Ever chopped a perfectly good main?
bgy8nas replied to jeremyneas's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I haved a video of an instructer (UK) chopping a perfectly good stilletto. Well almost perfect... it was on backwards! -
This may be trivial but id rather be sure. Whilst checking my new rig I noticed that if I take hold of the cutaway pad in one hand and the cables in the other I can pull the cables out of the pad by about 1-2 cm. I can also see the cables moving inside the pad. I just want to be sure that that is normal. Can anyone tell me how the cables are held within the pad, I think if I new how it was put together I would be less nervous. I will show this to a rigger at the weekend but any responses sooner would be much appreciated. Happy xmas Nick

Im no expert, but I think a safire 1 169 is actually about a 155 (they are smaller than they say). If you were at the bcpa meet at the weekend I know which rig you mean. I was going to jump the safire 169 but the wind dropped so i opted for the sabre 170. Nick

Have jumped my clubs superfly for the last 30 jumps, was excellent so have just bought a new one. They are a good company to deal with, Chris Thomas was very helpful plus they are reasonably priced and have a fast delivery time. If you can get to the factory at Brid it would be well worth it, to have a look at materials and colours and get some design tips. n

Yes, I was just curious, it was meant as a general question not related to me directly.

Why?

I have heard that audible altimeters can sound for the third time at any point under their lowest setting provided the required speed is reached and so as a result they often beep if the jumper swoops his/her canopy. Is this the same with the cypres2 (expert) or will it only fire at 750 feet? Is there any danger of a cypress2 firing during a swoop. Apologies if this is a stupid question ! Cheers Nick

I am researching reserve canopies at the mo as I am trying to build a rig and was thinking of getting one second hand to save money. But I have found that paractecs "speed" reserve is not only relatively cheap but also has a v small pack volume which sounds like a bonus. Does anyone know why the pack volume is so small and can anyone recommend the speed reserve. Cheers Nick

Thanks for the help guys, will think it over. Nick

Does anyone know anything about the Phantom 145 reserve. I have been offered a second hand one but can't find any info. Who makes it, how does the pack volume compare to PD, what are peoples opinions about the quality? Cheers nick
