  1. dont worry. I still get all messed up in x-winds. I had a bad one today. No worries though it takes time.
  2. I have been having trouble with cross wind landings and landings in general. I went up with the local instructor and worked on some things with him. One thing that stuck with me and helped out was not thinking that I was LANDING the plane. Think of it as flying the plane as low and slow as you can until it wont fly and you are right off the ground. It helped me out on both x-wind no wind and night landings. As for where I was landing wise pre solo I had 37 landings. Keep working at it. It is fun just remember that

    need advice

It all went well. Better than I had planned. I had hear many horror stories leading up to the flight. So I was way nervous, but it all exited the plane perfectly.

  5. you can also steal a lear jet or a cessna 150 and fly around in those.
  6. That story was in Pacific Flyer a couple of months age. I just love the reference to Paris Hilton's panties.

i belive there is only one s-2a model left in california, the rest are now all turbo props. the last time we had one of the round engine s-2s down in hemet the plane flew down here and was parked(i believe due to a malfuntioning mag in the number 2 engine). the only other time the plane flew was to go back home. there is nothing like the rounds that once powered the s-2s but for firefighting purposes i personally would not want to be with anything other than a turbo prop, unless it was a DC-4. the maint. dept for the s-2s is awesome. those planes are kept in perfect shape and the pilots flying them are fun to watch. there is a female tanker pilot who flies tanker 71 i believe which is based out of the Ramona airtanker base in Ramona CA

