  1. I agree this way is not working and i’m so tired of hearing about more killings everyday. I was a school resource officer the day after the Parkland FL massacre. One of my Marine buddies son was in Stoneman Douglas Highschool during the shooting it was an absolute nightmare. I wish you well also my friend i love a spirited discussion. I’m planning my next jump. After my first jump i had to have quadruple bypass surgery and my chest is almost healed up enough to jump again.
  2. No im not missing dead children. I have seen more than most people. So the teens being killed by guns kinda backs up what i said earlier about gang related deaths being such a large portion of murders in the US. The advocating isn’t going great. Unfortunately training is very expensive and time consuming. My group ( law enforcement) are actually some of the worst to convince they need more training on their own outside the dept. I have gotten a few interested in competition shooting which helps immensely.
  3. Against any form of regulation? Have you seen any of the regulations already imposed by the Federal Government alone? The Brady handgun violence prevention act, Firearms owners protection act, Gun control act of 1968, Bipartisan Safer Communities act, Gun Free school zone of 1990, National Firearms Act, NICS Improvements Act, Undetectable firearms act, There are many more. You cannot purchase a handgun if you are under 21. You cannot purchase a gun if you are addicted to drugs or alcohol, are a convicted felon, if you have been adjudicated as mentally ill, if you have been convicted of Domestic violence, If you are an illegal alien. We have also had assault weapons bans in the past which was actually in effect when the Columbine Massacre occurred. So the notion that guns are not already regulated in the US is laughable.
  4. What makes no sense? A guy telling gun owners they need to invest their own time and money in training how to survive a violent attack. Also I think what i stated is more than anecdotal. Gang murders make up around 13% of homicides in the US and suicides make up around 55% of all gun deaths. Just those two categories make up a big portion of gun deaths in the US. Or am i missing something.
  5. Oh you will not find a bigger advocate than me that people should receive training and practice that training regularly if you plan on carrying guns. I simply don’t want the government to require it to purchase a gun. Just curious can you carry a concealed pistol in the area where you live? I live in South Carolina. A huge part of the population own and carry guns. Being a police officer for 30 years taught me if you are not suicidal and if you stay away from know gang areas the odds of getting in a shooting drop astronomically. The overwhelming deaths by firearms in the US are suicides and gang shootings in government housing projects in larger cities. I in no way ever suggested you could fight off a military attack with an AR-15.
  6. I don’t understand your point i could be protected by those same military weapons if the conditions presented itself. I’m referring to the capital police and secret service that are assigned to protect people in congress. They carry the weapons most commonly referenced in assault weapons bans yet the most outspoken lawmakers that are anti gun are surround by them. An example if your house were being broken into and you were to call the capital police to protect you like they do members of congress what do you think their response time would be?
  7. I’m not really sure what you are asking. Since the population has increased in Australia and the homicides have went from around 400 a year to around 250 do i think that is a success in Australia? Sure. Do i think the US should adopt something similar absolutely not. I have no interest in a lawmaker from DC who is guarded by the very weapons they want to ban telling me what type of gun i should be allowed to own and carry.
  8. What advantage other than more gun control would anther NFA have?
  9. I strongly disagree with any government database to track guns. Any type of license be required to purchase guns other than ID to prove age. I agree with background checks when you purchase a gun and training requirements to get a concealed carry permit. I’m probably almost polar opposite of these suggestions. I belive the general public should be able to obtain and keep light infantry weaponry like fully automatic machine guns, SAW, 240s, after background checks. The point of the second amendment is to be able to fight a government that turned tyrannical. In order to do that the general population should have similar weapons.
  10. Fair points but it’s still an apples and oranges type comparison. Demographics, cultures, populations ect are worlds apart. Comparing the US with a country that roughly averaged 400 homicides at the time of the biggest massacre in their history is not a good comparison.
  11. There is so much here let me start with one issue. Magazine capacity. Can you cite any study that has been done with magazine capacity? I belive the San Bernardino shooters had lower capacity magazines and they were very proficient in killing people. Where did you get the five round idea. Is it just a random number? You do realize over half of all violent attacks there are more than one attacker? Why would you want to limit the amount of rounds someone would use to protect themselfs?
