  1. Back to the main subject here, with a Sony PC-105, for freeflying, it seems that a wide angle lens is a necessity. My question, which is the best wide angle lens? Please let me know your opinions for each one. 1) Royal Lens Diamond .3x 30mm, price $159 - I have been told that this has too much distortion, is that true? I have also been told that it is the best? Hmm? 2) Sony .45? 3) Kenko .43? 4) I heard that there is a lens from Japan named Titanium .45 that is suppose to be great? Anyone know anything about this? 5) Fyi, I have also heard that the best feature of the Royal Diamond .3x 30mm is the size, it´s little so you dont "stress" the camcorder optical system and ring adaptor isn't necessary. Kenko .43 is good because you can capture the footage with more light, and you have a little more brightnes and vivid colors and it is cheaper also. 6) Are there any other lens that I should consider? 7) Bottom line: what lens should I get?
  2. Make sure that if you ordered the RAWA, and you also want the Royal Diamond .3x 30mm wide angle lens, (you will need some wide angle lens for freeflying) that the RAWA cambox needs to be made especially for the Royal lens Diamond .3x 30mm - you will need to let RAWA know this so they can make the special cambox. Also, the Royal lens web site is: www.royal-lens.com and the price of the Diamond lens is $159. If you are getting the less expensive wide angle lens, either Kenko .43 or Sony .45, then the "normal" camboxes (the cambox that originally comes with the Rawa helmet) will be fine. Again, talk to RAWA. Just thought that I should let you know. Also see my posting under this FORUM, title: Sony-PC 105, What Lens is needed?
  3. SWEETNESS! I just got an email from Claudio at RAWA, they have to make me the cambox for the Royal lens DIAMOND 0.3x 30mm for Sony PC-105 because the cambox is different than the regular cambox for the Sony PC-105. Good point to know. Also, the STEALTH 0.5x 30mm and the DIAMOND 0.3x 30mm are the same exact sizes so they are interchangeable, I just confirmed this with the people at Royal lens. thanks! 4. There is PLENTY of stock available for the Sony PC-105 and plenty of good deals out there on the web, for example, about $705 TOTAL (including shipping, tax etc.) **Make sure to buy from a RELIABLE web source and even better a SONY authorized dealer. 1) One place to purchase is: 6th avenue.com http://www.6ave.com/product.jsp?x=DCRPC105&zipz=11001 2) To get a good list of competitive prices and who sells it on the web, go to the following website: http://www.zdnet.com/?tag=hdr (this website is an excellent source for research on consumer electronics and prices/reviews) Then click on: Reviews & Prices (on the top of the page) Then click on camcorders Then scroll down the page and click on SONY DCR-PC 105 (or do a serach for the camcorder) **Toward the top of the page, click on "Where to Buy" highlighted in red and a list of many web suppliers will appear. Place in your zip code and you can SORT BY PRICE. I suggest that you read the reviews and if the companies are reliable. You can also see that 6th avenue.com is listed here. Good luck!!! Blue Skies,
  5. I have just purchased a RAWA Imagem Double helmet and the Sony PC-105 camera. I mainly freefly, sit and every so often do relative work. I jump in Florida. I would like to know: 1) What lens should I buy? I have been told a wide angle lens such as the 30mm ROYAL Diamond .3x? Is this the best lens to have? 2) I assume this lens will fit 'flush' with the RAWA d-box? 3) Do I need any other type lens like a UV filter? 4) Where is the best place to buy any suggested lens? Any information on lens choice, exact use and place of purchase would be much appreciated. Thanks.
  6. I have the same question about using a silver D (low profile) versus a soft pad reserve handle. Currently, I have a regular size silver D and I am planning to replace it with a low profile silver D. See the forum below, there were many interesting points made both for the low profile silver D and also for the soft pillow reserve handle. This forum may have more information to help you make a decision. Good luck! See Forums: Skydiving: Safety and Training: Go to page 3 and Subject: Low profile Silver D VS. Soft Pad Reserve Handle or click: www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=718261;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  7. I have a Javelin Odyssey, Sabre2 135 loaded about 1.39 and have about 650 jumps. I mainly freefly, RW is secondary. I am thinking about replacing my large D silver reserve handle with EITHER a Low Profile Reserve Handle or a a reserve soft pad handle. I have heard of incidents that in a violent spinning malfunction that people had trouble reaching their reserve handle and was only able to get just a couple of fingers into the silver D Reserve Handle just to cut it away . . . knowing this, I would lean toward the Low Profile Reserve Handle. On the other hand, I also know that during a freefly or any jump for that matter, there is more risk associated with a Low Profile Reserve Handle versus a reserve soft pad handle because the Low Profile Reserve Handle is simply bigger with a different surface area that seems that it could get 'caught' more. I do jump w/ a cypress. Any opinions/experience on this? How are pulls with a soft pad? Thanks.
