Funny how equal rights means different things to different people. As of this writing, in most states, a woman can get an abortion on demand if she has the cash to pay for it. She can do so without consulting with or getting approval of sperm donor. The donor can not force her to NOT get an abortion. I personally am against abortion. I saw enough irresponsible people in the seventies use it as a form of birth control. There a lot of moral issues involved as well. I am also pro-choice. It comes down to personal freedom and personal privacy. It is not my place, or society's place, to interfere with a woman's decisions on these matters. I have advised female friends that were dealing with the issue to NOT get an abortion. I have advised male friends to step up and take responsibility. Adoption or single parenthood is far preferable to abortion, for me. Ultimately they made the decisions themselves, as it should be. I fully believe in the concept of "emotional and financial abortion" for the sperm donor. If the donor decides to NOT participate in any way with the support and upbringing of the child, that is the flip side to the woman's rights described above. To me, equal rights are equal rights. Women can't have it both ways. Pro-choice should be for both parties, not just one of the two. That just isn't right.

Nice. A perfect example of Republican thinking. I spell badly because I got a shitty education from the left and I choose to do little or nothing to overcome it. It ain't MY fault. It's the lefties fault. Whine, whine , whine I thought that only lefties were allowed to blame their shortcomings on others. Righties are the ones that believe in personal responsibility. What am I missing here?

Behold the power of the Republican Propaganda Machine

What connection do you see between Ted Kennedy's drunken partying and car crash in 1969 and Tom Delay's recent actions? Think clearly now. How are they connected? Are you trying to say that one incident of criminal behavior by Ted Kennedy in 1969 is as bad or worse than Tom Delay's ongoing ethics violations? How does that excuse Delay's actions? That is the kind of reasoning that small children engage in. Stuck on stupid? Hmmm -

So, following your line of reasoning, if he was charged with a more heinous crime such as lying about a blow job, you still would have voted for him. Pushing further on your line of reasoning, if was was charged with, but had not been tried and convicted of rape, child molestation, or assault and battery, you still would have voted for him. Somehow I don't think that you would have voted the same way in the above situations. The point is, you and your kind have drastically lowered the bar as to what is considered to be acceptable behavior by elected officials. We, the people, need to hold our elected officials to the highest standards of behavior for the system to work. It was not so long ago that being charged with ethics violations was the kiss of death to a political career. An indictment absolutely ended your career. A whiff of this type of behavior got you in trouble, at the very least. That this is no longer the case should be of great concern to every responsible citizen. Are you aware that Delay has been charged with ethics violations over and over again? Here are some documented examples of Delay's actions. Is this really the type of person that you feel should represent you in the House? 1. DeLay obstructed justice for low-paid sweatshop workers on the island of Saipan by taking large campaign contributions from Saipan's chief lobbyist and blocking any Congressional investigation of the appalling conditions there. 2. DeLay obstructed justice by lying to the FBI when he charged that the reporter who broke the Henry Hyde adultery story in the 1990s had been working with the White House to expose Hyde. 3. During a deposition for a lawsuit filed by a former business partner in the pest company in 1994, DeLay lied that he had not been an officer of the company for two or three years. On congressional financial disclosure forms filed in 1995, he listed himself as chairman of the company's board of directors. 4. In 1997, DeLay actually shoved Rep. David Obey [D-Wisconsin] and called him a "chicken shit" on the House floor. That same year, DeLay tried to impeach federal judges he didn't like. 5. In 1998, DeLay said that people with "foreign-sounding names" probably aren't Americans. Here are some links that provide more info about your hero. http://www.alternet.org/story/21509/ http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/04/07/1343238 Here is a link that documents some of his earlier violations. http://www.hillnews.com/news/100704/delay.aspx Here is a link to a hilarious spoof of how the Republican Party would investigate Delay. http://www.madguerillabrigade.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=231 Your hero. A real honorable guy. You should be very proud. Just exactly how bad does he have to get before you won't vote for him any more? -
how can that kind of savvy wit be combated? that's pure poetry man... of course, you might find a few different opinions on who the morons are. I guess the historians will have the last word. I wonder what my great grandchildren will read about these times. Somehow I don't think that it is likely to be positive. There was lots of support in the USA for staying out of WWII. There was quite a lot of public support for Germany up until about 1939 or so. Prescott Bush got the family fortune going by doing business there. Look it up. Does history look kindly on the isolationists?

