Had one for about a year - although I ordered slim fir it was still to baggy for my taste, so I got it altered at my tailor... Lasted for one year then the seams on the legs blew apart :-( Never got used how they worked the cuffs and the ankles - triple velcro makes that part of the suit extremely stiff. don't know about the other option (slip through). Bought it because it was cheap, but wouldn't buy another one

That vid reminds me of a recurrency-jump some years down the road with an I/E in front going fetal and giving heavy input with legs resulting in a good spin - no chance to get a grip to his legs. good thing back then was being "dressed for success" wearing baggy suit with lots of fabric & drag so I could at least slow the damn thing down a bit I remember pulling high on that jump... no doubt about that from what I see the instructors rig is a new design (not sure what brand) and I assume it has good bridle/pin protection. moving around in the plane shouldn't be to much of a problem. my understanding - after watching the vid some more times - is, that either the closing loop broke or was to loose. and then it doesn't matter what kind of packing method you use for your pilot chute. maybe we have to agree that we disagree. great thread with great answers, laughed a lot cause I had to live through some of the things mentioned... my vital points would be • know your gear and know the systems strenghts and limits. also get to know the same stuff about the gear you are not trained to jump with! • don't be a brand/gear-snob - every tandem-systems has it's strengths, limits and "flaws" • know the decision-tree(s) by heart! • get your hands on strongs side-spin-cd/video. you can train how to get in and out of it on solo-skydives what you do have to learn on a personal level: as a TI you will end up as the workhorse of the DZ. meaning heavy rotations with no time to get a drink or take a leak, sweating and swearing silently, jumping in conditions you wouldn't want to go on non-working/solo skydives like high wind gusty conditions, industrial haze etc. probably the hardest lesson to learn: know, respect and stand (if need be: fight!) for your limits! it's your and your pax's life that's at stake if you think you can manage all that: go for it and have fun The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

the place I jump at, teachs tandem progression and students are thaught to pack from jump one - that means they pack the tandem after their first jump under supervision. so it's "you jump it - you pack it". if you can handle 360 sqft everything else gets as easy as pie

fixing and packing a tangled chute is a skill you have to know, if you want to pass the packing test. well at least in my little corner of the world. some years down the road, I think it was after the Lillo crash, I gave the scenario of emergency exits a deeper thought. my conclusion was: if there was a problem causing the plane the get into any sort of G-inducing maneuver, opening a door would become impossible – no matter what door I was thinking of. fabric roll door? lexan slide door (along the roof like often seen in caravans)? metal sliding doors like the LET's have them? push out doors like in smaller Cessnas? the ramp door of skyvans? all appeared - and I think in fact are - inoperable once you have to fight additional weight built up by g-forces... or even if you have an open door - imagine a diving skyvan with 20 jumpers getting moved towards the front and you are trying to move uphill so the line of defense - IMHO - is not how to open a door or get out of a plane that has stalled and is building up g-forces. it is preventing these situations from happening in the first place again IMHO I think that (to) many jumpers have no real clue how their actions on the way to alti and on jumprun affect the safety of the whole operation The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

I know you can get custom-custom-made containers which fit large reserves and small mains, usually these designs cost some extra dough and since jumpers are cheap everybody sticks with the 1:1 main-reservesize ratio. you may have noticed that Cypres made it possible for jumpers to offset the activation alti permanently and that is because there are documented "delays and hesitations" in reserve deployments based exactly on the things airtwardo wrote about, haven't you? one of the most vocal people about raising activation alti is the guy with the long beard who's selling one of the aforementioned gadgets everybody is so happy about.... strange coincidence, ain't it?
