What a SHOCK!!!! A grassroots community organizing organization in favor of DEMOCRATS???? What is the world coming to? Next thing you know, the sun will come up in the east! For the MORONS among us, here is a FACT. It is a federal law that anyone who collects a voter registration form MUST turn in the form to the voter registration organization for that state. ACORN volunteers CAN NOT screen voter registration forms for fraud and discard them. They MUST be turned in. Funny that meeting a FEDERAL legal requirement is spun by the corporate media and the rescumlicans to be a "voting fraud" issue. Are you righties really that gullible? It appears so. Try becoming fully informed before you jump on the bandwagon of bullshit.

McSame used to like ACORN. Now he doesn't. Can you say "flip-flop"? Can you spell "erratic"? Scary, isn't it... begin quoted text>>> McCain was the keynote speaker at a Feb. 20, 2006 Miami rally cosponsored by Acorn to build support for a comprehensive immigration reform bill co-sponsored by McCain and Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts. The bill never passed Congress. In a statement, Bertha Lewis, chief organizer of Acorn, sharply attacked McCain, suggesting the 72-year-old senator is “erratic”—a word that Republicans believe Democratic opponents use against McCain to stir up concerns about his age. “Maybe it is out of desperation that Sen. McCain has forgotten that he was for Acorn before he was against Acorn; he was for immigration reform before he was against immigration reform; and he was a maverick before he became erratic,” Lewis said. She added, “We are surprised at his efforts to vilify an organization that, until recently, he saw as an ally. Maybe this surprise attack and change of heart is indicative of his state of mind, and the way he would govern.”

McCain tries to hide his past - and fails
funjumper101 replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
That would be correct. Well said, Vinnny. -
If this is the case, how do you explain why McSame/Caribour Barbie seem to have something 30% solid support from people who clearly must be completely ignorant of the issues? If the standard were as you describe, the R's would be in the single digits, like right at ZERO.
-
Obama/Biden is a far better choice than McSame/Caribou Barbie. The destruction wrought by the Republicans isn't going to be resolved by electing more of the same. Obama's disaster, should it occur, will be because of the same kind of daily bullshit Clinton was put through. If your kind keeps encouraging the destructive politics that have screwed up this country, we are well and totally screwed. Might as well start teaching your kids and grandkids to speak Chinese, because they're going to end up as the only superpower. You really should read the Rolling Stone story on the truth about McCain. He is a spoiled brat whose whole life has been all about selfishness and ambition. He has a volcanic temper and publicly goes off on people, including calling Cindy a cunt in front of reporters. There exists video of him going off on Phil Boyer, president of the AOPA, when McCain was trying to browbeat Boyer, and Boyer was having none of it. McCain was pretty much foaming at the mouth. This was a public senatorial hearing, and the man is such an asshole that he can't control his temper. McCain is NOT someone that you want as POTUS. He is unstable and has a terrible temper.

What data do you have to support your conclusion that there is voter fraud from both parties? All of the information I can find shows that this "problem" is statistically insignificant. What IS happening with this so called problem is that the Republicans are making a big stink about "suspected" voter fraud. Using the FUD ( fear, uncertainty, doubt) created with the cooperation of the corporate media outlets, they are implementing all kinds of obstructions to voter registrations. It all sounds good on paper, but the reality is that these solutions in search of a problem prevent people who are qualified to vote from registering. The righties do everything they can to limit the number of people voting. The fewer people vote, the more likely they win elections.
-
would you rather find out now or after it's to late? I would like to have every eligible citizen be registered to vote, however that occurs. Further, I would like to see those registered voters who are at least moderately intelligent take the time to become fully informed on the issues, carefully consider the positions of their local and national candidates, then vote for the candidates that best reflect their personal values and attitudes. Those organizations that work towards getting all eligible citizens should be commended for their efforts. The local election officials who are responsible for verifying the accuracy of voter registration forms should do their jobs. Any fraudulent forms should be investigated and those that signed the f forms should be arrested and prosecuted. I think we are on the same page with regard to the desired outcome, Where we strongly differ is the tactics used.

