  1. Don't know and the IN lawyer that contacted me has no idea either. The lawyer is asking around in the politico circles. Here is the timeline someone asked for. http://www.in.gov/legislative/2391.htm The attorney will write a sample letter for skydivers to send. Should be out sometime this week. USPA, aka Randy Ottinger, was notified before I made the OP. USPA is on top of this. They will probably also encourage IN jumpers to write their representatives. . . 3. Does the yoke thing side up & down and then you turn the cross-bar thingy to tighten in the radial direction? If so, it could be something to compress pack jobs in a banana-peel type bag. A banana-peel bag looks like a peeled banana when open. Then the sides (each peel) are laced together like shoe laces. You have to compress along the longitudinal axis and in the radial direction while packing. These types are bags are used in military or high speed applications and the bags are usually made of kevlar. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  4. Two years ago at SDA they had a pool, but teams could use their own photographer if they wanted. The thing is that you can only get video rejumps if you were using a pool photographer, not a dedicated one. IIRC, only one of the AF teams used a team photographer. Best bet is to check with Byran Burke or Kirk Knight to get the skinny on what they are doing this year. Also the comp is run out at the tunnel, so it would be logistically hard to do a team jump, then a fun jump (rinse-repeat) Does your camera record to tape or a memory stick? . . 6. Years ago the pipes burst from freezing in a house we lived in in NY. The house was on the market and we had moved to MI. The heating oil was not delivered and the pipes broke in the upstairs master bathroom. It destroyed the bathroom and the dining room on the first floor. But that was NY. Tallahassee ? That's much more like the climate I live in now. I turn off the heat at night, including the pilot light. When I leave for more than a weekend, the heat is off. The only thing left plugged in is the refridge. Everything else is unplugged. If he's in an apartment complex, chances are that the piping runs inside the common wall between the apartments. For FL, I wouldn't worry about it. If it was a place where the daytime temps did not rise above freezing for several days in a row, then I'd worry about it. . . 7. Well whatever the hocus pocus the AA is doing, there is some humor in this. Convo goes like this: AA: Don't let the door hit you on the way out. JC: It won't because I'm taking it with me. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  8. That appears to be a DZ run by Mark Hogue. He has had several DZs in AZ that appear and disappear every few years. The pictures on http://www.skydivephoenix.com/facilities.html are from the Coolidge Airport, not Estrella where the location page says he is now located. I do not believe the amenities list to be accurate for the Estrella location. Google map this addy 22548 N Sailport Way, Maricopa, AZ The picture on this page http://www.skydivephoenix.com/price-list.html is one of a leased Skydive Arizona porter that was used when he was over at Coolidge. The 'Arizona Skydiving Coolidge' has been photoshopped onto the picture. To check the validity of this statement "We regularly fly turbine airplanes including King Air's and Twin Otter's. " call Skydive Arizona and see if they are leasing their planes to them. My WAG is that it has a Cessna available, goes to a lower altitude for all types of jumps and accepts the infamous SR GC. The way to check it out is to drive south on I-10, stop off at Estrella Airport, check it out, then continue on to Eloy. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with Skydive Arizona. SDA will not take SR CG. I guarantee that too. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  9. youtube has a couple of good renditions of Blood on the Risers. I seem to recall that some of the 3rd party military sites also had some other songs. The AirTrash guys still sing at the DZ. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  10. For those of you not familiar with Groupon, the company partners with local businesses to send a daily coupon e-blast to its members. The members who buy the coupon get 50 to 70 percent off on a product or service, and Groupon splits the proceeds with the retailer — usually leaving the retailer with about 20 to 25 cents on the dollar of retail value. So if someone normally sells item A for $100, the Groupon would be $50. Then the $50 is split -evenly- between the merchant and Groupon? So the merchant gets $25 for a product or service that normally goes for $100?? If that is the case, then the original pricing is way too high (assuming that the merchant can make a profit with the $25 price) and would not be supported by free-market competition. I was kind of lost on the post that mentioned that a minimum number of coupons had to be sold in order for the discount to kick in?? What is that about? . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  11. jeannie went in the weekend before March 14, 1981 at Elsinore. This was the weekend before I did my first jump. Everyone at Perris was talking about the accident. What I heard, was that she had two previous totals on a Racer on the same day and was admonished/teased. On the 3rd one, she apparently did not pull the reserve because she was getting teased about not knowing how to pack a pud. About a year later when I bought my first Racer, I was shown how she packed her totals and how to pin-check for it. From what I was told back then she wrapped the short pud bridle line around the base of the PC. That creates a total in most cases. Why she could not check this, is beyond me because it is very easy to check. In those days, only students had packers. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  12. I have 3 Asus lappys and don't have that problem. One came with Linux. I switched to XP later and then had to regenerate the Linux install. Then went to the XP install again. If you call their support line they can walk you through how to put it back to the original configuration. The other two have XP and I have no problems with them doing internet video. The only video problems I have are related to the latest flash version, that seems to crash every once & awhile. The crapware should be able to be removed via the control panel. Or you could nuke the directories that hold those programs and then change the registry to eliminate errors that show up. Here's something I did not realize: Even if you do an install of XP that says 'format the HD' you can still get back the original install. Worked on both the linux and XP lappys. But you have to do some trickery in CMOS to go back. Their tech support can walk you thru it. But one caveat, you'll need to boot off a CD player and not the HD to 'go back to XP'. You can change boot order in CMOS. Windows does not allow you to install a previous version over a later version. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  13. There is a fine line here. One could become as annoying as all the flyers in the mailbox this month or all the robo calls. I've received 5 emails, today alone, about a RD I cannot even vote for. Puppy Tale

It will get worse unless you start training him. Start with a Sit! Then move to Sit-Stay! Passing through doors: he should be in a sit stay and only go thru the door on your command or by following you out the door. This is very important to prevent him charging the yard gate. Do not answer a scratch at the door. Instead, either ignore it or walk outside and close the door behind you. It is fairly easy to teach puppies Sit and Stay. A good book is The Art of Raising a Puppy . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  16. Other than that, no, I can't think of any supporting facts. FYI: Bill Dause was on the USPA Board of Directors and served on the R&D Comm. That comm routinely studied new and existing equipment that came out. Results were published in Parachutist. I'd have to go pull mags to get the exacts dates, which I don't feel like doing right now. To say that Bill Dause has not contributed anything to the sum total of skydiving/parachuting knowledge would be incorrect. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  17. This may be one of many inquiries that the FAA does a a result of the NTSB recommendations. The attachment labeled A-08-63-68 is the one that directs the FAA to conduct more inspections of skydiving operations. For more discussion about how the NTSB, FAA and USPA have changed their respective, perspectives on the industry see: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3330031 . . 18. So there is this thread in the Incidents forum that has had a machete taken to it. Posts are cut left, right and in-between. This is highly unusual. I've never seen a thread beaten down so much as this one. For my personal views on censorship, see avatar (the picture to the left, not the movie). I can understand Eric's motivation to keep the thread to the incident, but the OP did bring up ancillary issues that may relate to the incident. The first cut at pruning only eliminated a post or two. The revised cutting eliminated a significant portion of the thread. As of this point in time, only 15 of 56 posts are visible. I have a suggestion. Restore all the posts and move the thread to an 'appropriate' forum. Replace the incident thread with a factual account of the incident as it is known now. just saying....... . . 19. You should check the facts Andy. In the SR v USPA litigation, some quotes from DZ.com were put into the complaint that SR made against USPA, but they were never admitted as evidence in court. In the SDA v SR case there were no DZ.com posts mentioned by either side. There was a section of one of my web sites that was an exact replica of a post I made here that was redacted by SR in one of the SDA exhibits. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  20. The case was appealed by SR. SDA has asked the court to demand a bond from SR so that SR does not dissipate assets. SDA is also doing some other things to find the money and make sure it does not get transferred to lala land. In court, SR showed a slide that said they made ~$24M from 2003 to 2008. I don't think there are valid grounds for appeal. The court did not allow any information about any legal action against SR be presented before the jury. In a ironic twist, SR redacted part of my funjumper.com page from the SDA v SR exhibits (at trial), yet this same text was in the complaint that SR filed against USPA. That should give you an idea on how easily USPA could have won their case. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker

  22. I think some clarification might be in order. I was suggesting adding a unique key to the mysql DB based on a combination of the two data fields. (You have to make sure that the formatting of the combined field works for the timestamp format that you use, accounting for padding of spaces or 0) The DB then processes the requests and ensures only one entry for the key. I was not suggesting that you use the scripting language or a cgi language to process the determination of uniqueness. Also, just because the two data fields that you are looking at match, does not mean the rest of the record is identical. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  23. Check dimensions of your rig and this box http://www.leisurepro.com/prod/PL1510NF.html?srccode=cii_9324560&cpncode=21-65683549-2 I saw one of these at a layover at some airport somewhere this year. It's nice. This was the cheapest price I could find. And it is carry on. We also use Pelican (larger box) for the OmniSkore! systems that travel the world. Excellent. And when a handle ( or two) breaks, Pelican sends you a replacement asap. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  24. You could make a unique key from the two data fields. You could do subsequent queries with the distinct modifier (and not worry about dupes) You can run a dupe checker later and remove dupes. . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
  25. Air Force Impulse has a 6 pt lead over 2nd place Spaceland Mamba after R1. It would be unfair to state that they have a 12 pt lead over "2nd" place when Mamba has not jumped R2 yet. Nice ave for them - maybe they are all seniors?? . . Make It Happen Parachute History DiveMaker
