200 USA/500 uk jumps to fly birdman ????
tattoojeff replied to MrPeabody's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
so what does "recomended" mean. i take it as exactly that, its recomended but theres really nothing the uspa can do to stop you? or is there? -
im sorry i dont see a problem. we all wish we could jump more, it seems like a contidiction that you want to do all these things in the sport that you claim to love but are thinking of walking away from it. i dont understand. if you work 6 days a week then work less and jump more or take skydive vacations every few months and jump your ass off its the only way your going to meet your goals is to jump more. so find a way and do it, but dont quit that accomplishes nothing.

pd has top notch customer service. its one reason they have such loyal customers.

i cant beleive your saying stand up landing isnt a apprpriate gauge to flying your canopy. its completly relevant! although its not everything it shows alot about that jumpers knowledge of there canopy and flying. so what dz are you jumping at that has "plenty of pilots that have to plf every jump" in 3 years ive seen one person, pat works have to do this and that was due to ankl;e surgery and was temporary.just because they cant stand up landings due to injury doesnt mean they dont have the ability to. not to be rude but your showing your inexpierence saying things like this
-
damn dude your flying that good with less than 1000 jumps... i quit!!! lol

Dumbest thing you did skydiving
tattoojeff replied to cocheese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
forgot to un-collapse my slider, ouch!!!!!! -
i looked in the frequently asked q's but couldnt find an answer to my q's. when posting a reply how do you get that "in reply to" box with the quote from the person your answering. this has eluded me for months but never wanted to ask cuz its probably real easy and will show my ineptness with a computer. thanks jeff

that sounds way fucked up and typical dz political bullshit with a side of egos. yes i believe my dz is in need of a pilot. we have caravans and otters. email me for more info if your serious. jeff

not to pick on your poll but canopy size isnt too relevant. i cant vote on anything but your last option cuz its the only one with a w/l. however i would put a newbie up to a 1.2 w/l if he had consistant stand up landings since student status and was a healthy heads up skydiver. it also depends on the canopy choice ie eliptical vs semi elip or square. blues j

yes i was kidding about bankruptcy. lol

your a student they give out credit cards like candy to you folks. get one with a huge limit go threw aff, buy all new gear and a block of jump tickets..... then let it got to collections and file bankruptcy. your young its only on your record for 7 years. .................. or do what i did put it on the back burner till you can afford it. if skydiving is truly in your heart it wont leave you it cant cuz its part of you. i did a tandem in 1990. always knowing i would return to the sky. 2002 went through the student program in 3 weeks and did 600plus jumps since.

im getting a little confused. ill try to clearify. i was relating a similar situation at my dz to yours. thats who i was refering to when i replied to skymonkey. as far as the jumper youve posted about i just wanted to get some background on his expierience as a performance pilot and how drastic of a downsize he made buying his x-braced. im not in the posistion to say if hes competent or not since ive never seen him fly a canopy. however i would bet all my money he is NOT! theres nothing he can learn under a x-braced sub 100 that he couldnt have learned under a more forgiving canopy. i pray he doesnt have to learn this the hard way. watching someone hook it in is one of the most horribly violent things ive ever seen and i hope i never have to see it again.

It's just my wild guess, but I bet you that dude bought the canopy online in the off season and just showed up at whatever dz you were at to avoid problems with people who know better at another DZ. With 400 jumps that guy has no business whatsoever under that main. actualy skymonkey no. he jumped it for over a year at his original dz before he came to us. im not sure why nobody stopped him i waqsnt there.
-
ian could you please answer my questions from my earlier post about this jumpers background. thanks
-
the idea came from many places the most recent was last night looking through the saftey archives. a jumper succesfully pulled his pin during a pc in tow due to the bridle tangled the pc. it worked for him but i saw it more as a lesson on what not to do for many reasons including the good feed back from all whom responded to my q's. ive also heard jumpers claim this is what they would do to avoid the main coming out after the reserve is fired which is common. although this makes sense i feel it puts you at more risk than simply firing the reserve. thanks for the feed back
-
if you had an un-inflated pc in tow and reached back and pulled the pin by hand is there a chance the force wouldnt be enough to open the riser covers. if so that could be an unchoppable ball of shit if theres not enough pull by the failing pc to extract the main from the bag.

just out of curiosity, how safe and dialed were his swoops on his previous canopy? also what was he flying before? ijm in no way defendiong him, im just trying to get an idea how bad his situation is. we have a jumper that bought a velocity sub 100 with under 200 hundred jumps. beleive it or not years later he still has the same canopy and is an awsome swooper and hasnt been hurt besides some bumps and bruises !!!!! this is NOT THE NORM but did happen. p.s. he was not jumping at my dz when he bought it.

whats up doug, i do check my email every single day! there must be tech problem with the email cuz ive recieved nada. anyway im glad to hear about our new saftey saturdays its a great idea however saftey day has always had a good turn out in the past so i have to disagree with you that its too early in the season. also not everyone has a computer and to be honest everyone ive asked at sdo about saftey day couldnt give me an answer cuz they didnt know whats up either. sorry if i sounded aggresive but i felt saftey day was getting put on the back burner and no one seemed to care. i know you do, and are extremy busy wch is why i wanted to help out. i still do. im just trying to give back. im going to PM you about some other stuff i dont wish to post. see ya tommorow brother jeff

actualy i prepared a lecture on proper separation. it took me many hours to write and research. i submitted my paper to our s&ta who said i did a good job but there werent any plans to have a saftey day. im a little bitter because i feel many of our jumpers dont know about groundspeed and how upper winds affect opening separation, sad as that is. our dz uses the 45 degree method wich i feel is not the best way.