Under Investigaton for Saying: Hussein Obama
funjumper101 replied to rickjump1's topic in Speakers Corner
Have you watched any of the video of those people who find it amusing to say Obabma's full name, putting strong emphasis on his middle name? It is classic fear mongering sleazy tactics by the righties. If you say his name the right way, he sounds like a scary foreigner. Who want to vote for a scary foreigner, if you are a dumbass redneck? The Rescumlicans are going to get their heads handed to them on a platter on election day. With good reason. This country is in the toilet due to their policies and methods of government. Time to vote the bums out. -
Other than their PROVEN HISTORY of fraud, you mean? When was the fraud trial that produced the guilty verdict? john , if you were hit in the head with a hammer 4 or 5 times but didn't get an arrest or conviction, would you still put your head in the same spot agin? just because Obama has taught these guys about laws and how to get through the loopholes doesn't make them not guilty, just not guilty in the eyes of the law. remember OJ was found inocent would you like to be alone with him and a knife? Acorn has consistantly been involved with the law for alot of different reasons and has a reputation of going to extremes, therefore we need to be aware of their presence and question the validity of their actions. In other words, because the corporate media reports these so called nefarious dealings, they're true. Even though the trial and conviction for fraud never happened. But being ACCUSED of fraud is good enough for you. All those accusations, from all of those different sources... and no convictions of the folks who run the operations. Is it possible that the accusations are carefully coordinated Republican attacks that have no real basis in fact and are purely political in nature?
-
Other than their PROVEN HISTORY of fraud, you mean? Why isn't law enforcement working to find and prosecute those that sign the fraudulent voter registration forms? If it can be PROVEN to be ACORN staff, they should be prosecuted. If ignorant righties are deliberately handing in falsified forms, and ACORN passes along these forms, how is that ACORNs fault? The Rs are caging votes again, without any investigation or prosecution occuring. The Rs are doing everything they can to purge the voter rolls in the key battleground states. They target poor and minority neighborhoods that are likely to vote D. The Rs post reps to challenge voters in these neighborhoods. Do you righties approve of the deliberate actions designed to REDUCE the number of people voting? If so, why?
-
The Rs have stated over and over that all people should not vote. It is not in their best interests to have minority and poor people voting. Those folks tend to vote D. Did it ever occur to you that scumbag righties might have filed false voter registration forms through ACORN to try and sabotage their voter registration drives? Did it ever occur to you that the VOLUNTEERS at ACORN might not be sports fans and recognize the names of the Dallas Cowboys? Can you explain why no action was taken by the police or the FBI against those that filled out suspicious voter registration forms? ACORN gave plenty of info to the LEO community. What they received in return was a police raid. This is EXACTLY the kind of tactic that the Rs would use. Deliberately sabotage postive efforts and spin it to make the good people look bad. You righties are quite gullible. Politically motivated police raids after ACORN reported almost 50 suspicious registration forms should produce SUSPICION and SKEPTICISM, not a blanket condemnation of an honorable organization. As a final measure, do any of you righties know what the acronym ACORN stands for and what their mission is? If you think ACORN is on the wrong side, in my view that makes you an agent for all that is wrong with this country. What is wrong with running voter registrations drives? Why would that be a bad thing that must be stopped? Please explain why you think ACORN should NOT run voter registration drives.

Really? Well what has the DEMCRATIC controlled congress done in the last 22 months except make things worse? When the democratic controlled congress took the majority they "promised" "quick and meaningful changes", well I am still waiting. And don't give me this crap about Bush vetoing everything cause he has only vetoed 12 items and only one of them had an economic impact and the veto was over ridden so that means the democratic controlled congress has a 100% passage of what they have submitted. So given that fact tell me why we are not better off!!! Bush is an asshole for getting us into the war and the congress is the blame for keeping us there. If you even want to put on the gloves about the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac disaster I have only one word for you “Clinton”. And don’t get me wrong, I voted for Clinton both times and Gore too. If Clinton was able to run again I would vote for him in a heartbeat. As for our wonderful speaker of the house, please tell me all the wonderful things that Pelosi has done to help us as a country and while you are at it explain the 9% approval rating under her leadership. I personally think we are screwed whoever wins but a whole lot worse with Obama. Like I have said before the issue that does it for me is that I believe that my children and grandchildren will be safer with McCain. Try looking up filibuster, republican, record. Then look up "nuclear option" from the nineties. The Rs have successfully stymied the VERY SLIM Democratic majority, then blamed them for the lack of action. Excellent politics, on some levels. Quite an impressive disregard for the good of our country. Those that comprehend the reality of their underhanded tactics despise them, and those that support them. There are those that don't really understand what has been done, and by whom, spew a lot of vitriol related to the lack of success of the slim Democratic majority. They don't get that they are being fed a load of bullshit. It is like they are hypnotized - the bullshit tastes like the finest of meals to them. It is very odd. I have a pretty good feeling that the Democratic Majority isn't going to be slim real soon. Vote the bastards out.

where did the street interviews of the dumb amricans go?
funjumper101 replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
Look up the video of the interviews outside a high school. The interviewer is trying to get students to sign a petition to "End Womens Suffrage". A very small percentage of the students understood what the question meant and refused to sign. Most went right along with him. And it was a "Distinguished School" they were at. -
Obama and the home-grown terrorists...not just neighbors.
funjumper101 replied to piper17's topic in Speakers Corner
More of that logical thinking stuff. Screws up the righties every time. It really is easy to explain. One half of the population is of less than average intelligence. These are the people who are the Republican foundation. Too dumb to really think on their own, they parrot the talking points without any greater understanding of the big picture. Too stupid to vote in their own best interests, so they vote for those that sound good, but do nothing for them. What kind of moron would vote for a party and platform that would TAX your employers contribution towards your health insurance as "ordinary income"? What kind of moron would vote for a party and platform that wants to bring the same type of deregulation to the Medical Industry that they brought to the Banking Industry? What kind of moron would vote for a party and platform that wants to eliminate all abortions, even in the case of rape or incest? The kind of morons that support Palin/McCain, that's who. Because they really don't understand what they are voting for, but she's pretty and he was a POW. Thats all they comprehend. The Dumbasses are dragging this country down... -
Her nickname is "Caribou Barbie".

Righties sure do hate it when they are held accountable, don't they? Here is a clue - you can't knowingly broadcast lies and untruths on the public airwaves. Obama's team is simply holding the radio and TV stations accountable for the content of what they broadcast. If they have truthful advertisments, they don't have anything to worry about. If it a load of the usual right wing lies and no-truths, and they broadcast after they have been told that the content is crap, they'll be held accountable. What is the problem that righties have with accountability and following the law? Why is it bad for broadcasters to be held to the contracts they agreed to when they lease the use of the public airwaves? Marc, you never answered my questions in another thread about your travel experience. I asked if you had ever traveled around the states or if you had traveled internationally. Have you traveled? How far? As a civilian or in the military?

