  1. *** If you look at your slowest vertical speed of 47mph, what kind of vertical speeds do tracking skydivers get as a comparison to birdsuits? Do you jump into the wind or away from the wind for the longest flights? Thanks.
  2. Do you mean that birdsuit flying is somewhat static in flight as compared to the other disciplines? You assume a position and maintain it througout flight as compared to freeflyers who enjoy the dynamic nature of flying up down, left right...? Can you compare and contrast a typical birdsuit flight to the other disciplines? Thankyou.
  3. Re my initial posting on this thread: I am only looking for estimates and am just throwing out numbers for simplicity. My question should be, is wingsuit flying so different, so interesting...compared to the other disciplines, that if all jumpers tried it enough to get a feel for it, would they want to continue wingsuit flying only or are the other disicplines of skydiving similar in fun? Would many jumpers find wingsuit flying boring or repetitive and the other disciplines more exciting, challenging...? I am just trying to get a feel for the nature of wingsuit flying and it's relationship to the other disciplines. Thankyou.
  4. One quick question re wingsuits. If all jumpers were offered 10 free wingsuit jumps, 1. what percentage of them would agree that winguit flying is the best when compared to all disciplines 2. and why?
  5. Wondering if anyone has ever flown or seen a Skyray flown? How does a Skyray fly compare to a wingsuit? Any comments on this solid wing device? Do you know of websites with video or photos re the Skyray? Here are some links for pictures, and thanks for your responses. http://www.freesky.de/Other/SKYRAY5.jpg http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.09/wing.html Here is a video link of the skyray. http://www.freesky.de/movpics.html
  6. I was wondering if anyone would like to post a computer generated view comparing an intermediate to advanced tracking skydivers flight versus an intermediate to advanced wing suit flyer so a ground person can compare and contrast their trajectories, speeds, fall rate etc and have a better understanding of this new concept. Thanks.
  7. What is the best part of Wing Suit Flying? Help me understand please. I have done a tandem but never flown a wing suit and may never so this is new to me. Is the thrill tracking, or turning left to right, or rolling left to right, or trying to keep up with the speedsters, or tracking slow then tracking fast or what? Please explain so I have a better understanding. What is the funnest or best part of wing suit flying? Thanks
  8. I found this in one of the past posts and I think it answers some of the questions re flight. "Wingsuit flight is a lot like making a Space Shuttle approach. You can go left and right and down more steeply, but you can't ever decrease (flatten)the angle of you approach beyond the optimum."
  9. How much control does the flyer have to gain or loose altitude? How long would it take for him to change his flight path? What are his approx forward and downward speeds? Please add anything relative. Thanks.
  10. I found this on www.flybirdman.com and would like to know how many wingsuit flyers would try this at these low altitudes? How close does he come to the snow at the lowest point when he passes the people on skis? Looks like 50-100 feet or so. How much control does the flyer have if he is off a few feet or so? Can he easily create more lift if he is low or is he doomed if he miscalculates or hits some cold/warm air pockets? How much control does he have moving left or right, up or down? Would somebody make a few comments on this type of swooping maneuver? Here is the link to the video. http://www.flybirdman.com/videos/loic.mov Does anyone know of other free videos like this that show the limits that people are pushing?
  11. I've read some of the posts on this board and have a basic understanding of wingsuit flying, have been to www.bird-man.com but I have more questions if anyone would like to address them. Feel free to compare or contrast RW, FF and WS flying as a comparison, and add whatever you feel is required for clarity. 1. If a skydiver falls at 120mph, how fast do the freeflyers fall and how fast does a wingsuit flyer fall? 2. How fast can a skydiver track compared to a wingsuit in mph? 3. If skydivers have 60 seconds of freefall from 12,500 to 3,000 ft, how long can wingsuit flyers free fall? 4. Does a wingsuit have to track in order to slow freefall times or can they just fall straight down like RW flyers? 5. Is the thrill tracking or falling straight down in wingsuit flying? 6. What are the best websites for data, videos, pictures etc for wingsuit flying? 7. Where is the sport of wingsuit flying going in? Bigger wings, hard wing surfaces...? Did wings begin with the camera flyers and evolve into sport flyers? 8. How safe or dangerous is it compared to RW, FF etc? 9. Has wingsuits dramtically altered base jumping? Can WS jumpers jump from areas that skydivers couldn't...? Thanks and please include anything you think is important that I have failed to mention.
  12. That link will be the "NEW" tunnel that is being planned for the San Jose area. Any Sacramento jumpers who would know if there is a tunnel in Sacramento. The person whom I spoke to convinced me he had jumped in a tunnel, and I questioned him in detail about the facility so he had convinced me that is is real.
  13. I heard from a person who said he went to a vertical wind tunnel in Sacramento, CA. Is there a wind tunnel there and do you know it's website address? Thankyou
  14. I find it hard to believe that someone could go over Niagra Falls and survive because of the rocks under the falls. This guy does it and lives. Maybe he has created the new "Extreme Sport" http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=573&ncid=757&e=5&u=/nm/20031022/od_nm/odd_canada_niagara_dc
  15. What should I do with the brake lines? Can I control the trim of the canopy once I get it airborne? I tried to fly it today, but the winds were only 2-3mph and I didn't feel like running the canopy. Maybe a 5-10mph day will be better?
  16. I really would like to see what is happening in the sport and this would be an excellent idea for showing such photos.
  17. I want to try to fly this canopy like a kite and would like to know how to hook these risers to the lines from the canopy. Could anyone either tell me how to do it or recommend a website that would tell me how to do it. The canopy is a Falcon 265. Here are pictures of the risers and the canopy lines. Thanks for the help. http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/bravestdog/lst?.dir=/Parachute/Falcon+265+Parachute&.src=ph&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/
  18. The canopy is a Falcon 265. How does a person hold it? Can you give me any details?
  19. Wondering how a square canopy with lines attached can be used? It's a Falcon 265 model. Can anyone give me some suggestions besides car cover, ceiling cover... I'm thinking more dynamic stuff like a giant kite etc. Can a square canopy be flown like a giant kite? What type of wind speeds do you need? How does one hold it? A text description or website would be helpful. Thanks.
  20. I have no idea how many jumps are on the canopy. I know the lines are attached and it appears that it is in good cond.
  21. I have a used Falcon 265, dated Sept 1992. It appears to be complete, canopy, lines...no container. Can anyone tell me what the resale value is or if jumpers would use it? Thanks
  22. I have an military extraction chute and would like to know the size of it.... Can anyone tell me what this was used for, how big it is...??? here is the link to the picture http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/bc/bravestdog/vwp?.dir=/Parachute&.src=ph&.dnm=Parachute+Extraction.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3a//f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/bc/bravestdog/lst%3f%26.dir=/Parachute%26.src=ph%26.view=t Thanks fmfelker@yahoo.com 510 523-5031
  23. I have a gray square military parachute and am wondering if anyone can tell me who makes it, what size in feet...ie 10x20...and who uses the canopies... thanks
  24. Why do people wear the new wingsuits, the really big ones, not the photographer versions...? What do they do? Slow you down in freefall? How slow can you go with a suit? Give you super ground speed tracking abilities...? How fast compared to a regular jumpsuit? What purpose do they serve and why are they used? Fill me in with the details please. Thanks all.
