  1. I just got a rig with an Argus included (almost new)...when I try to switch it on (have to press the button for a while to turn it on), I get the HELLO display, then the flashing EYE, then immediately GOODBYE... Can anyone with an Argus AAD advise on what I am doing wrong?? (I have found the on-line manual and thought I was following the instructions but I guess I must be doing something wrong) Thanks *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... 2. ***************************************** In Kolomna, near Moscow, they use Mi8 helicopters in the summer - goes to 13k as quick as a turbolet - I have seen loads of tandems from them. And for fun jumpers it was around $10-$15 a jump last year I think *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  3. __________________________________________________ Please let us know how you got on. My experience was that what I was told by the DZ about chances of jumping were not realistic - I spent the $100+ dollars each way to get to the DZ then could not get on a load (or more specifically was bumped off loads to let tandems go - the plane went up with TI, Tandem Student and camera - they did not let a solo jumper on). I did not get to jump before I got too hot / tired of waiting and gave up with no realistic chance of getting in the air, despite being there for several hours. I know that is how the smaller DZs make money but it is very frustrating after being told that there would be no problem making several jumps on the day I went and on that basis taking my rig from the UK, spending the dollars on taxis etc. I have since been back to Dubai but did not bother going to the DZ - once bitten etc.. Good luck, and I hope things have changed. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  4. The same applies to the one DZ in United Arab Emirates - the facilities per the website (and annoyingly, as described on the phone) were not correct in repect of the aircraft that they had operational when I visited a year or so ago (one cessna that would only take pilot plus 3 passengers) *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... 5. Remember me is never clicked Session is always killed and I have experienced this on a number of different computers - history file always shows email headers etc... *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  6. Freeflying at 44 jumps?? Wow !! Glad you are ok... *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  7. _________________________________________________ If I went to a DZ advertising a boogie with 4 / 5 planes and got only 11 jumps in 2 weekends, I would think very carefully before going back (assuming weather was jumpable on all 4 days). I don't think you are being greedy at all.. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  8. ****************************************** I have jumped through loads of clouds (on maybe 100 jumps in UK, South Africa, Russia - the first 2 countries require you to see the DZ before exit) and have never got drenched. Worst thing is clouds with hail in them. Hurts like hell. (Or maybe if you have to open in clouds and not everyone on the load knows to make right hand turns until clear of cloud base.) *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... 9. I must have been to Almaty about 5-6 times - I have seen some references to skydiving but have never found an active dropzone. Good luck. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  10. Jo'burg skydiving club (based at Carletonville) is very well organised and worth a look. I have been there a few times and the organisers are great at getting visitors onto loads with the minimum of fuss. I can't remember what the weather is like in May though.. - I am sure someone from JSC will provide you with the informaiton you need. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... 11. I have jumped there (not often) - no oxygen for 15k and I am pretty sure the speed of the plane to 18k is such that no oxygen is required for those jumps either. Regular jumps would be no problem - when I was last there the whole load had to agree to the extra altitude (cost a few bucks more I think).. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... 12. [At Kolomna DZ I know of a girl who is 10 years old. SHe has 100 tandem jumps. ===================================== She is 11 or 12 now - at Kolomna there are videos of her in head down during Tandems... At Jo'hannesburg my son did a tandem aged 6 The pic looks real enough to me! *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  13. US 'D' licence requirements = 500 jumps? United Arab Emirates = 200 jumps? UK = 1,000 jumps Manbe it would be nice if there was global consistency in jump numbers and other requirements *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  14. I have not searched to see if this has already been reported / discussed, but use of the Internet Explorer 'History' option can show at least your mail inbox - I have not tried to see whether the contents of your mails can be read in this way..... Pretty poor security IMO *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  15. _________________________________________________ I just had my second chop (in Russia) - shop has no handles so held onto both ($145 saving by your calcs) - and only $32 for repack - within an hour - can't be bad.. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... 16. ps - kempinski hotel in moscow is great but not cheap (cost me $1400 dollars a night for a suite in 2002). right next to red square. and can cost a shed load of dosh for a taxi.. been asked for $200 for a five minute taxi ride in moscow. top tip = look like a local or have one with u *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... 17. about 18 of us from hinton-ish heading out on friday / saturday for 2 weeks. shop rocks if you can communicate with the locals. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  18. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I agree - but the trouble is many get away with it, get some advantage for their team. And the rules requiring a yellow card for 'diving' are not always enforced, so there is every incentive to dive and try for a free kick or penalty.. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... 19. where does the time go... :) Should have paid more attention to the dates.. just saw the recent posts *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  20. I have flown with Transaero - I was in economy and had much more than 5k as hand luggage (not sure what the limit was though) - no problems. But I travel a lot and find that rules tend to be enforced if the plane is very busy. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  21. If you get a chance try to make it to JSC in Carletonsville near Jo'burg. Open weekends (last time I was there), Porter to 11k (5.5 ASL), nice bunch of people. Worth a look if u get time *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  22. Hi - I went there a couple of years ago. It was some time in the summer and I only went for one day, but it was too windy to jump in the morning. I think at that time of year it was fairly typical I speak very limited French, but there were some great english speakers. Everyone was very helpful and I had a great time. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  23. As a Brit, not familiar with cat D, can someone explain what a Cat D jump is. Just being nosey I guess. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless... I can be used as a bad example
  24. If you want to travel, there are some options... My son did a tandam in Jo'burg aged 6 (tandem master took his son on his first jump aged
  25. I might have misunderstood the purpose of this forum but the description on the main page suggests to me that this is a valid post about his experience at the dz (although I would also add it to review of the dz)... just my view. *********************************************** I'm NOT totally useless...