Pelosi's Hypocrisy: Failure to lead by example.
funjumper101 replied to piper17's topic in Speakers Corner
So, because of your explination, doing something that is illegal is OK? Do all righties have shit for brains? It seems so. Try thinking rationally for just a few moments. I highly doubt the truthfulness of the information presented. It is extremely unlikely that Pelosi would engage in a coordinated conspiracy to extract such a small amount of money from the PAC. She and her husband don't need the money... Sounds to me like typical righty mudslinging. A small fact surrounded by a boatload of bullshit. Par for the course for the righty smear machine. -
Pelosi's Hypocrisy: Failure to lead by example.
funjumper101 replied to piper17's topic in Speakers Corner
Do you have any idea how much Pelosi and her husband are worth? A hundred thou over many years is totally chump change when you have that much $$ on hand. Mudslinging sucks. Do you have anything of substance to offer? -
If you paid attention you would know that the abortion for rape victims issue was first brought up in this thread by mnealtx, not by me. www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3346984#3346984 Not that I expect you to pay attention. Maybe, as a devout Replican, you should look it up before voting for the Replicans. If that is what you are worred about (I did notice your still off topic) then the R's got you lefties beet 1000 to 1. Besides, I dont claim to be a Repulican. Never have. Now I will wait to see what other false claims you make...... So without reading the Republican platform, you are prepared to call me a liar for quoting its contents. Fascinating debating tactic. And make up your mind! Is it Replican or Repulican? Isn't it kind of mean to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed person? Just askin'

Rush, have you ever traveled around the USA at all? What states have you visited? Have you ever traveled internationally? If you have traveled internationally, was it as a civilian or as a member of the military? What countries did you visit? When was the travel, both domestic and international? Just curious.

If you could point out which parts are factually untrue, I would really appreciate it. The reality you appear to live in is very far removed from mine. It isn't a smear when you are writing the plain truth. If you can't see even a kernel of truth in the in his writings, I find that to be truly amazing. He has clearly pointed out the intense double standard applied by the mass media. That you don't like having your nose rubbed in it is TFB. He speaks the painful truth. Racism is a real, ongoing issue in the USA, like it or not. That you don't see it doesn't make not exist. The way that Palin, et al, has gotten a pass on real, concrete issues is disgusting. A real sign of fucktardedness on the part of the righties that you appear to be on board with.

Please direct me to a post where I, in my own words, called Palin trailer trash. However - if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, then...

