I'll be there too! They will also be doing "HALO" jumps from 22 K ... The inverted Pitts and helicopter is a MUST! Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!

Bummer as this nice and fast jump platform seems to have faded out of the skydiving community. Has anyone heard about the Perris Jet? Or did fuel costs / politics moth-ball it indefinitely? Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!

Soaring With Low-Wing Loading?
cdcollura replied to cdcollura's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Good day all, I am wondering how much soaring has been attempted for canopies that are NOT intended to be soared (not para-gliding)? On May 2, 2009 in Clewiston, FL I was waiting for a 190 rig I usually jump there to be packed (rental rig). After several loads waiting, it was not ready so I reluctantly (eager to get in the air) tried a huge 340 SQ Foot canopy (I weight in at 185 Lbs)! Jump was normal, until about 3,000 feet where I opened softly. It was late afternoon, with nearly 90 degrees at ground level and lots of thermals off the lake-breeze boundary. You could not mistake the rising air and actually FELT the lift - And decided to USE IT for extra (free) air-time, until my legs got tired! To get to the ground from 3,000 feet took well over 11 minutes (normally, with the 190, I am on the ground in about 2). The data (annotated, from Alti-Track) for two examples, including the 190 data and soaring under the 340 Sq Ft canopy, are below... 190 SF example, no thermals, cool day - http://www.sky-chaser.com/data/misc/can190sf.jpg 340 SF example, thermals, hot spring day - http://www.sky-chaser.com/data/misc/can340sf.jpg Thanks, and wondering if any one else has intentially tried to "soar" large canopies after a great skydive? Good day all, The boogie event was awesome ... And I thank everyone who attended and those at Air Adventures who helped make it happen! I was one of those who took a spin in the L-39, and you can see video of it at the link provided below... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvrCetZVofc Enjoy and blue skies! Fly High ... I wrote a review on this place in the good old days (around 2007 to 2009), when you can show up and they tried their best to get you in the air ... With 18k to 19k jump altitudes and a King Air rocket ship that got you up to that FL in 6 mins! Now it's the dark days of 2014 ... I went there twice and was told there was no rental gear available for out of town (unless you are AFF or tandem), and was simply turned away on a busy Saturday under flawless blue skies. In 2014 I made the smart decision of calling this time ahead and was told NO GEAR RENTALS to any visiting jumpers, regardless of experience. So if you are experienced, BRING your OWN gear!! I was told this was a "policy" they did since 2011. What a way to ruin something that was so good and a must everytime I visited N California.

I would have to say that I really enjoy jumping at this drop zone. Weekends are best, and yes, they cater to tandems as that is their largest source of income, as it is a business after all. With that said, their aircraft is a very quick ride to altitude (King Air). Often they do 18 K, but if they don't your gonna get 15-16 K anyway! I have not had any bad experiences here with attitude, or maybe that's just me.

This place is a fantastic place, whether you are a student or experienced jumper. Great aircraft, lots of events during their busy season (winter), and great people. The only down side I got with them was that I rent gear and was told I could not do so anymore there for "specialty jumps", particularly their hi alt loads they do there several times a year. For gear, bot the gear shop and DZ were very un-cooperative with that. I used to do those hi alt loads frequently, until they yanked the "gear rental" for them. For specialty jumps ... Bring your OWN gear - Period!

Good day all, Summerfest was (and always was) a fantastic skydiving event! I figured I'd post some skydiving footage, P.O.V from the Pitts ... Link below! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE7Y8YXy-bM&feature=user Incredible job and good times thanks to the staff at SDC and all those who went ad made it even better! Fly High ... Good day all, I could care less about cost. If the Jet costed $100 USD to jump, and it goes to $200 ... For a once in a while experience, I'll still proudly pay it. I paid $17 USD for a jump ticket a year ago, now it's $25. Hell, my car costed $20 to fill it up a year ago and now it's $45 ... Inflation, eat it (everyone else is). Support your DZ and specialty jumps / aircraft ;-) Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!

I may be in Perris on July 3-6. I see nothing about a jet in the up-coming events ;-( I just paid $4.19 per gallon of gas this morning. Also, the airshow in Ft Lauderdale, FL was cancelled this year, after 11 years every-year, because of - you guessed it - Price of fuel and the "economy". Now, probably the DC-9 will be no more ... Thanks to aall in both congress and the middle east ;-( I hope it's only down for "maintenance". Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!

WFFC asking -- would you go to WFFC 2008?
cdcollura replied to chango's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Good day all, WFFC - Cancelled as of 2008 - Again ;-( Announced on March 10, 2008. More info: www.freefall.com Alternatives... The "Unconventional" Boogie (Perris) Summerfest (SD Chicago) Skyfest (SC) And much more... Fly High ... Don't "Get High"! -
If you are a first-time jumper or experienced fun-jumper, this place is for you. Constant flux of aircraft, such as a new and fast super-otter (winter 2008) with a great staff and crowd each weekend. Events, especially the everglades boogie (Jan 2008) were awesome. New Flight Briefing Office and skydiving center with internet access. Low prices. Go fast, be safe, and have fun!

This place is great for your first jump, especially tandem, and that's what it essentially is, a "tandem factory". As an experienced fun jumper I make the extra trip to Air Adventures (Clewiston). SD Miami is rather expensive and the staff can be rude at times. Loads are often backed-up with long waits to get on. The attitude and click-iness can be attributed to the location (near Miami). For first-time jumpers / tourists, you WILL be treated like a king. Fun jumpers and experienced groups should go elsewhere.

Good day... Yeah ... That hangar was PACKED! I was jumping over lots of lines ;-) Awesome turn-out and all that, I have never seen such a big event at SD AA. Skyvan, UH-1 Huey, 3 Otters, Balloons ... Even if you did not jump - Aerobatics (in an Extra 300 or, for the really daring, an L-39 jet)! Something for eveyone, good food, people, and beer too... Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!
-
Strange ... I jump there frequently. Never have I seen anyone go to 17,000' there. They have either a Caravan (routinely) or Otter (only on special occasions) and the most I EVER went to was 14,500'. Must have been something with equipment, a skydiver-hating pilot wanting to start "something", a hoax, or all of the above? Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!

Good evening, Thanks ... That is a valid link and points to the new DZ, which is at Tamiami Airport. I have to check them out one of these days... Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!

Good day all, Checking their site clearly states it's a "1-800sky-ride" site. Also, their address is right smack in metro Miami-Dade (9800 NW 29th Ct. Miami, FL 33147) which may be their office or something. I would love to see how one may jump thriugh enhanced class-B airpsace between FLL and MIA ;-) Close to my house, though! Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!

This event shoud by HOT... Count me in - See you all there August 4 and 5 ;-) Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!

Yup ... I heard the sad news too. I had one oportunity to go to WFFC, that was 2006, and I did, and promised I would go each year... I had big plans for the WFFC 2007 this year, but now, after hearing this, quite bummed - But not as bummed as I would have been if I missed WFFC 2006 last year! This is why my momma always told me - You see any opportunity, grab it while you can! I am sure something else would come up, either a bigger boogie somewhere else, or "extras" at boogies all through the summer at various DZ's, or maybe, another "version" of WFFC put together by people just like "us"! Hey Guys, I was the crazy man who donated 2 grand to help charity and recieve the extra adrenaline of flying with Don in the L-39 ... You only live once! It is the most wild experience that I will NEVER be able to describe in words. I did post a few pictures, as I did have my handy cell phone camera, despite struggling to hold it up before blacking out in a 6-7 G turn! Also, doing a low pass going nearly 350 Knots (roughly 403 MPH) at about 15 feet above the ground was pretty sweet too... Also, GREAT job to ANYONE who did such a fantastic effort to make WFFC 2006 complete with the DC-9 jet airliner. When we all work together, things happen! This year was my first year at this event, and it certainly will not be my last! Blue Skies, Chris Collura - C30317 Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!

Yeah I know ... When we all see it there and it is flying jumpers, then I will believe everything. Just getting over-zealous ;-) I know to get something lke this going requires a lot (a LOT) of overcoming politics and stuff (a.k.a the FAA and such). Keep our fingers crossed... Good day everyone, I heard the DC-9 (from the WFFC site will be arriving this Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Rantoul - Looks like all of us are going to be really happy with that! Before reading this thread, I was concerned about which days the Jet would be available, but one reply says "every day, morning & evening" ... Since I will be at the convention on the 29th and 30th - Looks like my dream of jumping from a jet aircraft will finally come true ;-) Just want to thank all who worked on making this happen since the 727 was never able to make it for quite some time - Great job!! Get read for the "aircraft throw" of a lifetime! Blue skies, Chris C - C30317 Fly High ... Don't "Get High"!
