Just make sure that Vector 2 is freefly-friendly! The older ones had lots of velcro on riser covers and pin protectors... not good for the extra speeds of freefly! Have fun and be safe!

Tom & Jerry cartoons (the OLD ones from MGM, not that 60's CRAP from Hanna Barberra) Looney Tunes (again, the CLASSICS!!) Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets) Japanese show with the characters in Bird suits and their ship the Phoenix.

hi. thinking about diving... tandem or..?
freeflyfrog replied to chumps's topic in Introductions and Greets
Hi Chumps, I am a tandem instructor, so I am a bit biased, but I think that a tandem is an excellent way to make your first jump! Most drop zones these days offer a tandem progression program that incorporates two or three tandem jumps into an AFF-style program, after which you move on to single-jumpmaster AFF dives. A tandem is an excellent introduction to the thrill and sensory overload of a freefall, without the necessity of going through a long class beforehand or the fear of forgetting the many points that you have learned in that class. There is plenty of time to go through the class and learn to become a skydiver after your first jump if you decide you really like it... no need to rush it! Whatever you decide, have fun with it! -
Yeah... he's my hero, too. And that girl MUST have been a stripper because she made at least three naked jumps that day and made little effort to cover herself on the way to the plane. My favorite quote of the day was from a ten-year old boy at the DZ: "That girl MOONED me!!!" Lucky kid... I didn't see anything like that until I was in college!

How many jumps have you made without a malfunction?
freeflyfrog replied to Skymonkey13's topic in The Bonfire
Before the first malfunction: almost 2500 jumps. Total mals in 3500 jumps: 3 (1 spinning Stiletto, 2 tandem mals) -
I'm sure it was a free jump for the young woman...

I was on a load in , Colorado with a tandem pair that started in the plane, tried some penetration in droguefall, opened early and did some more under canopy and then landed way out to finish the job. The instructor described it as physically challenging...

my tattoo...finally got a digital picture of it!
freeflyfrog replied to lizzieb's topic in The Bonfire
Wow... kudos on an elegant design and the perfect placement! I LOVE small-of-the-back tattoos on the ladies! -
It's really not that bad! You know where to find me!

Yeah... with a Mac you learn that there really IS such a thing as "Plug-and-Play"... as contrasted with the "Plug-and Pray" that PC users deal with.
-
Once you come over to the Dark Side, you will NEVER want to use a PC again! And I'd be happy to help you with any problems you might have transitioning to the Mac.
-
You obviously have never seen any of those people that literally play games for a living! Sure I have... they're the pale, twitchy, sunken-eyed folk with their thumbs in slings!
-
And if you're a "serious gamer" you really need to lighten up a bit!

Yeah... what HE said, too!

Yeah... what he said! I have NEVER had a virus problem and when my Mac starts up, out of the box, I KNOW it will do exactly what it is supposed to do. And you are part of something. Part of the minority that doesn't believe the MHz hype and that demands a simple yet elegant computer that is as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. I love my roommate's Powerbook... I brought her over to the Dark Side!

Wow. 26 whole days without a restart. That's amazing. I can't even remember the last time I had to restart my Mac running OSX. Well, BASE813, we could debate for hours, but I guess the thing to consider is what system you are most comfortable with and what will allow you to be the most productive. Good luck, whatever you decide! And if you DO go with the Mac and have any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll see if I can help you out!

Unless you have a LOT of Windows-only software that you MUST continue to use, why wouldn't you switch? The Mac is a better machine: hardware, operating system and a ton of great software all designed from the ground up to function flawlessly together (unlike the typical PC which is a mish-mash of components from a hundred different manufacturers). I think you will find the transition is easier than you imagine, especially if you will use OSX, which has a very Windows-like file finder interface. Also, OSX machines now blend seamlessly with Windows environments, so you can still run your machine in a Windows network without any trouble. WARNING: I am NOt a tech guru, just a Mac fanatic... your experience may differ significantly from what i described.

Tandem Instructor Poll: Instructor Helmets
freeflyfrog replied to slotperfect's topic in Instructors
Nvertigo freefly helmet. Among other things mentioned elsewhere in this thread, it really cuts down on the NOISE in the plane and the freefall. Be good to your ears, guys. All that engine noise and freefall blast WILL damage your hearing over time. I have noticed a difference in my hearing since i first started jumping 11 years ago (and it's not ALL from old age! -
Tandem Instructor Poll: Instructor Jumpsuits
freeflyfrog replied to slotperfect's topic in Instructors
Me too... Merlin pants and (on all but the hottest days) a lightweight long-sleeve shirt. At the end of the season, I'll switch to my baggy freefly suit for warmth. I have about 800 tandems. -
Nope... that's not Jen...

Me and a full load of static line students in a Cessna... engine quits at maybe 300 feet (we haven't even cleared the runway yet). Pilot managed to keep the airspeed up and put the plane down in one piece at the very end of the runway... too low to turn... we actually went off the end of the paved runway and collapsed the nose gear. I have never been more scared in a plane before or since. I hardly had time to tell my students to assume a crash position. We all owe our lives to that pilot!

Not to worry... I'm furiously downloading here at work!

Undertaker: "There's three things we can do with your mum. We can burn her, bury her or dump her." Man: "DUMP her?!?!" U: "Yeah... dump her in the Thames." M: "WHAT?!?" U: "Oh... did you like your mother? We won't dump her then. So, what will it be? Burn her or bury her?" M: "I'm not sure... what would you reccommend?" U: "Oh, well they're both nasty. If we burn her, she gets stuffed in the flames... crackle crackle crackle... which is a bit of a shock if she's not quite dead... but quick. Then, when we're done, you get a box of ashes which you can pretend are hers. If we bury her, she gets eaten up by maggots and weevils... nibble nibble nibble... which as I said before is a bit of a shock if she's not quite dead." M: "Well, she's definitely dead" U: "Oh, have you got her with you?" M: "She's in this sack" U: "Let's 'ave a look. Oh... she was quite young. (turns to back of shop) Fred, get the oven on! We've got an eater!" M: "WHAT?!?! Are you proposing that we EAT my mother?!?" U: "Ummm.. yeah. Not raw... not raw. She'd be delicious with some french fries and a bit of broccoli... DELICIOUS." M: "Well... I don't know..." U: "Look, tell you what. We'll eat your mother, then if you feel guilty afterwards, we'll dig a grave and you can throw up into it!" M: "Allright then!" (Studio audience rises out of their chairs in anger and disgust and chase the players off the stage) Python is the best!