By Barbara Koeppel The idea that Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is experienced, ethical and wise would be laughable if it weren't so alarming, and millions have fallen for the fable. In truth, the pretty woman's story is not so pretty. While a majority of Alaskans are thrilled their local beauty queen is center stage, some are horrified. Her populist persona--the "just plain hockey mom"--is preposterous, her notion of decency defective, her ambition unbridled, her compassion counterfeit, her actions extreme, her intelligence limited and her judgment flawed. Fearing retribution, only one of the more than twenty elected state and city officials, lawyers, doctors, health administrators, librarians, clergy and just plain residents I interviewed while in Alaska and over the phone agreed to be named. "It's Sarah's way or the highway," claim many who've worked with her. As one state representative confided to me, "the public doesn't know the real Sarah Palin." After elected mayor of Wasilla in 1996, one of Palin's first victims was Irl Stambaugh, the longtime police chief who opposed her NRA-backed plan to allow concealed guns. Then, too, he wanted to close the bars at 2 am, instead of 5 am, due to the high number of alcohol-related road accidents. But as the bar owners and NRA were among her base, Palin axed him. She then installed her own chief, who, besides following her line on bars and guns, slapped a charge of $300 to $1,200 on rape victims for medical tests for injuries and sexually transmitted diseases--fees previously covered by the city. Since medical staff at the same time also offered morning-after pills to rape victims, this was anathema to Palin's anti-abortion agenda. Outraged, then-Democratic Governor Tony Knowles pushed through a bill banning her tactics, and the tests were once again free. Other victims are now well known, like Mary Ellen Baker, the librarian who wouldn't ban the books that offended Palin. Originally fired along with other city department heads who backed Palin's mayoral opponent, Baker (also president of Alaska's Library Association), was reinstated because several hundred residents protested the sacking. But, according to a librarian who knows Baker, Palin met with her several times, pressuring her to remove books from the shelves--among which was Pastor, I Am Gay by Howard Bess, an American Baptist minister in Wasilla. Baker finally resigned in 1999 and moved away. The librarian friend says Baker is keeping silent: "Why wouldn't she? The period was so painful that after she left her job, she had a breakdown." Then there's Dr. Susan Lamagie, an obstetrician who practices in Wasilla and delivered Palin's first two children. She also performed abortions at what was then called Valley Hospital. While Palin was on Wasilla's City Council, members of her church, the Wasilla Assembly of God, and its minister, picketed Lamagie's office. Because the doctor held her ground, the group ousted the hospital board and installed a new one, whose first act was to ban abortions. Lamagie and Howard Bess organized a group that sued the hospital in a case that went to Alaska's Supreme Court, which ruled the hospital had to allow abortions, as before. Palin's claims that she's a cost-cutter and corruption cop are equally crazy, since she hiked the state budget by 20 percent in the less than two years since becoming governor. But it's not all smoke and mirrors: Palin did slash some funds. She vetoed $150,000 for the Fairbanks Catholic Community Counseling and Adoption Services, $3.5 million to build a daycare facility and student housing for unemployed Alaska Natives, $500,000 for the Safe Harbor Muldoon Housing for Homeless Families and People with Disabilities, and eliminated funds for the Fairbanks Community Food Bank. And in a state with one of the highest drug and alcohol rates in the United States, she killed funds for a substance abuse facility and an education and prevention program for youths in a northwest Alaska village, as well as for addiction rehabilitation services. Then there's her record on health, another alleged Palin priority. State Senator Bill Wielechowski says, "We sponsored a bill to improve children's health care, since we're forty-seventh in the US in terms of the services we offer. Had Palin supported it, the Republican-controlled House would have approved it. But she refused and the bill died." Flip-flops are another Palin specialty, though you'll hear zip from GOP fans who dissed candidate John Kerry for similar misdemeanors in 2004. There's the now well-known story of the "bridge to nowhere" (from the city of Ketchikan to the island of Gravina), that she promised Ketchikans she would back when she ran for governor in 2005. In the same year, Congress earmarked hundreds of millions for two Alaskan bridges to nowhere, but reversed itself in 2006, when the deals became a national poster for pork. However, the cash still landed in Alaska, and Palin, now wearing the maverick's mantle, says she abhors earmarks and has shunned the money. In fact, she kept the roughly $230 million and, according to officials, used it for other transport projects. Only about $50 million remains unspent. What also remains of the affair is a 3.2-mile, $25 million access road to nowhere (which would have connected to the bridge), on which construction continues. Critics also point to her unfettered drive. Until she was mayor, Wasilla and the nearby town of Palmer successfully shared a regional dispatch center located in Palmer for state troopers and emergency services in the region. Unknown to Palmer officials, she lobbied Washington for funds to build a second center in Wasilla. The Palmer "partners" learned of the move only when she announced it in the press. "It was completely redundant, said one Palmer official, "just a notch in Palin's belt." Then there's her environmental myopia. A Palmer borough assemblyman told me Palin courted development in any form, with no city planning or zoning, mainly by removing business property taxes. Thus, big box stores flocked to Wasilla and Park Highway, which runs through the town (population 4,600 when Palin became mayor), is one long strip mall; through the sales tax the stores collected, Wasilla pocketed the huge revenues Palin lusted after. Although Wasilla's city council introduced the tax before she was mayor, she raised it--and it applies to most everything except medicine. The new growth spells problems. The city's sanitation capacity is stretched since the sewage system, faulty even when built, is overwhelmed, says a former Palmer city official. Effluent is piped to the sewage plant from which it is pumped into a large field, and many residents worry the liquid is leaching into the groundwater. Thus candidate Palin's promise of a waste treatment plant evaporated in favor of a sports complex. "Sewage treatment plants aren't sexy, but hockey rinks are," said the Palmer official.

