  1. I think you're right, Quicktime Pro is the way to go but I am wondering if after installing if it will give me the codecs necessary for the clear image i want in video for the web and quick to download. I mean be compatable with my cards. I can capture in Mpeg very clear no problem but the files are too too big for the web. My system has 319 mb of ram pentium 100 with 10. 5 gig or hard drive space. I think the problem lies with the codecs. Just learned that indeo video is in ties with Microsoft video for windows (VFW) and uses a variety of codecs such as cinepak and indeo video. NO money for imac or sony vaoi system so must persistantly try locating vendor info for indeo video and see what I get. I am not going with pro until I know they will be compatable with my maxtor and margi firewire capture cards for video. My videos are small 240 X 180. I checked out the apple.com/ trailers website, videos look crystal clear. I spent enough money on my cards no way will I make a move until I see the quality I expect. Until then more research less video and more time to get more experience. Stubborn Jo "Fight the Good Fight, Give and Take the best you can"
  2. Ok, this is the scoop. I have a sony pc-5 digital video camera, Hp Pavillion pc with a maxtor 1394 IEEE Firewire card. I can capture my video in Adobe Premiere 6, Videowave, Video Create software ect... but when I save the file for web(compress the file) the image quality is blurry. In Premiere I am using cleaner 5, save for web and using the wizard. My card will only allow me to use the capture format DV/IEEE 1394 capture and the only compressor available is microsoft DV NTSC. When I try selecting Quicktime (CinePak Codec or Cinepak Code for radius) I receive an error unable to connect to capture driver and no picture shows up in the capture window. I can save as a mpeg and quality is good but the file size is too large. I tried looking for the drivers for the firewire card on the Quicktime web site and Maxtor and was unsuccessful. I also have a Toshiba Laptop with a Margi firewire card and the same problem occurs. I was also thinking of purchasing Final Cut Pro but dont want to spend any more money if the software does not provide me with the proper codecs that my capture driver can connect to. I have looked at other peoples videos for the web after compression eg. Sony Vaio Laptop running DVGate motion to capture which I presume the CinePak codecs are already built in to the software. (Not sure what type of firewire card they are using)The videos seem very clear. Any suggestions? JO "Fight the Good Fight, Give and Take the best you can"
  3. A friend of mine from Canada told me that they were getting an Otter from the US for the weekend to fly at one of their dropzones. Not a bad plan to keep the US dz planes a flyin to pay for fuel maintenance ect...anyways just a suggestion to help out the DZ's. Would love to partake but cannot leave the country :( but happy to hear skydivers are trying to help out anyway they can..keep up the good work. "Fight the Good Fight, Give and Take the best you can"
  4. K, dont want to be disrespectful of the this situation but this is how it is with me. I need to jump. I must jump and will jump even if I have to jump off a cliff 41 friggin foot cliff to accumulate perhaps 2 seconds of freefall and then land in the water so be it. "I'm jumpin". 5. Very tragic news. I know a few jumpers from the ranch who work in Manhatten. Hope everyone is ok. I was unsuccessful in contacting them. My heart goes out to all the families. JoHuge "Fight the Good Fight, Give and Take the best you can"
  6. Nah! I think sometimes money is not the issue altough it feels nice to have someone spend money on you. I think its the quality of time to spend with someone you care about. Even just a hug can make someones day, how long does that take out of your day. It doesn't cost anybody any money, just attention. Everyone needs that once in awhile. Landing Out?