Behold the power of the Republican Propaganda Machine

You voted for Delay? You must be a true red Republican. Trivial issues like ethics and corruption mean nothing to you. Those issues are for the little people. Real Republicans would never find anything shameful about such trivial issues. Unless it involves a Democrat. Then ethics and corruption become important issues. We, the people, need to DEMAND that our elected leaders be held accountable for their actions. When you vote for someone like Delay you are HURTING our country. You should be ashamed of yourself. People like you are the ones allowing our country to go down the toilet. -
Quoting the New York Post as a credible source of information? You have got to be kidding us. Have you ever read a copy? You might as well quote the National Enquirer. You know, that quality weekly publication available at supermarket checkstands everywhere in the US. That is really pathetic. The article was more for the author than the paper. I suppose a quality paper is that other Washington Paper huh? I have come to realize that any conservative outlet in non credible to most lefties on this site.... enjoying those who are "stuck on stupid".... The New York Post is a Washington newspaper? Well, golly, I learn something new every day from these brilliant righties. Your sig line seems to indicate that you really enjoy yourself and the others who think like you do. Cool. I like self deprecating humor.

The USA going down the toilet at the hands of a Republican President and a Republican majority in the House and the Senate. The Republican Party. You know, the party of fiscal responsibility, small government, and personal freedom. (NOT) The ones who have increased the budget surplus they inherited. (NOT) The ones that have expanded civil liberties. (NOT) The ones that improved the public schools. (NOT) The ones that correctly interpreted and acted upon intelligence received prior to 9/11/2001. (NOT) The ones that correctly interpreted and acted upon intelligence received after 9/11/2001. (NOT) How exactly have the Republicans successfully governed the USA in the past six years? Maybe Rushmc, Trent, and Anvil could clue us in. Specific examples would be appreciated. I'll start. There have been no terrorist attacks on US soil since 2001. Surely this is due to the extreme compentency of the Republicans.

