  3. oo, I know. There is a train I took a couple times up to the mountains. It starts on the coast, and heads up. Can't remember the name of the town we caught it in. It ends up a couple hours south of Quito. Regardless. They don't mind if you ride on the roof of the box car. Steam locomotive, tunnels and the works. It derailed 3 times on one of our trips. There is one point where the train goes up what is called the Devils Nose (Nariz del Diablo) It goes forward, hits a switchback, then backs up. Does that a couple times. You are basically going up a cliff. It would almost be steep enough to jump from the train at one of the switch backs. Probably not, but it is worth a look.Course you would have to walk back, but it would be worth it. Regardless, fun trip. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  4. Evening magazine, news show, Channel 5 in Seattle, I think, was out at Kapow yesterday. The did a piece on Swooping. It was a blast, a lot of pond swoop shots, camera man is a ballsy dude too. I draped him with my canopy, and he didn't flinch. He also went up in the 182 to get some exit shots. Hanging out the door with huge camera. It was mostly, Andy, Keri, Luke, Layne and me. The way it sorta seemed is it will turn into and Andy Farrington show, but whatever. The anouncer guy was having a blast, and real positive towards us. Although he thought we were all gonna bash the ground. He got used to it though. Look for it May 19th or something www.eveningmagazine.com Much fun... ---------------------------- bzzzz
  5. Do you think that diamond is too wide for Tandem? ---------------------------- bzzzz
  6. ah hell. too much time 2. Defining Avatars The use of the term avatar to represent the self or user in the context of shared on-line Internet environments first occurs in the early 1980's with the development of LucasFilms's Habitat project (Morningstar and Farmer 275). The term came to popular consciousness with the success of the novel SnowCrash (Stephenson). Discussions of the nature of the avatar are often mixed with current cyborg theory. Although the avatar and the cyborg share numerous social constructions and identity politics, in the interest of developing an understanding of the avatar, it is necessary to distinguish it from its cousin, the cyborg. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  7. Couldn't help posting this on Avatar There is a book from the mid 80's called -Snowcrash. Awesome Si-Fi. Way ahead of it's time, in that what he saw then is now. Avatars where your virtual presentation of yourself in a Virtual Reality world that is like an internet city today where you logged on, and lived your life on line. Lived in a house, in a city and interacted with other people, in the form of their Avatar. They have site's like that today. Not that anybody cares, but that has to be where the term came from, at least as how it is used today. Cool book, if you can find the time. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  8. Sony has a .5 that is 30mm, but a step ring is no big deal either. I step my Kenko, and it is fine ---------------------------- bzzzz
  9. I use both hands, mostly, but do some stuff only left. Guns and pool for some. I am left eye dominant. Thing I would say, you don't want to have to squint to do video, you need to be able to keep both eyes comfortably open. If you use your non dominant eye for the sight, that may be tough. If you can do it, then go ahead and use the nondominant. No big. Me, I set up the site on the left. nother benefit of the site on the left, it is hooked to the cam bracket. That way, it also moves when I change cam position. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  10. I did try to minimize snags, actually a big part of the "design". I could have molded to the helmet, but having it movable was important to me. The straps on the back will keep most of the stuff out from under the bracket. Foam isn't all it is cracked up to be, too flexible. Hard points are where it is at. The gap itself isn't a big deal, as long as I keep stuff from entering it. I will reduce the size of the camera mount screw. Regardless, was fun, and we will see how it goes. Proper deployment is the biggest part of snag prevention. Course, any deployment is sometimes the only deployment that is possible. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  11. oh yeah, If I want to take it off, 2 9/16 wrenches from the outside of the helmet do the trick in a minute. Leaves the Carrier plate on, but it is low profile enough not to be a pain. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  12. Figured I'd post my new camera set-up. It seems the thing to do. Almost done. PC-101. Kenko .42. Mounted an a home built, caged aluminum "L" bracked. Bent, and rivets for strength and protection. Bolted to a carrier disc with one 3/8's bolt, with nylock nut, and 3 fender washers between for spaceing and friction. I am going to try that at first, without any sort of locking mech. I can crank it down so it barely turns. But still, it can be twisted, if I want to change camera angle, or I get kicked real hard. This sits on an aluminum disc that is bolted with stainless steel to the helmet in a tripod arrangement. The whole mount can rotate through 360 degrees. For back shots, tracking, whatever. I can also mount the camera upside down, for right side up shots in Headdown. Aluminum straps in the back are not structural, just for riser protection. Smooth edges around. Can also open the screen while it is mounted. I will add some strap or foam that I can band or strap over the screen and mic in freefall. Charge jack and firewire also accessable. A little more Dremel time, and the video out can be too. Any suggestions? I would like to thank Boeing Surplus, my local hardware store and my garage full of junk. NEXT: I have all the parts for a fibre optic site. Should be cool. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  13. ok, 7 is good. You seem to like the orange. /But it fits. I agree With Bruce Wayne, or whatever his name is, at least you want an Infinity. As far as the green pieces of paper, just buy more guns. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  14. I've had one Mal in mine in about 3,000. But I blame the primer. It was a Wolf bullet, I pulled the trigger twice more, and it fired. I call it a bad primer. As far as against a 1911. My buddy, combat Vietnam vet that "retired" from that war with an AK round to the face calls my pistol "Hoser". Because the cops "hose" people down with them. Shot placement is kind more important with a 9. Even the military, sure they use hi cap mags, but SOP is two to the chest, one to the head. Turns it into a five target pistol. Funny, but his wife liked my CZ better, so he bought her one ---------------------------- bzzzz
