Journalist: U.S. planning for possible attack on Iran
crozby replied to rhino's topic in Speakers Corner
There's an episode of the Simpsons where Sideshow Bob steps on a garden rakes, it springs up and hits his head and he says "Grrrrrrrr". Then he does it again. And again. And again, and so on for about a minute (which is an exceedingly long time to draw out a Simpsons joke). Seems to me whoever wrote that sketch is the same bunch of comedians that have been masterminding US foreign policy for the last few years. Yes Bush & co will attack Iran because they are too arrogant to learn from Iraq and too insensitive to understand the cost of their policies in terms of US and foreign lives, and too stupid to realise that in the end you can't use force to make an entire nation behave the way you want them to. Not for very long at any rate. And when, at a later date, 'terrorists' emerge from this ever increasing pool of American hating people around the world and succeed in causing another 9/11 the US government will claim that it wasn't of their making - they are trying really hard to protect you all, but it just isn't easy because there are simply so many mad terrorists hell-bent on attacking you for no good reason except that you are American. It is all so predictable and depressing. -
If 98% of the population agree with you, why do you post so much pro-gun stuff on this website? Wouldn't that be a bit of waste of time, like posting news articles and studies on how breathing air is good for us? More seriously, do you work for the NRA?

All the other things everyone else said. plus getting down from my first jump of the day and realizing that because its been sooo long since my last days skydiving i've forgotten how to pack my rig. yet again.

Graner Gets 10 Yrs in Iraqi Prison Abuse. Outrageous!

Do you have any evidence that Iraq was doing any of this stuff prior to the invasion? If so, please would you post it. -
TO ALL: Marines, Soldiers, Airman, and Seamen

What your CIC thinks about all this: (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/4178655.stm) Sure there are brave guys and girls in Iraq. It's just a fucking traversty that so many THOUSANDS of them are returning home in boxes or minus eyes and arms and legs for this shit-head. Where does patriotism end and common sense begin? -
What is scary is that the average temperature over the USA went up by over 1 degree during the 3 day period the planes were all grounded after 9/11 just because of the lack of jet vapour trails.

A quick google on "Evolution Fact Theory" turns up a number of articles that claim that evolution is both fact and theory. Here's one: http://www.actionbioscience.org/evolution/lenski.html The basic gist is that it is a proven fact that organisms evolve, but there are only theories as to the actual mechanisms involved. One dictionary definition of a theory is: Creationism can not be described as a theory based on that definition. However it fits quite nicely with the following definition of Myth:

I like your piccy - a very British piece of high quality automotive engineering!

I agree too. It really pisses me off that my local taxes get spent on employing hoards of interpreters rather than making it a requirement that anyone coming to england either speaks english or pays the state for english lessons. other aspects of national identity get watered down by foreign influences all the time. For example, MacDonalds is everywhere in the UK now when it wasn't 25 years ago, so is Pepsi, so is Coke. We are bombarded with US TV (some good) and Australian soaps (all bad). All these things together make England less 'English' and its the price we pay for globalization, but some of it is good - if you'd ever had a Wimpy burger you'd know what I'm talking about.
-
The watering down of cultural identities is one of the natural side-effects of globalisation isn't it?

If you haven't already, you might want to read phillykev's parting thread in Bonfire...

long time, no read. Been on holiday? Or banned?
-
ok, its really late here and i'm probably being really slow and dumb, but i dont get understand.
-
I can't wait to get down there. Here in the UK it's like being near the north pole at the moment - we have whole days when it doesnt seem to get properly light. I'm so desperate to jump i keep wanting to get my rig out, unpack it & pack it up a few times, just to do something skydivey, which just isn't fucking normal. Seriously bad withdrawal symptoms...

If in the USA the expression 'what have you been smoking' is a personal attack then I appologise. Here in the UK it's the equivalent to 'What the hell are you talking about?'.
-
I don't see how you've come to the conclusion that 'terror was beat'. Yeah, some of the insurgents died there, but even your own military admits that most of them had fucked off somewhere else before the operation even started. So what else did the attack on Falluja achieve? Well it made yet more liberated Iraqis homeless. And some more liberated Iraqis dead. It made another Iraqi city uninhabitable. And it resulted in the death and injury of yet more young Americans.
-
Because with the technical level of forensics these days it wouldn't be possible to dump tons of WMD somewhere in Iraq and not leave evidence of having done so.
-
My post doesn't even mention the USA. Not explicitly or implicitly. What the fuck are you guys smoking?

Uhh? Who's rattled your cage Dorbie? I wasn't bashing US aid or any other aid, I was putting forward a possible explanation as to why the world can put it's hands in its pockets and find 3-4 billion in small change for the Tsunami victims in just a couple of weeks, but doesn't do anything like the same thing for Africa.
-
I heard that 150,000 people - the number of Tsunami casualties - are dying of aids and poverty around the world each week. I dunno if that figure is correct, but what is for sure is that long ago the West got fed up of donating millions of dollars to Africa only for it to end up being used to purchase palaces and luxury for corrupt African leaders or weapons for the goons that keep them in power. If someone were to publish a dollar figure representing the total amount of aid donated to Africa by western people over the last 20 years there is no doubt in my mind there would be outrage at how little good has actually come from it.

It wasn't God, it was the tooth fairy. She came to me in a vision and said so when i was squeezing one out on the can earlier.
-
Really? Where do you get that idea from? Give me some examples from recent history where that tactic has worked? How about I kick off with an example that contradicts your statement: Northern Ireland.

This can best be described as "Racist bollocks". I'm surprised it doesn't advocate the donning of bed linen and pointy hats and torching the joint.