  12. I have many close friends and family who are completely anti gun. I have tried to take them shooting or even dry practice just to famierize them with the functioning of common guns ( G19 and AR15) they wanted nothing to do with it and that’s completely cool. One of my best friends who i was a motorcycle officer with for years was murdered by a crazy, drunk solider years ago in GA on a traffic stop. That still didn’t change my stance on magazine capacity and assault weapons bans. I appreciate everyone’s views and opinions.
  13. I like a lot of it. I have no problem requiring training to get a concealed carry permit but strongly disagree with a training requirement for any purchase of a gun. I’m all for background checks as long as they are able to be carried out quickly. I’m strongly against any type of gun registry. Big fan of waiting period ( 1 week) I have worked many domestic violence murders that this may have helped. Strongly against magazine restrictions or assault weapons ban of any type. I’m from SC so it’s a pretty good bet most of the people i pulled over had guns on them or in thier vehicle. It didn’t really worry me much. When someone told me they had a gun on a traffic stop i usually said the same thing you leave yours where it is i’ll leave mine where it is. As far as schools private schools can do what they want. Public schools should have a highly trained in shape officer 1 per 300 kids. Strongly against teachers carrying guns. I would rather have more uniformed officers. Meat eaters not retired on duty slugs.
  14. Paranoid? Just curious have you ever been in a gun fight or a violent attack? Anyone i know who has been attacked by a violent person would probably disagree that its being paranoid carrying a gun.
  15. The reason I ask is i hear comments all the time about people being concerned about the safety of kids in schools and how more regulations are needed ect. I simply suggest to people that have that much passion for the safety of kids is do something about it. Go get hired with a police dept go through training then become a school resource officer and actually protect them. I in no way want everyone carrying a gun. I’m a retired police officer of 30 years and there are police i don’t want to have guns much less many people in the general public. . I want shooters to take it on themselves to get more training not the government requiring it. I am new here and just started skydiving the day after my retirement in May.
  16. Is it selfish to carry a gun concealed to protect myself and others around me incase a violent act occurs in my presence or to me?
  17. I’m glad you feel no need to carry a gun I in no way want anyone to keep you from doing exactly that. I just want the same no one trying to keep my from concealed carrying wherever i want. You mentioned high school students. Have you ever put on boots, kevlar, and a uniform to protect them?
  18. Ok so the guy who has investigated, arrested and prosecuted countless gun crimes. Is very familiar with how criminal buy sell and obtain guns and usually from where and obviously very familiar with guns and their functions. Been through countless classes on mass shootings is the least qualified to have an opinion?
  19. I have trained with guns extensively for the last 30 years and trained others ( 30 years as a police officer and US Marine before that). SWAT teams CQB, competition shooting, long range shooting, lots of active shooter training. I have no idea what QED is or has to do with shooting or data gathering about shootings.
  20. Gun homicides reduced yes. If you just look at the 2023 murder rates there were more murders in 2023 than in 1996 when the Port Arthur massacre happened. People are simpler using other weapons. Also it’s not a good comparison between the US and Australia. Australia is averaging around 400 homicides a year. The cultures, population, demographics do not lead to a good comparison.
  21. If you lessened the hyperbole statements it would be easier to take you seriously. So how much would say banning scary guns ( assault weapons) reduce the death and mayhem? Also have you ever trained with said killing machines?
  22. I’m a gun guy. I guess my question to those that want more restrictions is what specially do you want. I’m all for background checks for gun purchases. I’m completely against magazine restrictions , bans on semi automatic magazine fed rifles ect. I was a uniformed police officer for 30 years and have investigated countless murders, suicides, assaults with guns. There were already laws against the actions i listed except suicide. I don’t know what good more laws would do I do like having civil discussions about this with people with different opinions to see if any common ground can be found.
  23. Oh i think it’s probable.
  24. I’m trying to understand. If Trump was responsible for all the gear being left behind, the bombing at Kabul airport, all the civilians left behind, the drone strike on the civilian family. What was Biden’s responsibility during the withdrawal? Or is it anything bad is Trumps fault and if anything went good it’s Biden’s fault? That’s what it sounds like. It must be a great job that you are the boss yet when something goes wrong it’s someone else’s fault. To be fair Trump does that as well. Neither show any type of actual leadership qualities.
