What are the Natural Disaster Risks where You Live?
jumprunner replied to lawrocket's topic in The Bonfire
Not a bad choice, used to live there. It only stays hot from june to middle of Oct, but the only really hot months are July, part of Aug, first part of Sept, so its not as bad as they make it out to be. Try N. Scottsdale. -
What are the Natural Disaster Risks where You Live?

Earthquakes, ofcourse, but in this area the earthquekes tend to be relatively mild. Fires when Santa Anna winds pick up...thats about it. -
The point going back to: Where are you getting the energy required for electrolysis? It takes a ton of electricity to make this happen... Mabey people are refering to the Hydrogen cars that have a water byproduct? http://www.spiritofmaat.com/archive/watercar/h20car2.htm http://www.bmwworld.com/hydrogen/ http://www.spiritofmaat.com/archive/feb2/carplans.htm

WTF? I remember reading stories about con artists claiming they had engines running on water. Where the f&*k is this coming from? The "free energy of formation" of water is approx 500,000 joules per mole. That means to liberate the hydrogen and oxygen from the water that much energy has to be supplied for each 18 grams of water. There is no CHEMICAL reaction involving just water that can liberate energy to run an engine without first supplying this "free energy" of formation. In other words, given the nature of the 2nd law of thermodynamics, you would always have to supply more energy than you get back from the engine, or in other words, the "free energy" ain't free. If the reaction involves water and something else, then you still have to pay for the something else. Now there is a lot of nuclear energy tied up in water. Unfortunately liberating that is not a straightforward proposition. Whatever the theory is, they have cars that run on water and theyve had them for many years now, only they havent been marketed. Electorlysis is used to liberate hydrogen and oxygen which is then goes through combustion. I dont know how much oil they can pump out of the ground before supplies begin to become exhausted at the rate they are being used up, but I havent heard the middle east complaining about drying up wells. I do know that petroleum has other uses beyond the gasoline fraction and too many areas of menufacturing depend on petroleum product feeds. That makes me wonder if the high demand for oil is solely based on cars. The Fischer-Tropsch process was used by the Nazis and is still used by South Africa to produce the gasoline fraction from coal throug a catalyst. There are vast coal reserves in the US, so that is yet another alternative to increasing fuel supplies which has been ignored by the government.

Try 'em with a little salt...taste better that way

"I've never seen anything like this," said 47-year-old Robert Weems, who waited in line for three hours Thursday morning at a gas station 25 miles north of Jackson, Miss., before the pumps ran dry. He eventually found gas nearby for $2.39 a gallon. "It's a black mark on our energy policy - one storm wiping us out like this." Id love to find a deal like this...$2.39/gallon. As long as I didnt have to wait 3 hrs for it. Like Ive been saying all along...there ARE many alternatives to gas engines, and they are not being used. Cars can even run on water. These ideas have been 'suppressed' to keep up the demand for oil. It is pretty evident that the supply is meager to begin with as demonstrated by the results of the hurricane. There are vast supplies of domestic oil not being tapped in to as reliance on OPEC oil remains at an all time high. Now that the reliance is even greater, OPEC will be raking it in. My suggestion: get a hybrid vehicle if you can afford it, you pay more but with the oil economy being as unstable and venerable as it is it will be a payoff in the longrun. FYI - the auto industry, car sales, right now is suffering losses as (prior to the hurricane) they are presently unable to unload '05 vehicles to make way for the fleet of incomming '06 vehicles. The sales crunch is going to be magnified in future months because of the damage done to oil reserves...the popular SUVs are going to get extremely unpopular while people want gas effecient vehicles to stay prepared for future disasters. Things are becomming more and more favorable for buyers and should continue to do so in the upcomming months as the car sales industry reaches the point of desperation. To put it bluntly, if youre going to change vehicles, do it while you got them by the balls...not the other way around.

Get a skateboard. Think Im being funny? I used to park my car at one end of downtown and skate to the other end where I was staying. Was a lot quicker than walking.

Joe may be making a living off disasters, but keep in mind, he isnt the one that caused them. They happen, and when they do, he makes his living off of it. Now, if he had something to do with causing one, then Id say he is greedy and selfish. Otherwise Id just say he makes a living out of unfortunate circumstances that are going to happen anyway. Even if Joe is the kind of person that cant wait for the next disaster...Id say thats great, because when one happens help will be on the way. Thats the way Id want it.