begin quoted text >>> What Really Happened by Cindy Sheehan March 8, 2006 Yesterday started off like any other day for me. I woke up, missing Casey and wondering where in the world I was. After I got my bearings, realizing I was in my friend's apartment in NYC, I got up for my day of meetings, speeches, marches and rallies. March 8th is International Women's Day and I was in NYC with a contingent of women from Code Pink, Gold Star Families for Peace, Global Exchange, and some brave Iraqi women to work on our women's global call for peace. (www.womensaynotowar.org) We began our day with a meeting with Koffi Annan's assistant Secretary General for Gender. We asked her to get a meeting with the Iraqi women and the Security Council. She said we couldn't get a meeting until October at the earliest! I was appalled because a few of us had just been at UNIFEM in September, meeting with the head of UNIFEM who said if we got a contingent of Iraqi women to the states for International Women's Day that she would make sure we could meet with the security council. October is also far too late: people are dying in Iraq everyday on all sides as we sit around waiting for meetings and for people to do their jobs. We had 2 press conferences: one inside the UN and one out. After the outside press conference, where the Iraqi women beautifully, poignantly and touchingly told their stories, and where we called on the UN to do their jobs as peacekeepers, we marched with our petition to the US Mission to the UN. We had a poster sized petition that has been signed by tens of thousands of women from 78 states from around the world. Our Women Say No to War petition calls for an immediate withdrawal of coalition troops from Iraq. We were chanting as we made our way the few blocks to the US Mission. We had a Community Services officer walking with us. As we neared within a half of John Bolton's office, the officer told us to cross the street and wait on the public sidewalk across from the mission! I go all over the country and the world, now, saying that it is our responsibility as peace people to peacefully stand up to fascism and suppression of our 1 st Amendment rights whenever and wherever it raises its ugly head. As a matter of fact, I believe that to halt the incredible spread of the creeping fascism and abuse of our civil rights in the country, we are going to need non-violent, civil resistance on a massive scale. When the officer told us to leave one public sidewalk and cross the street and wait like good Americans on the other, we refused. I told him under no uncertain terms that this is America and we had as much right to be on the public sidewalk on the US Mission side of the street as he did. He said that we couldn't walk down the street carrying signs—a clear violation of our First Amendment rights to Freedom of Speech and to Peaceably Assemble. We only wanted to deliver our petition, which we had an appointment to do. Since we didn't want to get arrested and our goal is stopping a disastrous war and saving American and Iraq lives, we agreed that a few of us would proceed forward with the petition and as soon as it was delivered we assured the officer that we would leave. Four of us, Medea Benjamin, Rev. Patty Ackerman, Sereya , and I separated from the rest of the group to take our petition up to Bolton's office. At this point, Sereya, a Kurdish woman, from Kirkuk, who lives in the US now, told us that she had been "punched" in the stomach by the very same "Community" service officer that had escorted us from the rally to the US Mission! She noted how ironic it is that George Bush says he is spreading freedom and democracy to Iraq and citizens of his own country, that oppose his policies, can't even walk down the street without being harassed by the police. This is just one example of the hypocrisy and duplicity that reign today in BushWorld. Our small group of peaceful women were stopped and told that we couldn't go up with the petition to Bolton's office. We were told that they would send someone down to get it. After many minutes, we were told that our petition would not be accepted. By that time, we had been joined by the other Americans who marched with us who also demand peace. When we were told that our petition wouldn't be accepted we decided that we had an appointment and this was OUR Ambassador to the UN (whether we like it or not—and believe me we don't) and we were going to take our petition up. We had been assured earlier that we had an appointment to deliver the petition by Peggy Kerry who is the older sister of Senator John Kerry and liaison to NGO's. Medea's company, Global Exchange, is a recognized NGO. As we walked up to the doors of the building, security guards were frantically scrambling to lock the doors against us dangerous women. There were 3 regular doors and 2 revolving doors. As one door was locked, we moved to the next door until we ran out of doors and were backed into a corner. That was when NYC's finest went on the attack and forced most of our group and all of the journalists (does anyone remember when our country had Freedom of the Press) out to the sidewalk. The four of us who got arrested sat down in the corner with our petition and refused to move. We were told if we moved across the street onto the other public sidewalk that our petition would be received. We refused and said we would go to the nearest public sidewalk in front of the building and we would give our petition to a representative of the US Mission—that request was refused. We were told if we didn't move to the other side of the street, we would be arrested. We refused to move. We had an appointment to deliver the petition. We would have been willing to give the petition to anyone to take up the US Mission. However, we were not willing to give up our First Amendment rights to do so. Some principles cannot be compromised. After we sat on the cold, hard concrete, and after we had been assured that the Iraqi women were safely on their way to DC—we tried to negotiate with the officers and security agents of the building for someone to take our petition and we would leave. A security agent for the Mission said he would go ask if he could bring the petition up and he came back and told us that they would not receive our petition which is another clear violation of our First Amendment right to petition our government for redress of wrong. At no time were we told that we could come in and deliver the petition once we were near the Mission—and we did not refuse because the media could not go in. This is another out and out lie from a government that is steeped in falsehood and calumny. Also, if they were inviting us up to deliver the petition, why did they lock the doors and send a platoon of police officers to stop us? Another bald-faced lie is the lie that we were blocking the entrances to the building. There were 5 entrances and there were four of us women sitting in front of a window. Even if there were only four entrances we couldn't block them. The people who locked us out were the ones who denied people access to THAT entrance. There is another entrance around the street that people were being directed to. One of our charges was "Obstructing Governmental Administration" and although we believe that we, and everyone in this country and abroad should obstruct Bush's administration, four of us sitting on ice cold pavement were not PHYSICALLY doing so at that moment. After our request to have the petition taken up by anybody was denied, we went up to the supporters of peace and non-violence and the media and we began to read the petition. I would read a part, then the crowd would repeat. I got about half way through the petition when we were again attacked by the NYPD. The officers were being really rough on us and we four women, Missy Beattie, Medea, Rev. Patty and I sat down to avoid being hurt. We locked arms (except for Missy who was holding a banner). Missy was picked up first, then an officer grabbed my right arm and dragged me about 15 feet along the pavement. The pain in my arm was unbearable. As soon as I could I got in a fetal position and screamed, "Leave me alone you're hurting me!" The officer then jerked my right arm up and cuffed me then pulled me up by my arm and cuffed the other arm. As I lay here in bed, barely able to move, writing this I am again filled with rage and sorrow for my country. What scares me the most is how blatant and rough the people who are supposed to protect US are in the face of cameras and other citizens. It is as if they don't care who in the world witnesses their abuses. They are not afraid of being brutal for the world to see—they are not afraid of any sort of retribution. I am looking into filing charges against the NYPD. Again and again, we must resist the fascism and abuses that we are allowing to become standard operating procedures in this country. I will be writing about our night in jail soon—the entire experience was horrible, but I will do it again if they try to stop me from exercising my Freedom of Speech and other First Amendment rights again and I wouldn't trade or won't forget my night in NYC jails, ever. It was quite an education.

