body position! just keep them legs stretched and just seperated enough. Arch arch arch and soon you'll feel it's easy to be stable I know how disappointing it feels when you did a bad jump. Guess it's part of skydiving cuz it stays when you're trying new things that don't seem to work out.. I remember from AFF that every jump I made was more fun... good luck
  16. 3 days here 1 day ground training and 2 days for the complete AFF course which I did in 8 jumps (had to repeat level 2) and now... solooooooooooooo hihaaaa :oP starting initiation for RW soon
  17. I have a video of a linetwist if you're interested http://users.skynet.be/sky37022/twist.avi (divx required)
  18. newbie here: I did 11 jumps so far (3 solo) I'm less scared than in the beginning: hell I want to get out of that plane cuz it's hot in there The things that help me: a) the knowledge I am in control... I KNOW i can fall stable and do a pull in stable conditions... the "only" thing that can go wrong is deployment (so here comes b) b) the experience that once I reach my pull altitude and some highspeed malfunction would occur I'm clear enough in my head to recognize the situation (without fear) and help myself (fi: cutaway/reserve) I can visualise most situations and I've gone trough them alot of times in my head okay I'm no expert (to say the least) but I know that as long as my gear is allright I'm fine... so I obsesively check my gear every time I go up: 3-ring system okay ? legstraps okay ? all handles clear ? etc... can't wait for my next jump
  19. Hi, I made my 3rd solo jump today with a 40 lbs lighter camera man and it didn't turn out too well... He transitioned from belly to shute axis all the time to try to keep me up... will this difference in weight give any problems once I start doing RW ?? Especially since my friend who is did AFF with me is 40 lbs lighter too I'm 176 lbs thanks
  20. euhh newbie question since I'm still at level 4 and tracking has yet to be learned What's kind of horizontal speeds can you archieve while tracking ??? thanks
  21. Same here in Belgium man I'm currently at my AFF level 4... been cloudy, windy & rainy last weekend and it will be like that next weekend too I'm thinking of going to the dropzone and beg for a jumpmaster to join us to a wind tunnel so we can practice a bit. Downside is it's a 4-5 hour drive but it'll be great
  22. forgot to tell about the smell... is that really just the smell of clean air ? or does it smell like that because you're breathing it @125mph ?
  23. will do once I complete my AFF ;) I've been on the website: looks great... I'm jumping at Zwarberg right now... small club but great people...