And the magic mushrooms...

Yea, its just too expwnsive to do things like prepare for disasters or fund disaster relief funds when there is a war in Iraq to tend to. We Americans are just so busy thinking of ourselves.

You say it like its a bad thing. Greed is the basis of the market economy. Greed is what separates capitalism from socialism. Greed is often (but not always) what makes capitalism and market economies work. _Am How about 'competition'? Competition is the basis of the market economy. Competition is what separates capitalism from socialism. Competition is often (but not always) what makes capitalism and market economies work. You sound like Gordon Gecco...

They havent been domestic drilling since the '70s/ early '80s. This was due to cheaper prices from the middle east...it costs a lot more to drill for oil in Texas than it did to ship it over from middle east The oil boom back in the 70s/ early 80s was due to tariff protections that were in place that kept middle east oil from competing with domestic drilling operations, however, Reagan removed the tariffs on imported oil, which immediately put everyone out of business. This is the reason why Texas was hit by a big recession, but this also marked the beginning of the "Recession Age" we know today. The removal of oil tariffs was a political move pulled by the Repulbicans as a quick (but not lasting) remedy to cheap oil prices. It was basically a political stunt to make them look better, however, it also caused dependancy on middle east oil.

Well if youre real bored...let me explain to you what handcuffs can be used for....

Your point: prices depend on futures, futures depend on supply

Just like the 70s....when they came out with the Trans-AM 4.6L/ 5.8L engines....yep, just like the 70s. Just 'unlike' the 70s, be careful when you discredit 4 cyl, these are not the same as they were in the 70s. 4 cyl cars now are relatively quick...factor in change in techology.

Good advice. It happened to me. He needs to clear this up, before it causes worse problems. I had a problem once where I received a ticket, and the cop wrote on the back to send in $50 to pay for it. So I did. And forgot about it. Then about a year later I got pulled over again, and the cop said I had an outstanding unpaid ticket, confiscated my license, and would have arrested me, except for the fact that I had a carload of kids on a fishing trip. It turns out, the fine for the first ticket was actually $75, so the cop told me the wrong amount. The computer still showed it as outstanding, since I had paid only $50. They never bothered to tell me I owed more money. That was like a time bomb just waiting to put me in jail, for the next time I got pulled over. Pay those tickets off, and get written verification of it. Somebody just told me in California they will get transferred over to the new car, so they can tow that car on a parking violation.

He hasnt done that because he thinks youre nice and he is serious about you, as in he is hoping for a relationship with you, not a one night stand. He is basically not making any moves on you out of respect.
-
Someone told me they put in on your credit report, my guess is its probably there. The only warnings Ive ever gotten were from LA saying if my car were ever found in LA they are going to tow it. What I have to wonder about is if they run the new plates on the car, the info would ofcourse go back to me and the tickets might show up. If that happened I *guess* they would tow the new car. I dont know. Anyone in California know about this?
-
Yup. I also find it odd that he bought a new, 05 Sunbird. Sunbird? Anyone else catch that? I dont know anything about any bench warrant, they usually hold up your registration if you have parking tickets. They dont issue warrants over parking tickets, but they will tow your car if you have five outstanding, youre in a public parking spot, and you get another. For some reason they never held up registraton on the old car. The old car was out of state when I started the registration process, maybe that had something to do with it. Sunfire.....my mistake.

You can sue for anything whether or not there is a waiver. Sueing means filing a lawsuit against another party, whether you win it or not is another story. After signing a waiver any lawsuit like that would hold no ground. The kind of lawsuits at dropzones that would hold ground is if someone intentionally sabotaged someones rig, which would also be a criminal offense. Like what happened in the UK.

I owed 4500 on a V-8 T-Bird I was backwards on, and the repair bills It needed a brake booster because the one went out (making it hard as hell to stop the car), the idle was all over the place, front two tires were completely worn out (scary as hell). Well, my problems are...yes thats right folks....OVER!!! i refinanced what I owed on a new Pontiac Sunbird 05, the finance company let me pay it off at 2K instead of 4500, which I refinanced with the new car, and the payments are pretty decent. Oh yea, my old car has 5 parking tickets which they tow you for here if you get another, and I have two expensive ones in LA. But....and I say...BUT, I now have a new registration on a new car, so they can KISS MY ASS!!!!