I don't find you particularly witty or challenging, either. I find you to be ignorant and lazy. A bad combination. Look up the words "ignorant" and "lazy" in the dictionary if you don't understand what I mean. Start doing the research, keep an open mind, and come back with your findings. You started the thread. It is your stage. Have at it. I may or not respond. Don't confuse me with the facts. My mind is made up. The new right wing mantra.

no, my dear rocket scientist. you wanted a thread for this topic and i started it. you may begin your rant at any time OR dispute already presented opinions to the entertainment of those of us who got over this 2 years ago. You know very little about rocket science to try to use "rocket scientist" as an insult. Speaking of rocket scientists, you don't follow written instructions very well, do you? What part did you miss? Most people would be able to read and understand what I wrote. You didn't. Why is that? Here is the entire challenge as written in another thread - begin quoted text >>> Here is a hint. Do a google search. Try "2000 florida election" and "2004 Ohio election". There is plenty of info out there. Let us know what you find. Start a new thread on your findings. It will be a lot of fun.

Maybe. Maybe not. It depends on the outcome of the November elections.
-
the only thing missing from your post was the "i double dog dare you". So your answer to my question is "too much work". Why am I not surprised?

You started the thread. Do the research yourself. I gave you a really easy starting point. Does it seem like too much work? Or are you afraid of what you might find?

I've seen more of Cyndi on the news than I have of Pat Robertson. Why is that? And it isn't JUST about Cyndi... look at the protests in NY during the RNC, Seattle, and just about anywhere the left can pay to get enough of their protestors in one place. Is that more reasonable than having a commentary on a tv show or radio, or selling tickets to an arena where you talk only to your followers? Really? Here, I'll quote this again... for all of you... Is this the kind of rationale you support in your "heroes" from the left? Think about it. Cindy Sheehan and her followers are a threat to ShrubCo. The "liberal media" will give her all of the coverage they can come up with that makes her look bad. Pat Roberson depends of the ignorance and money of people who are "all messed up on the lord" and spews hate filled rants that support ShrubCo. What happens is the supporters of ShrubCo get a few moments of coverage when they say really stupid things. In a day or two, the coverage goes away. Ongoing negative coverage of ShrubCo opponents happens constantly. Why? If the "Liberal Media" can marginalize and trivialize the opposition, the sheeple will will think that the opposition is unimportant. That is the explanation of why you see more on one than the other. Cheech and Chong ~1975 - "I used to be all messed up on drugs. Now I'm all messed up on the Lord". A classic line for those of us who lived through the era of "Jesus Freaks".

Some states are trying to pass legislations so it would be illegal to protest at funerals. j I have to sign a loyalty oath and undergo an inspection of my clothes to attend a "public event" where the current US president is to appear. If I choose to participate in a protest on US soil, against the current US president, I am restricted to "free speech zones" far, far away from the venue where the event is being held. I can't just protest willy nilly. That would be unamerikan. We wouldn't want the president to actually see and hear any protestors, now would we? It might make him feel bad. Setting up "free speech zones" for military funerals sounds like a really good plan. Two to three miles away is good enough for Shrub. It should be enough for the dead people's families.

Is this the kind of rationale you support in your "heroes" from the left? Think about it. The story presented here as "facts" conflicts with other reports I have read and heard. Was Grennell under oath when he said this? I didn't think so. Given the outright lies and mis-statements from official government spokepeople recently, why is Grennell at all credible?
-
Hahahaha, so you picked on tv and radio opinion show hosts? Do you see them rioting in the streets at "peace" protests? Do you see them acting like fools laying on doorsteps just to get the cameras on them and refusing to talk to the people they're protesting? Really, if you equate their behavior to this woman's... we can't have this discussion. It's stunning that you can't see the fact that the leftie protests and protestors get wildly childish and out of hand while you don't really see too much of that from the righties... even most of the loonies. Wow, I must have missed the news!!! Just when did "rioting in the streets at "peace" protests" take place in the USA in this century? Look up the term "civil disobedience". Try a dictionary or wikipedia. It isn't really that hard a concept. If you had been around in 1948 you would have nice things to say about Mahatma Gandhi. I'll bet you would have been right there with Martin Luther King and the other leaders of the civil rights movement if you could have. I don't "equate their behavior to this woman's". Their behavior is much worse for this country, hands down. It is stunning that you can't see the fact that the news clips you watch on Faux news are carefully edited to make the protestors look bad. Did you happen to catch any of the footage of the counter protestors outside the Bush ranch in August? You know, the right wing wackjobs? Probably not. None of the "liberal media" covered them much, if at all. The footage I have seen makes the lefties look rather tame in comparison. Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up!! is the right wing mantra nowadays.

What was illegal about the 2004 election? Or are you still whining about the 200 election? Don't know much about either election, do you? Whining? No, just stating facts. Here is a hint. Do a google search. Try "2000 florida election" and "2004 Ohio election". There is plenty of info out there. Let us know what you find. Start a new thread on your findings. It will be a lot of fun.

I've had to explain this to people before, so don't feel too bad. Because I say something about 1 person, side, position, etc... it DOES NOT IMPLY the opposite of what I've said is true for the "other" side. But I know you just wanted to post something. But now that you mention it... how many rightie wackjobs do you see acting as foolishly as the leftie wackjobs? Does the name "Rush Limbaugh" ring a bell? How about Bill O'Reilly? Sean Hannity? These people are definitely "rightie wackjobs". Hypocritical assholes, too. People listen to them regularly. There are even people who believe that they tell the truth. These and their ilk have done far more damage to the USA than Cindy Sheehan.

Protesting a premeditated war of agression by an illegally elected government via trespassing is not a capital offense. If anything, Shrub, Rummy, and that whole crew deserve the death penalty for the deaths of tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians in the invasion and occupation of Iraq. When the people of the USA take back their government, they may be held accountable for their actions. We can only hope... Support the troops. Elect the Iraq war veterans that are running for office in 2006.

It is my opinion that peer pressure should be applied by the biker gangs and hopefully some of the veterans groups to stop these people. If it takes a few good ass-kickings by the bikers or veterans to stop these assholes, I am all for it. If the bikers or veterans end up in court they can use the defense "justifiable ass-kicking". Put reasonable and intelligent people on the jury and they'll walk. Sometimes it is justifiable to break the law. Recent activities by the current administration have shown this to be true. We might as well follow their lead. After all, if it is OK for them, it should be OK for us, right?
