When you didn't cutaway and should have...
Bones replied to Glitch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
On my last jump. My left brake line was locked at about half brakes (nice little knot around the elastic keeper). I ended up wrapping the right brake line around my hand a couple of times, then using the rear risers to steer/flare. Since I was already in half brakes, there wasn't much flare left and I ended up stalling it out right at landing (fortunately it wasn't worse, since I did do a couple of practice flares). On opening I was directly upwind of the DZ with lots of outs. If I had cutaway, it probably would have landed right in the landing area. If it had been a worse spot, I would have been smarter to chop it. -
I recently bought and love a Garmin Nuvi 350, but regret not getting a Tom Tom if only for the option of having John Cleese's voice give me directions.

Nice timing on the song. I remember going to see "Kid" Johnny Lang in Minneapolis eight or ten years ago when I was doing my Residency. It was funny--he was playing in places that he wasn't old enough to be in.

I'm currently on Alpha Team, so feel free to try out some unusual, aggressive approaches during the event. Oh, and make sure they show up on video......

When I first pulled the slinks out of the bag and played with them I didn't think that they "locked" very securely. Come on--slip a loop, pull a tab? However, when I tried to take them apart I realized what an elegant and sturdy "knot" they made.
-
I might go with the soft links since they came with the canopy, but I admit they freak me out a little.

Can I pick up parachute-quality french links for type 17 mini-risers at my local Home Depot? If so, what size?

You're racist. You're an "anti-Lennite".

Will do, thanks.

I was thinking about trying out wingsuits for the first time on my trip to Eloy this weekend. Do they have anything set up down there for (wingsuit) newbies?

50% ignorance, 50% arrogance on his part. Of course if you DID want to piss him off just tell him of all the MD's you know that jump (as well as the mothers, grandmothers, actuaries, Skydivers Over Sixty, etc).

Perris is hosting the "Top Gun" 100-way sequentials this weekend. That could play into your decision either way--cool but crowded.

They're jumping RIGHT NOW and I'm stuck on call all this weekend up here in Oregon. Pisser that. Do it to it, POPS.

Jerry- I'm still working on copying it for both you and Jim Straight. I tried to scan it at home but the pictures came out with a weird distortion pattern. An attempt at photocopying them was decidely sub-par. I'll still get it done. Steve- Definitely remember Jack and his then-wife Melinda. Otis (elevator) remains a legend. One of the pictures in the Susan Ferrell's 1979 Sheridan yearbook (referenced by Jerry above) was of an unnamed Beech at an unnamed Boogie with "Otis was here" painted on the side. Jeff- In the SCR/SCS picture above I was using your 5-cell as my main. I still have the SCR/SCS application form with everyone's names in my first logbook. I'll list them when I get home. Of course who would forget the woman in red and black--Nancy Sardella (mmmmm).
-
Jerry- Here's a picture for you, from "back in the day" at Sheridan. It was my SCR/SCS load. I had a mere 62 jumps so for the last dive of the day I was going to lay base for the 8-way round and get my SCR. Unfortunately one of the last guys to dock took out the formation and since I had the least experience I was the last to get back in. SCR and SCS on the same dive. However, I couldn't attend the celebration at The Green Frog since I was still underage. In reference to an earlier thread, One of Sheridan's twin Beeches is in the background. I don't think I have a pic of the AT-11 (aka "The White Whale").

A cotamundi. Basically, it's a South American raccoon.

Anyone know where I can download some good diagrams of the current NSL 4-way pool for randoms and blocks? Preferably color coded.
-
How do you pick which big ways you attend?

So...what about the mythical State of Jefferson?

He's playing up in Portland tomorrow night. Now if I can just get off work in time....
