in Denmark we have (for both SL and AFF) a "stability test" jump - exit in a cannonball, hold it for ten seconds, then go stable on belly. And a tracking test (and for AFF'ers a hop n' pop). I combined the two in one jump, and it was great . Even got it on video, heh. 10 levels in all for AFF. Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst

I don't own one of these devices - yet. Have learned on this forum that it's advisable to set it slightly lower than for instance your breakoff altitude - that way the dytter is a backup in case you lose altitude awareness and you avoid becoming dytter dependent. In all honesty, I'm wondering how many adhere to this rule/suggestion/advice. Talked to some freefliers about it - got various responses. We talked about dytters failing (just broken, battery dead, not on etc.). Some paraphrasing of the answers: "That's why I have two!" "You should use your eyes and alti, but in reality you will forget to now and then, so a dytter or two are good for ya. Don't depend on 'em though" "Alti's fail too - and you ain't looking at the ground in a head down or sit, so get a dytter or two" Some have admitted to a more dependent approach, where they carry two (or more) audibles and checking them as far as them functioning goes is part of their pre-jump check. I can relate to the "forgetting to check alti" thing. Last jump I glanced at the alti for the first time at 5000 feet - too busy trying to maintain proximity and level...(level..ity?) with my partner and enjoying myself while sitflying. Big wakeup call and I've been going through over and over htf I could forget about altitude til just above breakoff time. Internal clock helped me there I gather, but what if the jump had been from 10 000 feet instead of 13 000? My questions are: how common is dytter dependency? And more importantly, any mental exercises (telling yourself "remember to check alti" on the plane seems to be somewhat flawed) that'll ensure you're more heads up altitude wise? Who's going to Aerograd (Russia) this summer?
vonSanta replied to vonSanta's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Jerri81 Deal. I'm probably going for weeks 28, 29 and 30, but it isn't definite yet (gotta find out what the boss thinks about it ) mr2mk1g I can probably put you in touch with someone who knows all about the costs, Visa etc. I'll ask her if it's OK a Brit d00d asks some questions . I know that from Copenhagen, the trip back and forth is around 2800 DKK (£255). WrongWay LOL yeah man, and just a few years ago Russia was the big bad guy, and we'd probably be shot for going to this DZ . Hope you find that passport :). Raistlin Bastard. Hope you all show up. It'd be an impromptu "From Russia With Love" boogie . And I've seen some of the video from last year - there are some skychicas there worth noting. Or more than noting. This is gonna be cool. -
Who's going to Aerograd (Russia) this summer?
vonSanta replied to vonSanta's topic in Events & Places to Jump
As Aerograd (near Kolomna) is quickly becoming *the* place to be for northern European skydivers, I am wondering if any DZ.commers are gonna go there this summer? I'm going, along with my sis and most of the more active Danish skydivers. Aerograd has up to five Antonov-28's and a MI-8 helicopter (same price as AN-28's). $9.50 for a ride to 14k, $2.5 for a pack job, riggers and facilities available, Russian 8 way RW team available for coaching, and Zipster was there last year to train their FF coaches. And they're building a windtunnel. Am pretty excited about the prospect of going there. Gonna have a chance to check out the AN-28 during the eastern boogie at my DZ, but I hear it's similar to the Skyvan. It would be very cool if other DZ.commers are going. Due to the demographic makeup of the site, it's heavily tilted towards the US, but I know there are plenty of Eroopheeans (that's "furryiners" to Yankees ) here. At €280 for airfare back and forth and free camping, it's cheaper than going to the US. Can't beat the jump prices either. So come join us. It'll be fun -
Well, he's smart. The more titles that are beneath him, the mightier he is. Just wait til he figures out the Random() function. No need to painstakingly look up each letter to see what it means, then correlate it with a a dictionary. As I said, he's a smart dude Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst

I wanna thank everone for their replies - it's much appreciated and I thik that at least I personally have learned a bit more about what to/what not to do/say, and about the skydiving culture in general. Thanks dudes. And dudettes. Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst

Tried changing - it jumped back to a very old icon. Have tried setting it to "none" and then uploading a new - jumps back to the old one. The pic I've chosen is JPG, less than 10k and inside the 65*75 pixels limits. (it's attached). I see others changing their icon frequently, so maybe I am doing something wrong? Tiny holes near bridle attachment on canopy...
vonSanta replied to vonSanta's topic in Gear and Rigging
Noticed some very small (less than half a millimetre) holes near the bridle attachment point on my Safire. There's about 5 of them. My sister (who owned and jumped the canopy before me) says they were there when she originally bought it. Canopy has passed all yearly inspections (DOM 2001), but I haven't actually asked the rigger about 'em. It has about 380-400 jumps on it and is otherwise in good shape. I suspect they're caused by friction - maybe the previous owner wasn't meticulous about making sure no fabric got caught between the metal ring and the "hole" in the bag where the bridle exits? Am I wrong about this? Also, anything I can do to prevent more/bigger holes appearing, aside from beign meticulous about checking for fabric caught between metal ring and the "hole"? Under bridge swoop video - what is the soundtrack?
vonSanta replied to vonSanta's topic in The Bonfire
You're getting close I think. Sounds like Audioslave, but it isn't Show Me How To Live. Gonna relisten to that one just to make sure. Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst -
Under bridge swoop video - what is the soundtrack?
vonSanta replied to vonSanta's topic in The Bonfire
Saw a really great video of a guy swooping under a highway bridge in Brazil (I think). Really liked the soundtrack but despite trying to google the lyrics, I haven't been able to find out what the song is called and who made it. This clicky links to the video (if there are copyright issues lemme know and I'll immediately remove it). Right click and choose "save as..." Video is just 2.89 mb, so it's not a big download. If anyone can gimme the anme and artist, I'll give a beer when I meet that person Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst -
Check out the full report if you want to find a listing, complete with references, to the alleged acts of misconduct. Whether you agree with the reports or not (if you do, I expect you to have a very good understanding of the topics at hand - preferrably you'd be as much of an expert as the scientists doing them), it's pretty clear that the administration has tried to supress, distort or otherwise manipulate with results. Not proving them wrong or examining them, but flat outright manipulating with them. I'd recommend anyone to read the report and check up on the references. There are numerous to pick from. Mebbe those cocerrned scientist dudes are wrong a bout loads of things. I checked a few of their references - they held up, so I bet tehre is *soething* to it all. I have one I'm not using. Mostly because there's 40 gigs of important stuff on it - and bad sectors, cannot be read . Gonna do some low level stuff to get to the goodies. Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst

Noticed something funny about us low timers (I have 87 jumps). We tend to want to give student jumpers advice when none is needed or even worse it's counter productive. Case in point: an AFF student on level 6 - backloops and stuff. Great kid, bit shy, but really cool kid. Am always asking him how his jump went and what he's doing next. He asked me how I did the backloops and I had to bite my tongue and say "uhm, I did what the instructor said, what did he tell you?" I try to keep my mouth shut when it comes to "advice" on doing stuff. My thinking is that his instructor knows this stuff better than me and will brief him better. It is, however, very tempting to go "oh when I did that, I just..." But I keep my mouth shut outta respect for the instructor and the well being of the student. In my experience, most lowbies don't. We're too excited and want to share (I am as guilty of this as ayone). Am wondering a) is this a common thing found in skydiving or just an aspect of the skydiving culture in Denmark and b) how to, in a very diplomatic manner, tell other lowbies they better let the instructor do the instructing? I've said it in as diplomatic a way as I could and still gotten angry glares (and I consider myself a rather diplomatic dude). When to speak and when not to? Pretty hard to say. My rule is it's fine to speak about the jump and the experience itself, but one should refer to the instructor for anything technical. Even if one sooo badly wants to say "this worked for me...". Bad rule? Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst
