  1. The fact that your earlier post with the stats has been so studiously ignored speaks volumes...

Oh yeah, sorry I forgot. Your ancestors involvement in a war over half a century ago gives your present day president carte blanche to do anything to anybody. Silly me for not remembering that.

Umm, no. You still miss the point. Its pretty straightforward, let me break it down into the two key parts: 1. Bush says he will end tyranny. 2. Bush sells weapons to those inflicting tyranny. Its got nothing to do with what's been happening for decades unless you happen to think its acceptable that he says one thing and does another simply because others have done the same before him. Geddit?

Huh? The article states that 20 of the top 25 recipients of US military hardware are "either undemocratic regimes or governments with records of major human rights abuses". What's your point? That its ok to sell arms to lots of dictators and human rights abusers as long as you also sell them to a few democracies?

I dunno, maybe you really can't see the hypocrisy of spouting crap like "ending tyranny in our world" whilst at the same time selling shitloads of weapons to questionable regimes, but it seems pretty fucking obvious to me.

For the people who find clickys too much like hard work. Here's an executive summary of the executive summary: It doesn't surprise me that more arms are sold to nations that need them, than to nations that don't - that much is pretty obvious. But its always good to read something that reinforces the view that Bush is a hypocritical self-serving two-faced lying twat.
  7. Explain better why you feel that way... don't just throw snide comments. So tell me, how would it pan out if *everybody* decided to knuckle down and work really hard to make it to the top? You think they'd all be up there? I don't think so. I think there is limited room at the top of the pile and that, given society is structured like one big pyramid, most people are destined to be down at the bottom somewhere not doing so well for themselves. Not everyone is born into a situation where they can just knuckle down, better themselves and earn more money, but it sure does make the haves feel a whole lot less guilty and a whole lot more morally justified about their better situation to think it's the case. I'd say that most people can no more get to the top of the pile than most people can't win the Olympic 100 meters, so lame sloagans like a nation being the 'Land of Opportunity' are just that: lame slogans.
  8. But that just reinforces Johns argument: the more guns everyone has, the less crime there is. No doubt the crime rate in Ireland will soar if that terrorist organisation called the IRA ever gets around to decomissioning all those weapons it got from the good ol' USofA.
  9. You'd have though Israel would support such an action given her claim to Palestine, wouldn't you? But I haven't heard much in the way of criticism of the USA...
  10. I think the hebrew word that Thou shalt not kill is translated from means 'kill intentionally'. State sponsored murder is without a doubt intentional.
  11. I don't understand your point, and I normally do, and I normally think 'i wish i'd said it like that'. but its halft-midnight here, so maybe i'm just being slow. The point i was trying to make is that the States seem to be overly religeous yet overly ruthless. I really don't think JC would approve of the death penalty yet it is clearly popular amongst the Christian right. It looks like a clear case of 'men' twisting the word of God to meet their own needs to me.
  12. I find it staggering that a nation that consists of so many Christians chooses to associate itself with the most revolting shithole countries on this planet by continuing to implement the death penalty. I like to imagine Jesus Christ sat there amongst the vengeful relatives and self-serving journo's watching the victin being pumped up with poison. Would He be nodding in approval, or just shaking His head with shame? Its pretty fucking obvious when you think about it...
  13. It is a fact your nation abuses Iraqi prisoners. It is a fact your nation abuses American prisoners. Why the crap wouldn't your nation abuse gitmo prisoners?
  14. And here's further evidence that the human brain has been evolving over the last couple of years: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=4311
  15. I assumed you were a Brit from your user id. You said to someone that they'd never convince some people here that these people were not to blme for their situation, so i came back tongue in cheek like one of those republicans err, i mean people. Oh well. Mr2mk1g said it much better with his Cartman impression anyhow.
  16. Oh come on! These people had many years prior to this disaster in which to do something about being black and poor. They have noone to blame but themselves that they instead chose to spend that time mugging old ladies and shooting one another.
  17. See, now that *is* just being antagonistic. My advice to you would be to pack it in, because to those of us that don't personally know you, it just makes you seem like a quite nasty person, which i suspect isn't really the case.
  18. I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking its pretty tacky using this thread to antagonize Rhino.
  19. Maybe you're just misunderstanding them. When i or my friends talk about how much we've drunk at an event, as in 'you should have been there, it was carnage, we all got utterly shitfaced', we are not bragging, we are simply stating we had a fun time (or think we did, but we really can't remember).
  20. I bet you've yet to meet a terrorist too. Presumably that means they don't exist either.
  21. Shit! Maybe Holland is next on the list of nations to be regime changed. Or am I just being paranoid...
  22. Its not my (hypothetical) conumption that negatively afects others, its the fact that its illegal. I stand by what I said which is that responsible drug use (, like responsible gun use,) causes no one any problems and should be legal.
  23. There is nothing wrong with people getting drunk and having a good time as long as what they do doesn't inconvenience anyone else. Same goes for all drugs, from coffee to coke.
  24. Newspapers in no way reflect global public opinion. I shouldn't think most of the world could give a shit what the average American donated to the tsunami appeal.
