They dont charge you to join, but take a percentage of your work. I think little work for a long time is the norm and there are few full time actors, the ones that are full time are in LA and either waiting tables or rich enough to take time off. Really, the great thing about showbiz is the potential for something big to happen. That breaks up the mediocre, day in and day out existance most people live on a regular job. This way you have something else going for you, and thats what I like about it. Luck....definitely helps.

A former advisor is suing him for $64m (£37m), alleging breach of contract and fraud, while a vet is also taking legal action to retrieve an alleged unpaid bill of $91,602 (£51,729). Forget the 91K....64 million??? Even for him that cant be a drop in the bucket.

So here is what happens so far. I called an acting training center here in SD, turns out to be a local talent agency. They call me and tell me they are having an open call that day, and do I want to come. Ive never even remotely been involved with anything like that before and tried to procrastinate it, but then gave in, they say to be there at 7:30. So, I get all decked out and try to look as perfect as I can, go down there, and there is this room with about 25 people auditioning for a contract. The preliminary audition was to walk the runway, like a model, like you see models in a fashion show. Needless to say, a lifelong geek like me...Im really nervous about doing this. Well, I thought, Ill probably be one of the last in line, so everyone else will be making a fool out of themselves before its my turn, by then I might feel a little more comfortable with it. Well, that day was my day. They went in alphabetical order, and as a result, I was the first to have to "walk the plank" Everyone looking, staring at me, OMG. I was for sure I got turned down, but thats okay, it was my first, and I needed the experience of it, so I was proud that I made it through in one piece without getting too embarrased. Turns out, I was one of the four people who were selected to come back in the next day for a second interview, the other three were girls. Then I had to do a commercial script after studying it for an hour. He rated me 4 out of 5, then offered me a year long contract pending training, which has to be completed before I can sign, and have to complete training in six months. I dont have to take thier training or photography, can go where I want (any real talent agencly is prohibited by law to tell you where to take training or headshots), but I might go with theirs anyway since they let you work it off in lieu of paynig. One of the girls, who I thought was really hot, was told to lose some wieght, I cant believe he didnt tell me to do that, I could stand to chop off a few pounds. But I cant believe it....me an actor? Wow. They saw something in me, I dont know what. This was really unexpected. All I can say is WOW! There is still training, auditions after that, nothing is certain, but what a hell of a start! I thought it was a big deal to be an extra, now it seems like Im already ahead of that. Im beleiving it but I cant believe it.

Yep, thats the first big hurdle. Then the next is doing what might be years of extra work until you can get unionized. Its a long road that hopefully, eventually, will lead to a career change. By that time, 100% of employment in my career field will be in India. Casting isnt one of those jobs they can export for five bucks an hour to those living in grass huts and working hard for their daily bowl of rice. Unless, ofcourse, they decide to make a movie about jobs being outsourced. Working as a special skills extra (military, sports, etc.) can sometimes be a shortcut into SAG/AFTRA. Keep your ear to the ground, and get your name in the hands of anybody who might be looking for actors/stunt people with your particular skill set. Thanks for the advice. Eventually will be looking for a shortcut into SAG. I think what Ill need on my side is creativity, and the kind that makes you stand out.

I knew it! I spotted it from a lot of hype then they want your credit card info...selling nothing but BS.

Im making some moves to start working in showbiz, finally found an agency you can register at that does military/ police casting, they dont charge anything, I cheked them out and talked to them and they are definitely legit. Searching around for casting agencies, I found others that advertise casting calls and will let you sign on for a fee after taking your credit card info, or will give a free trial period after getting your credit card info. There are long standing rumors about you can get taken advantage of in Hollywood if you are trying to get into showbiz, so Im wondering if these places that charge a fee are pretty shady, just trying to get your money and not seriously into the casting business. The agency I found was pretty straightforward and no doubt they are the real thing...and they dont charge a fee of any kind. They basically said you start out on the bottom and work your way up, were pretty conservative about it, as opposed to this stupid crap about "being discovered" and all that bullshit...then they want your credt card info. The only thing youre going to get discovered by around there is some pimp in East Hollwood. Sometimes you just gotta be persistant enough to weed through all the bullshit (and bullshitters)

Would anyone living in LA (or going to LA) be interested in sharnig a stretch limosine to go party at some high end clubs Christmas Eve night? Let me know. Ill be staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel and can use thier clout to get into certain clubs on VIP status (ie - you walk in in front of the line). This will be for about 2 hours from 10 - 12 or more depending.

