Star, Idaho Boogie (Bring a Newbie)
tandemking replied to tandemking's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I will be hosting Kapowsin's Twin Otter on June 25/26/27. We will be jamming loads starting at 10:00 am on Friday the 25th. This is an excellent Boogie for Newbies and folks without a lot of jumps to get the feel of a Boogie with a HUGE landing area and great vibes and not get lost in the crowd like some other boogies. Grab a Newbie from your DZ and bring'em along! State Record RW Dives on Saturday starting at 08:00 am, (34 way), and a full day of diving followd by a great LUAU with a pig and plenty of "liquid refreshments". The GRAVITY CANTINA on the DZ will be in full swing along with a great fire pit close by. This is the Mother of All Boogies for Snake River Skydiving at my beautiful PRIVATE facility. Camping and RV slots available, showers, swimming pool, food on site all 3 days. Don't miss it! FFI call 208-377-8111. See ya in STAR! Larry D-16806 -
You folks coming to visit for any of the Boogies this season or what?

Scott: Even the field is cleaned up. Maybe I'm getting environmentally friendly or something? We'll still figure out something odd to toss from the plane this year but no specific target. You guys are gonna DIG the "new and improved" Snake River Skydiving. See ya soon. (I'll watch out for Pedro El Dicko Heado) ~L~

If you are in the NW area you owe it to yourself to make it to this Boogie! Snake River Skydiving has undergone a "makeover" and now has over 2.5 acres of fenced landing area with a lot of grass to land in. The pool is filled up and ready to go, and, we recently began enjoying the "Gravity Cantina" on the covered patio. The weekend of June 25/27 we'll be hosting a Twin Otter, the Turbine 207 "Gonzo" from West Plains Skydiving, and for the 34 way State RW record, a Turbocharged C-206. We have a huge Luau with live music planned for Sat the 26th and plenty of brew. This DZ is PRIVATE and we are fortunate enough to have good neighbors. We jump hard and party hard and get to see the mountains in Idaho, Oregon & Nevada on every dive. It's not Lost Prairie, its not WFFC, its not Eloy and we don't try to be. $20 Reg & $20 tickets to 13,000' Call FFI 208-377-8111 ~Larry~

Interested in Opening a Drop Zone...Few Q's...

E-mail for details concerning my PRIVATE DZ. I have had it for sale on and off for a few years. If I got the right offer it would be for sale. . .again. Larry D16806 -
I own and operate Snake River Skydiving in Star, Idaho. I have met with the owner of the VWT advertised in Parachutist and I went to look it over. I have not flown in it, because it was JANUARY, but I did make some observations. I have 4100+ dives, 2300 TT flying and 20+ yrs as an aircraft mechanic. Based on that experience, (although I did not "fly" in this VWT), I can say it is merely, "OK". It has a 400 hpo diesel engine and two 3 bladed ultralight propellers for thrust. (72" diameter) It is more of a novelty for whuffos than any type of training tool. Check out the photos on their web site. Larry D-16806

How long has your dz been around?
tandemking replied to diverds's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Star, Idaho since 1969. Almost non stop operation over that time period. This place used to be a drag strip in the 50's and 60' called "Thunder Ridge" I have operated Snake River Skydiving here since 1994. The Collegiate Nationals were held here in 1976 I beleive. This is a private DZ out in the country only 16 miles from downtown Boise and it ROCKS! www.snakeriverskydiving.com Larry D-16806 -
Tandem person shooting their own video?
tandemking replied to tandemking's topic in Photography and Video
I have to say a couple things about this thread I started; I am VERY greatful that this doesn't turn into a testosterone laced pissing contest between old has beens like over on rec.skydiving. I have gotten some very good opinions, both pro and con as to using a handycam type system. With some of the information I have recieved through your replies, and research I have done on my own, I believe I will give the handcam system a try this season. I operate a C-182 DZ and I have NO camera people available during the week. With my background in tandem (2500) and video, (500+), I feel I can shoot my own videos safely. I intend to use a side mount camera helmet with a Sony PC5 and the "handcam" on the back of my left hand. It is small and light and I don't feel it will interfer with my getting stable on exits. Yes, there will be an slightly elevated degree of risk, but compared to a lot of the other crazy things people do in our sport, this is negligable. I follow the skydiving scene world wide and have not seen the headline, "TM dies due to handycam problem". This of course does NOT mean that it can't happen, but I feel that I am not putting myself into any more danger with a handcam setup than I am on a "normal" tandem. Aggie Dave said that he never has a problem with slots at his DZ and having to re-arrange to get a video or tandem done. Out here in "Cessnaland", we have to do things a bit different and small DZO's like myself are always looking to add a little more to an already thin bottom line. Having a TM with a Handcam may just be the ticket to making a bit more profit. I appreciate all the responses and wish you all a safe skydiving season!!! Larry D-16806 -
Tandem person shooting their own video?
tandemking replied to tandemking's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks for the input. I've done 2500 tandems and 500 videos so I know the pros and cons pretty well and have seen my share of wild stuff from BOTH sides of the lense. I operate a small DZ with a C-182 and there are no local cameramen who can help out on weekdays in the summertime. This may be a way for me to make a few more dollars but I'm not sure I want to sacrifice my feeling of safety for the bucks. Gotta sleep on this one a while and maybe hear some more opinions. Take care, jump safely! Larry D-16806 www.tandem-skydive.com -
Tandem person shooting their own video?
tandemking replied to tandemking's topic in Photography and Video
I know some DZ's are doing it, but where is the camera on the dive. I certainly wouldn't want one on my head during a tandem opening or malfunction. Also, what is the charge for the tandem person to shoot their own video? Is it the same as taking a camera flyer on the dive?? Also, how good is the quality with the lipstick cameras? Larry D-16806 -
I've had 2 female students ask me on the ride up in the Cessna; "Do we get hooked up before or AFTER we leave the plane". DUH! I had a lady ralph on me and on the very next jump her mother, (5'3" 180 lbs) passed out on me. At least it was a 102 degree day with no wind for that landing. I had a 26 yr old MALE whimpering after opening; "Get me down, I just wanna be back on the ground". He had actual tears. As for orgasms? Maybe 4-5 women have confessed that to me in my 2500 tandems. Odd, huh? Thankfully, no GUYS have ever said that. D'oh! Bad breath, body odor, abject fear, indescribable student positions on exit, and even offers of sexual favors after the jump, (politely declined), are just some of the bizzare things that I've experienced in my Tandem career. Ya never know what the day will bring when you strap on the tandem rig! If Mother Nature hoses us with poor weather again this weekend it will make 12 weekends in a row we haven't had the DZ open here in Boise, ID. Damn, I'd rather be packing tandems on a 99 degree day than watchin it snow. . . . . Blue skies, have a safe 2004 kids! Print directly from digital video???
tandemking replied to tandemking's topic in Photography and Video
I see locally some electronics store was advertising a Canon printer that directly interfaces with a Canon digital video camera and prints whatever is paused on the screen. Anyone know if Sony video cameras can link to a printer the same way and if so, where do I get one??? Larry D-16806 -
PAC 750 XL and Pilot lost at sea
tandemking replied to tandemking's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I got this from the online news magazine "AVFLASH" this morning; New Zealand Pilot, New Aircraft, Lost At Sea On Friday, a ferry pilot en route from Hawaii to California ditched in the mid-Pacific after reporting a fuel problem, and was killed. Kelvin Stark, 58, of Tauranga, was ferrying a brand-new Pacific Aerospace Corporation PAC 750XL plane to Oakland. It was the first of the $1.7 million aircraft to be sold overseas, according to Saturday's New Zealand Herald. Stark radioed for help, and Coast Guard rescuers were sent to the scene, but he never emerged from the cockpit after the ditching. The aircraft was intended to be used as a demonstration plane, and then be delivered to a customer who planned to use it for skydiving. The company says it is the first passenger plane designed and made in New Zealand, according to the Herald. It can lift 17 skydivers to 11,811 feet in 12 minutes. It is also marketed for cargo, sightseeing, medical and military uses. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for this model of aircraft after this incident. http://www.aerospace.co.nz/index.htm ~Larry~ D16806 -

tandemking replied to tandemking's topic in Photography and Video
HELP! I need a small still camera for winter work and can't find the company that used to advertise them in Parachutist. This was a small 35mm about the size of a disposable but still had the auto wind and remote feature. Anyone got a clue where I can find one???? Midget Skydiver's....Do they exist?
tandemking replied to Jackajeffries's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A;though I am NOT a Munchkin, as some people have labeled me, I do suffer from having my ass built pretty close to the ground. I am 5'3" and I have done over 2400 tandem dives in the past 8 seasons. In addition, I flew at Eloy for 2 winters and logged 925 hrs in the Super Otters. Sitting on the Eloy phone book really helped! Please have a great laugh at my expense with the enclosed photo!