"Unusual place you’ve landed out and quite an experience getting back to the DZ." I remember one time when a group of us decided to go for an early morning balloon jump at one of the boogies, because of high winds that picked up, we landed about 20 miles from the dropzone in a baseball diamond. We were the last ones to jump and unfortunetely none of us organized to have someone pick us up assuming the van would pick us up but unfortunely the batteries in the radio were dead so we could not let them know where we were. We phoned the dz from the closest convenience store, and no one answered, guess the dz was not open yet. We asked a few people at the store if they could give us a lift but obviously no one wanted to drive that far. Finally the only other thing to do was try and hitch a ride, course me being the only girl, I was chosen to do the dirty work. I of course hid my gear knowing it would scare most whuffos from picking us up. We eventually did get picked up, yup by the cops. They actually wanted to arrest me....apparently someone had called to report some drunken prostitue on the side of the road obstructing traffic.....I'm like What! Anyways, we explained to the police the situation, and they understood and drove us to the dz. Boy what a ride! What a story and alot of lessons to be learned that day like always make sure you have a plan B, organize a ride to pick you up, carry a cell phone, and make sure you have the dz phone number. Always have a pullup chord with you so you can pack up your rig, always land together if you can safely. Jo "Fight the Good Fight, Give and Take the best you can"
  8. Hey Harro, where's your picture? Honeymoon!, come visit us Zonies at Eloy for the Christmas boogie, make a balloon jump, high altitude (21,000) Biplane, DC3 or 4 maybe helicoptor, bunk house and heated pool. Fun Bunch, lots of organized for every level and dicipline. Hee ha, heading to Eloy today, well if I ever get myself together and get off the net. So tempted to try out my new fins and goggles on a jump, not sure about the landing part, could land on my butt. Can you imagine the kick ass track with those fins, Birdman eat your heart out, here comes Scuba woman in for the lead. "Fight the Good Fight, Give and Take the best you can"
  9. Polished off a 26er of Gin, then carried on with the Harvey Wall Bangers to celebrate Birthday, stumbled to the party, fell off the step, crawled home well had some friends kinda help me along, went home to early, fell into the door, woke up the next morning with lots of bruises and scratches. Was the talk of the town and well...that's why I dont live in a small town anymore. "The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams".
  10. It'll all happen just give it some time and maybe you would feel more comfortable jumping in the morning when you fresh if you have the time. I used to try jumping after a 2:30 shift, we would end up at the dz late afternoon, kinda tired after a day of work, winds would pick up. It's normal to feel a little nervous and tense at the beginning. Just trust in your instincts and get used to eyeballing the ground sounds like your biological clock has already kicked in. As one skydiver has reminded me, altimeters and ditters are mechanical they can break down, you're eyes wont fail you. Time to go to bed. "The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams".
  11. Cool another Canadian, know what you mean I started IAD back in I believe 94 or 92, boy have times changed. Was anxious to get into freefall, very nervous about pulling my own pilot chute the first time. Quite confident afterwards shit, that was not bad at all. Think I was being too over analytical about myself. Boy the first freefall felt wonderful, I remember thinking, wow" I am truly flying". Well then when I was ready for the next step flying with other people I thought everybody looked so funny, like cartoon characters, LoL What a ride! "The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams".
  12. Dont remember the name but remember he had a video camera but still a student so could not jump with it yet, was hmmm in October 99. Think there is alot of skydivers, well if you include the oletimers like me...and always lots of good stories. Interesting to know how long some of these dz's have been around...alot of history. Met a few from McCoy too, dont think I got the spelling right. They took me under their wings ;) Hope all is well with everyone, some skydivers I met dont have access to the net when I met them and I'm not very good to keep up with regular mail and phone calls. Beautiful country but dont really believe it's the country that makes it beautiful I believe it's the people in it. "The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams".
  13. Cute I like that idea...Already married now...hoping for Hawaii for Honeymoon...Knew a jumper from Brisbane unfortunetely I'm not good with names met him at Corowa at the world meet. I know big world lots of skydivers but you never know. Still think we may have a ceremony at Eloy maybe jump out of the balloon. "The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams".
  14. Be Verwy verwy verwy careful! And check out the Sportsman tent, tellim JOHUGE sent you. They spoiled me with frozen Daiquiries for the evening Totties and morning expresso for that get and go-skydive and at the end of the day was followed usually by lectures, reminders keep your eyes open, always look around you under canopy, and who the hell cares if you land a little out it's better than not walking away at all. "Nice to know, people care." As an old friend once said, "dont fear the sport, respect it" Quincy 98 www.geocities.com/boo85040 "The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams".
  15. If one decides, to get married in da plane, how does one jump outta da plane with a full length wedding dress. Just thinking now, head down might work, lots of drag but could become messy come pull time. Promise to wear lace underwear ;) Next question, where to find a Justice of the Peace who would marry you in freefall? "The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams".