_______________________________________ Maybe, it's just me but, I believe, you can never go back. I can't see, subjecting myself to seeing a bunch of folks noticing how so and so has 'really gotten fat!' or how bald the prom king is or trips down memory lane. I've spent all these years trying to forget half of my time in high school. Chuck LOL You know, I just saw a posted picture of this chick I was talking about...definitely NOT my type! Hardly even recognized her. Funny how your mind plays tricks on you sometime, while I was talking to her I was thinking about her in HS, totally different from now...I didnt have any idea of who I was talking to. I go along with the others, HS reunions are a joke, waste of time and money. HS was boring, defitely not the high point of my life, and I couldnt wait to get out of it and start living. I spent 25 yrs forgetting about it, think Ill keep doing that now.
-
Yea I get that impression, but what was weird was this "stop calling me all the time" shit, what was that? I dont know, maybe Im not boring, they are, and thats some sort of ego thing, who knows. At any rate, Im glad I didnt end up wasting a lot of time and money...cause 'the truth' reared its ugly head The only thing I really remembered about HS was wanting to get out of it because it was, well...boring.
-
Screw it, never been to one but was considering it after 25 years. So what turned me off was this chick I knew back in HS who I suddenly started talking to. She asked me to call her on Sat two weeks ago, told me something about how I should come to San Antonio (a 2000 mi drive) and spend the holidays with her. Sounded like a plan, but ofcourse Im kind of suspicious not seeing someone after 25 years, but she sounded pretty nice. So, I call her back tonight to see if she still wanted to do that, she gets pissed off for some reason and tells me to stop calling her all the time (I called her two times in two weeks after 25 years). She was unbelievably rude on the phone. WTF??? I had talked to a few others I went to HS with when she had her Halloween party and they kept it pretty brief, didnt seem to want to say much. I think Im backing away from any HS reunion stuff, doesnt sound like a good idea. Yea, I knew them back in HS, think Ill just leave it at that. Anyone had bad experiences with HS reunions?

Actually the big question is: Do you want to call them 'sir' or do you want to be called 'sir'? "Get your shit together private!" "Yes sir!" Or how 'bout: "Private, youre out of uniform and you didnt shave this morning...get down and give me ten..." "Yes ma'am" "...and when youre done, I expect to have my office and bathroom cleaned to my expectations...." "Yes ma'am" '....fucking ROTC bitch....'

Well...bring lots of deodorant and bug spray, most of what youll be seeing is subtropical weather and BIG roaches. There is also plenty of tall grass, flat land, and traffic jams to suit your taste. Oh, you want fun things, I can think of two: 1. Caligula XXI off Westheimer 2, Getting out of Houston

That would include the motel/apt I used to live in for 5 mos, and alll of Singer Island? Allright it better not fuck up Singer Island...I was planning on visiting back there someday. Have great memories of that place. Tell that damn hurricane to stay TF away from Singer I. I was living just between A1A and the intercoastal where they have the jet ski rentals. That was about 3 yrs ago. I'll let you know the condition of Singer Island after tomorrow. It's been beautiful blue skies out all day..hard to imagine we'll be experiencing such a dramatic change by morning. So you live on Singer I.? Gee, Ill have to come out and visit sometime. I know I used to see all these hot FL chicks out there....puts CA to shame. Its a little on the hot side though...no longer used to it.

In West Palm, we're sorta ready...we're hopeful that the low pressure out west and north will force the hurricane south of us and even better would be south of the Keys. If that happens, we'll just get the high winds and rain on Saturday and all clear by Sunday sometime. I just don't understand why Wilma would maintain strength after making landfall near Ft Myers to continue across to the east side of the state. Many from my area are already planning to evacuate northbound sometime tomorrow. Hey, I remember West Palm, was staying there while on contract 3 yrs ago and living right by the bridge to Singer Island. Hope that fing hurricane doesnt go screwing everything up. Id kind of like to remember that place for what it is and not a barrage of rubble left behind by yet another hurricane.

Oh jeez...thanks for telling me that. Now I can stop stalking her.

Cutaway on first Static Line jump, Weight issues?

A 370 lb can barely get up out of a chair, much less a Cessna. The climb to altitude must have taken forever with him in it.