This is Your Nation on White Privilege By Tim Wise [white anti-racist activist & writer] 9/13/08 . For those who still can't grasp the concept of white privilege, or who are constantly looking for some easy-to-understand examples of it, perhaps this list will help. . White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because "every family as challenges," even as black and Latino families with similar "challenges" are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay. . White privilege is when you can call yourself a "fuckin' redneck," like Bristol Palin's boyfriend does, and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you'll "kick their fuckin' ass," and talk about how you like to "shoot shit" for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug. . White privilege is when you can attend four different colleges in six years like Sarah Palin did (one of which you basically failed out of, then returned to after making up some course work at a community college), and no one questions your intelligence or commitment to achievement, whereas a person of color who did this would be viewed as unfit for college, and probably someone who only got in in the first place because of affirmative action. . White privilege is when you can claim that being mayor of a town smaller than most medium-sized colleges, and then Governor of a state with about the same number of people as the lower fifth of the island of Manhattan, makes you ready to potentially be president, and people don't all piss on temselves with laughter, while being a black U.S. Senator, two-term state Senator, and constitutional law scholar, means you're "untested." . White privilege is being able to say that you support the words "under God" in the pledge of allegiance because "if it was good enough for the founding fathers, it's good enough for me," and not be immediately disqualified from holding office -- since, after all, the pledge was written in the late 1800s and the "under God" part wasn't added until the 1950s -- while believing that reading accused criminals and terrorists their rights (because, ya know, the Constitution, which you used to teach at a prestigious law school requires it), is a dangerous and silly idea only supported by mushy liberals. . White privilege is being able to be a gun enthusiast and not make people immediately scared of you. . White privilege is being able to have a husband who was a member of an extremist political party that wants your state to secede from the Union, and whose motto was "Alaska first," and no one questions your patriotism or that of your family, while if you're black and your spouse merely fails to come to a 9/11 memorial so she can be home with her kids on the first day of school, people immediately think she's being disrespectful. . White privilege is being able to make fun of community organizers and the work they do -- like, among other things, fight for the right of women to vote, or for civil rights, or the 8-hour workday, or an end to child labor -- and people think you're being pithy and tough, but if you merely question the experience of a small town mayor and 18-month governor with no foreign policy expertise beyond a class she took in college -- you're somehow being mean, or even sexist. . White privilege is being able to convince white women who don't even agree with you on any substantive issue to vote for you and your running mate anyway, because all of a sudden your presence on the ticket has inspired confidence in these same white women, and made them give your party a "second look." . White privilege is being able to fire people who didn't support your political campaigns and not be accused of abusing your power or being a typical politician who engages in favoritism, while being black and merely knowing some folks from the old-line political machines in Chicago means you must be corrupt. . White privilege is being able to attend churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God's punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you're just a good, church-going Christian, but if you're black and friends with a black pastor who has noted (as have Colin Powell and the U.S. Department of Defense) that terrorist attacks are often the result of U.S. foreign policy and who talks about the history of racism and its effect on black people, you're an extremist who probably hates America. . White privilege is not knowing what the Bush doctrine is when asked by a reporter, and then people get angry at the reporter for asking you such a "trick question," while being black and merely refusing to give one-word answers to the queries of Bill O'Reilly means you're dodging the question, or trying to seem overly intellectual and nuanced. . White privilege is being able to claim your experience as a POW has anything at all to do with your fitness for president, while being black and experiencing racism is, as Sarah Palin has referred to it a "light" burden. . And finally, white privilege is the only thing that could possibly allow someone to become president when he has voted with George W. Bush 90 percent of the time, even as unemployment is skyrocketing, people are losing their homes, inflation is rising, and the U.S. is increasingly isolated from world opinion, just because white voters aren't sure about that whole "change" thing. Ya know, it's just too vague and ill-defined, unlike, say, four more years of the same, which is very concrete and certain. --

Smaller words and less complex ideas are more comprehensible to the half of the population with less than average intelligence. A preaching style of delivery is more likely to make sense to those folks. Let's hope that Obama can get through to enough people to prevent the Rs having another four years. Elitist?? Damn straight. I want the best and brightest to be POTUS. Someone from humble roots who got where he is by hard work and self sacrifice. A Professor of Constitutional Law is a far better choice than a career politician whose previous major banking experience was as a key member of the Keating five.
