  1. hey these people out here in the midwest DO look twice at interracial couples. my sister and her ex-husband couldn't walk down the street in suburbia without some seriously hard looks. this is the same mentality that makes those polls so high. city folk (such as myself) tend not to be too worried about the idea of gay marriage, but to some people this is A CRISIS OF FAITH and a war against the "culture of sin". i love my midwest people but they can get so haughty about these types of things...
  2. i just did my first skydive at Freefall Express a few weeks ago at the HILLBILLY BOOGIE they throw every year and i loved it! i mean i'd never jumped out of a CASA before...which cost me a case of beer. 4. excellent! it wasn't too very long ago that when i'd hear "DOOR!" on the cessna i'd turn into a giant knot of anxiety. congratulations! You'll lose speed, but keep altitude. 5. I'm excited about all the feedback i'm getting on this post. thanks for your info. i believe that while i'm in Russia i'm now going to have to jump at least 2 DZs if not more. not that there is any problem with that. 6. i am actually a russian language student here in the US so i'm confindent that my skill with the language by next summer should be significant enough to get by at a smaller DZ. i'm thinking mostly cost, customs and distance as well as aircraft available. looks like you answered all of them with the inclusion of your photos. thanks. 7. has anyone here jumped in Russia? i'm considering a trip to Moscow next year and by then i'll be licensed with my own rig so i'd like to hear about anyone's experiences out there. 8. being a nerd of some caliber in my area, i am allowed to say this: i'm not about to fight a throng of nerds shushing me when i say wow every once in awhile because they are taking notes to post on their chat boards. i just won't do it. 9. the only pretence in this statement is my limited experience. because i'm praying for the day that i don't feel the butterfiles before i go up. everytime it's a near panic-moment. thank god for mediation. or whatever... 10. from my limited experience in all this it seems that the best strategem is to present yourself as a proper simpleton. because what do we know? that's right. very litlle. so listen and learn kiddo. from the kid who probably knows less than you.. 11. it seems to me that any place can be made a good bar so long as you are with the right people or the regulars are decent. in my experience the opposite is usually true as well in that a cool-looking bar can suck horribly without someone interesting to talk to... 12. so i take my first 10 second delay and all is well and fine. i'm doing great after having a few "issues" with the clear and pull section of my training. don't ask. so i'm starting to really get excited about this whole skydiving thing and guess what happens? i go and blow my appendix the very next day. i'll be out for 6 weeks. i could kill my body but that would be defeating the purpose. sorry to vent but i can't be the only one this has ever happened to. can i? scott You'll lose speed, but keep altitude. 13. actually the way most mountainous cell tower arrangements are made is that the antenna array is set up near the peak of the mountain and the footprint (range of communicability) is therefore the entirety of the mountain itself as well as much of the surrounding areas at lower altitudes. 14. ironically it was my general statement about american politics and the role of president as chief-liar that started them getting into specifics. You'll lose speed, but keep altitude. 15. it's fairly irrelevant. almost no president has written their speeches in the last 60 years, few presidents have had actual convictions that were their own without a marketability test done well in advance by a team of pollsters. the president's duty is no longer to lead the country, he has a team of experts for that on his cabinet. the president as a position of power in the United States is as nearly provincial as that of the Queen in England. his name goes on the papers but not without the expressed consent of his panel of experts. the president is now and will continue to be a position where quick thinking in interviews and popularity are far more important than long-term credibility or a grasp of the banalities of living. bush just isn't as suited to the job as clinton was. but both their expert panels have an agenda that is moving whether the president looks like a moron in the process or not. What is freedom?

i tend to think of freedom as a set of as few rules as necessary to provide the most options for living to the largest number of people. You'll lose speed, but keep altitude. 19. just to a spectator to a flag 11,000 sq ft flying would be incredible much less to control it. not that i'm even looking into something like that even in the near future. we'll leave that for you big boys. Skydiver?

yeesh. as much as i love debating the logic behind religion, i get bored quickly with people taking that stance. anyway. you kids are right. i mean i'm not gonna start telling people i'm this skydiver guy under the pretence that they don't have any idea how experienced i am. 8 jumps does not a professional make. but i think most labels, especially "skydiver" are only useful for buttressing a person's self esteem. the way i track it is to me and for me only the definition is licensed. hence, i don't personally consider myself a skydiver. yet. 22. so i used to be able to sit at my desk and quietly work away with my mind unhindered. but 3 weekends ago i decided that i should try to get my class A license, a plan i had hatched 2 years before when i took my first tandem dive. so 3 weekends ago i took my first static line. now i'm 8 dives into this. i used to be able to work...but now i can only think about the sky. i think i could be in trouble.
