Ok, so you've trawled the internet and found ONE instance where, on BBC Radio 4, in 1999, some British politician was asked his opinion on a particular news story. He said: "I hope that they will look carefully at what this country did in banning handguns after the Dunblane massacre, and I hope we never have to wake up to this sort of news again from America..." And you interpret that as Britain, the nation, trying to impose gun control on the USA. In one of your earlier posts you stated you'd never done any drugs. Now is the time to start. You need to chill out and relax. Go get yourself some weed, roll a fat one, and take a well earned rest.

Well where is the evidence then?
-
There is a third option which is that the organisation called Al-Quaeda and the terrorist 'cells' simply do not exist in the way the US government claims they do. It is an imaginary threat much like the Soviet Union was.

That would mean changing the poll parameters to allow multiple selections, and I can't be arsed.

Aw come on Paj, you are the Christian oracle around here - tell me what you think.

I was talking with some friends tonight about the discussions on SC an the US elections and Bush in particular. I was talking about how Bush uses religion in part to justify his policies, and they said it is Bullshit. They said the religion is just a ruse. Bush is not a real Christian. Bush is a crooked businessman. Bush authorises state sponsored murder. Bush is a drug taker. Bush drinks and drives. Up till then I thought Bush was a genuine christian. But this got me thinking. Could he be pretending to be a christian because it can't fail to increase his popularity? What do you think? Is Bush the christian his PR team make him out to be? Or is it all a cynical fabrication?

You are right. I know nothing about Edwards, but even if the guy was a shit-head to doctors, it's his wife who has the cancer. I hope she recovers, and i hope that if he previously was a shit-head, this experience makes him less so. Anyone who has been through this kind of nightmare knows that it humbles you and, as painful as it is, the result is almost always a nicer you.

You are so wrong (yet again ), your threads are great. it's some of the un-funny mean spirited responses that aren't so nice.

If History teaches us anything, it teaches us that simply isn't true. Beating people into submission has never worked. It wouldn't work on you or me, and it doesn't work on 'them'.

As long as it gets burned it is, otherwise it's a greenhouse gas. Those pesky cows need to do their bit too... (http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2004/04/11/417500-cp.html) Something like 20% of Australia's greenhouse gas emissions comes from agriculture. That's a lot of farting!

Agreed. This whole thread sucks.

Rumsfeld: There were no WMD's, There is no Al Qaeda/Iraq connection

BBC news here just stated that the hospital was taken so that they could get accurate casualty figures. I suspect your reason also applies, plus they don't want the insurgents blowing the thing up - it's not good PR. -
Tuna, your philosophy seems to be that if you don't get caught and prosecuted for a crime you haven't comitted it. Is that right?

As the Christian right gather support through acts like this they will no doubt go further and start targetting other immoral activities like porn, gambling, swearing on TV, farting in public etc. And then all those homophobes who didn't think there was anything wrong with supressing the rights of homosexuals will suddenly be on the receiving end of the interfering fascist do-good'ers that they used to support.

You are very keen to discount others estimates for the number of civilians have been killed by US troops. Is this because you have some alternative more credible figures, or are you just in denial? -
Does the american election affect the rest of the world?

In Europe we have a higher GDP than the States, so working lots of hours and taking sod-all holiday isn't that great for the economy either. -
that is so true. politicians on all sides must surely realise that, and assuming they do then you have to wonder what vested interest they have in keeping the status quo.

Well get off your backside and go there on a skydiving holiday. The people are great, the food is .. umm.. plentiful and the skydiving is better than awsome. -
Some prick in Holland murders somebody and you call it terrorism and lay the blame on a billion Muslims.

You tell us the figures then. We really want to know. I get the impression you'd rather not. Why is that? -
And maybe with all the tasteless comments you have been coming out with, you shouldn't. Just stick to voicing hopes for Arafat dying - it seems he's the only one considered fair game around here.
-
Whilst we know accurately how many coalition troops have died, for some reason there doesn't seem to be that much interest on the part of the US government to find out how many iraqi civilians have died and been injured. Considering that we are there to liberate these people I find that a bit strange. Don't you?

If people stopped doing that SC would just dry up.

I just have to share this because I was disgusted.

Sometimes people think they know how they would react in a situation, only to descover they react totally different when the situation actually arises. It just means they don't know themselves as well as they think they do. Is that so unforgivable? -
Yup, you carry on believing that, afterall your government relies on you doing so to give them an easier ride. Maybe though you might want to pause in your paranoia and just ask yourself the following questions: 1. Since 9/11, how many terrorist plots have come to fruition in the USA? 2. Since 9/11, how many terrorist plots have been thwarted in the USA? 3. Since 9/11, of all the people arrested for having anything to do with terrorism, how many have been convicted? See, in the UK, of all the 700+ people arrested in relation to terrorism, so far *NONE* have been convicted. If terrorists are everywhere you'd have thought that your government might have caught some of them by now. For the umteenth time you are getting your towelheads all mixed up. Chechnyans (go look up where it is on a map for fucks-sake) want Russia to give them independence. Russia has been persecuting them on and off for nearly two centuries. Russia has committed countless inhumane acts against the Chechnyans. There have been countless disgusting acts by both sides. But, and this is the point you seem to be misunderstanding: They have fuck-all to do with Al-quaeda or SH or OBL. You're living in a fantasy world. Firstly, Al-quaeda as a network of efficiently working terrorist cells is a figment of your governments imagination, secondly, even if they did exist, why the fuck would they hold a US polling station hostage rather than blow the fucking thing up, and thirdly, if they do exist and they do want to blow up US polling stations, why didn't they flood accross the Mexican and Canadian borders this week and do just that? Do some fucking research for crying out loud. Look at the evidence rather than blindly regurgitating the crap that your government keeps feeding you.