The S-2s are bad mofos. espscially the S-2Ts. which are S-2A models retrofitted with prat turbo props for CDF. Those are one solid airplane. Fast as well.
  9. oh she is still there? wow...must be nice to leave for a vaca whenever she wants. lucky punk
  10. anyone heard anything about sebastion. have not heard from my mom in a while wondering if she is ok.
  11. pennywise from the ashes and korn take a look in the mirror
  12. I was in the process of getting the so cal freq when he saw the plane. needless to say right after that i was on the radio, and as soon as we left Ramona's airspace I was on with socal again. I just feel dumb for jacking up on the cruise alt. but everyone is alive and even if I am not flying the plane my eyes will be scanning everything all the time. A scary learning expierience.
  13. So today I went flying......twice. Went up in the AM to practice some landings. That went fine. Nice and smooth, great landings, and had some fun. After that I went up with a friend of mine who I work with on Saturdays at the airport. We were going to Ramona airport to have lunch and just fly around. Preflight the plane, make sure everything is ok. But in that process I forgot to give us the correct cruise altitude(odd plus 500). Well we take off and head south. Things are going great for a good portion of the flight. I had my head down looking at the chart finding another place for us to go when all the sudden I am looking straight down and the ground and pinned to my seat. All the while he is screaming F*&K S*&T F*&K. All I can do is ask what the heck just happened. Needless to say we were on a head-on course for another plane at the same altitude. Hmmm...... Couldent figure out why he was at our altitude. What happened? Where did he or we go wrong?? After trying to stop my heart from coming out of my chest i begin to realize that I had screwed up in our cruise altitude. I sent us down at 4500 when it should have 3500 or 5500. Something I am usually extremely cautious about. How did I mess up on that. I got in a hurry, all I could think about was getting in the air again. I have always talked about how people who do dumb things shouldent be allowed fly. I am still thinking of how bad it could have been. 3 people could be dead, 2 of which are newly licensed pilots, young as well. I have decided that I am not going to fly unless I have checked double checked and even triple checked my plan and covered my ass in all directions. So a word of advice from this from me is that be sure everything is in line and you make time to plan things the right way before you start the engine.
  14. Dayum. Right on mom. That's awesome. Look out people here comes the bytch. Congrats again. David
  15. I have a question for all instrument rated pilots. How soon after getting your private did you begin inst. training?? I am looking at starting in the next month or two. What is your advice?? thanks David
  16. Diesels are starting to come into the hot rod scene. friend of mine who I work with has an '04 F-350 crew cab 4x4, 6.0 Liter Diesel. This thing comes with 300 horse stock. He put a chip, exhaust, shit kit, trans cooler, and injectors(just to name a few of the mods) in the truck and is putting out over 500 horses at the rear wheels. Now this truck is lifted and sits on 37in tires, but when he stands on it, it'll roast the rear tires and then pin your ass to the seat. That is fast.
  17. When I graduated in 2002 there was an increasing number of my fellow classmates who were hooked on hard drugs, not just weed. You could tell the difference from them before lunch break to after lunch break. It was alarming to see 16-18 year old kids hooked on assorted hard drugs. I have a friend who lives in an appartment complex where a 13 year old girl is smoking crack on a daily basis. How did she get the drugs??? If you guessed her parents you are correct. She is so hooked on it now that my friend is telling me stories of this little girl prostituting just to have the money to get high. What the hell are the "future" doing here?? Even people of my age group are falling victim to hard drugs, many who started at a younger age(high school). It is hard to see someone you went to school with walking down the street tripping out on some tweek. Its more than hard, it is disgusting. Im sure that there is more that the government could do to combat the hard drugs or violent drugs. Leave those who smoke the herb alone. That is not a violent drug. Ever seen someone stoned kill someone or rob another person....No. All that person wants is some food and to chill. But those who are whacked out on tweek or these new drugs that kill. That there my friend is another story. But to combat these hard drugs takes more than the government is truely able to do. It takes people with self disipline and confidence to refuse use. That is the only way to truely combat drugs.
  18. i used to ride. sold my quarter paint about 6 months ago. he was an awesome horse. would do anything i asked him to do and not complain about it. I remember taking him out in the hills to gather cattle, it was rocky and rugged terrain. he had no shoes on but just went through it like it was nothing. what a bad ass horse he was when i had him.
  19. Oh you found my shoe??? Cool. Now how do I get it back??? Yeah it was fun. Especially flying over the lake and seeing everyone look up at you as we are doing a nice 30 degree banked 360 over the east end. Oh yeah Mom....neeener neener neener By the way I didnt look pitifull I was just admiring his plane and was asked if I would like to go. I love the aviation community.
  20. If seniors need to be retested then I feel that people in my generation need to be retested as well. Look at how many 16-20 something year olds are involved in accidents...that should say something. Compare the two who has the most accidents per age range??? Maybe speed limits should be lowered so everyone has more time to react? Maybe this..maybe that. None of this is in effect. Should everyone be required to take a driving test bi-annually?? That might solve some things. We dont know and might not ever know. I dont feel that one generation should be treated in this manner without everyone having to deal with it. There are many good drivers who are seniors and there are some bad ones..but that applies to everyone. See my point??
  21. By Califronia State Law he is at fault. He took away someone elses right of way. This is true, admited by him and his wife. They never saw the guy on the bike. But I still do not believe that he needs to be taken away to jail for this. I do not know of them taking someone away for and accident where a person died, unless the one at fault was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Maybe the cops know something I do not know. But I still feel that it was excesive use of authority in the cops case tonight.
  22. So what your saying is that all seniors who commit a vehicle code offense should be arrested???? I think not. If that is the case then everyone who does it needs to be arrested and sent to jail to be booked in. I am not a senior citizen but I still feel that this is fu*&ed up. It was a damn accident, not a premeditated murder. I feel sorry for the ones who lost a son, husband possibly father, but I do not feel that the elderly gentleman needs to be put through this process. He is almost 90. I feel that there should be some sort of manditory driving test after a certain age but there is not. So lets not start arresting older folks who are not under the influence of any drug or alcohol and are involved in an accident unless everyone is going to get the same treatment.
  23. Awesome. The sirst solo is the greatest. I remeber mine. My mom was in the plane with me and the instructor. Did some touch and go's then taxied to the FBO they got out and away i went. Good times. Just wait till you do you solo cross country. That is awesome when you have to start putting all your navigation and pilotage skills in use. Its awesome. Congrats