  15. You call a Tupperware pistol a real weapon? CZ75, never mal's never breaks, accurate. The Czhec folks took the best parts of the 1911 and made a sweet 9. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  16. Funny, I am the only one that voted for 3 It is kinda cool, not conventional. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  17. I once had a guy at Perris backtracking under me. He was a camera flyer, so he was lower. Problem is, I would turn to avoid being over him, he would turn to avoid me, and he just kept staying under me. Kind of like when you walk into somebody at the grocery store, that is walking right toward you, looking at you and and trying to avoid you. The low guy has the right of way. If he had just payed attention to what was below him, I would have turned, and gotten out of his way. As it was, there was confusion. I don't like the whole back track thing. But that's me. What are you gonna do, not pull if someone won't get out from above you? Nah, look down, pull at an appropriate altitude. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  18. That's funny. Me too. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  19. How have you tested it? Maybe it would fire into my notebook. Bring it when you show up out there. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  20. My new pc101 happily captures onto the mem stick while the video is running. Can't say much for image qual, compared to a dig. cam though. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  21. Fine, maybe only 3 saved unconscious skydivers in 12 years. Anna is one, who are the other two? If it wasn't for a cypress. She would be very dead. I am very glad she is not, because she is cool, and without it, I wouldn't have met her. What about the 3 dead skydivers at the South pole? The made a very nice formation correct crater in the snow. Should have been a four way crater, but the 4th was dumb enough to wear an AAD. Now who is the 1 person saved, that I don't know about? I think you are a bit off on your stats. Find the real number before you post as fact. How many have been irrefutabley killed be a cypress? And I don't mean the other AADs. Sure CReW or some stuff, don't wear it, but in general. We had dual cypress fires the other day. I suppose I could have posted it in the incident forum, but didn't. For reasons you might be able to figure out, if you know my DZ A mother went after her low jump number son who lost alt aware. They both fired. She wouldn't have pulled, it was her son. Flame if you like, but that is the choice she made. If you think about it. It fires at 800 feet. That is about 5 seconds from impact. It takes 3 to open, you are saddled in a reserve at 450, at best. That means, your are no more than 2 or 3 seconds from dead, when it fires. I don't get involved in cypress debates, usually, but get clue. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  22. Oh yeah. Prior to that majoer pounding into the water, he had never bashed hard. In thousands of jumps. Just goes to show, it will happen eventually. More than likely. Course now, he has good crashes all the time. Not really, but he did lose his cherry. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  23. You saw that video? Cool. I didn't know he showed it around that much. In Andy F's, you can actually see the canopy "break" or enter the stall. It was flying then it just kind of all of the sudden increased it's angle of attack and dumped him down. Sort of, hard to describe. Good thing it was in water. Pretty wild seeing a shoe "bounce" 50 feet, off water. This the other Andy vid her, you don't see the canopy do that, so much. regardless. Scary, and he was way too deep. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  24. Weekend Heck, I pretty much spent the whole summer their two years ago. Monday's too. You never know, if it is a blue ski day, I have been on the Otter many times. They will ususlly fire it up, if there are a couple folks that want to do a tandem. I painted the dz that summer too, I was always getting alltitude on "closed" days. Man, that paint job took a LONG time. As far as Whiby NAS, I am going to be living 20 miles from it, so carpool with me. Or, Get me one of their planes, and I will fly. Serious. ---------------------------- bzzzz

    ???? Jumping

i don't know where this thread went. But oh well. If you want to BASE. Quite crying about it being such a clique. It is. So what. Reason being is the guys that do it, and are true to it, don't want to influence anybody into doing it. They know what they are doing, and the risks. At Kapow, 2 years ago, Only One guy had a couple BASE jumps. Now there is 20 or more. But when the first ones where breaking into it, the guys from up North that are bad ass BASE jumpers and have opened most everything here, wouldn't hardly talk to them. They seemed cliquey. But who cares. They were awesome in that they wouldn't encourage anybody to take it up. If they saw somebody that shouldn't do it, they are plane asses. That is a good thing. The ones that really wanted to, forced their way into the club, then, they were helped Tremendously by the ones that seemed cliquey. Now, they will give all the advice they can. It is great they act a bit elitest at first. For crying out loud, you are jumping off a rock, with one parachute. Not normal in any context. ---------------------------- bzzzz
