  1. This made me laugh. What do you think is so grand about what we're doing here? We're just a bunch of people who are posting our musings and opinions on an internet forum...for skydiving. As for the original article, it's like mnealtx said: if I have to hear about every time someone uses a gun incorrectly or for evil purposes, I don't see anything wrong with posting an article that supports my position. Further, I imagine that finding the article, clicking over to dz.com, and posting it required a damn sight less effort that your pointless rant. Moral of the story, GQ: relax. At the end of the day, I doubt any of these posts are going to change anyone's mind. They do, however, help pass the time. Even yours can be used for this purpose. So, thanks! 4. It all boils down to.....the people want certain services and things like roads.. people to take care of the roads. some people see education of their young and the young of others in their society as a good thing...... and on and on and on... Some people are responsible are are willling to pay for those things.. OTHERS though want anything that does not help them personally to be cut as waste.... AND expect others to pay for them... the old something for nothing crowd Most of the CUT TAXES crowd are those who want quite a lot of something but are unwilling to pay for it. And OTHERS want anything that helps them personally/win votes to be paid for by someone else...the old something for nothing crowd. 5. I really don't believe they've forgotten that aspect for one second. In a situation like this, the answer is to raise taxes. Such dire numbers make it all the easier to accomplish this. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  6. Hmmm...the media has been fairly dismissive of Paul so far. If they all start showing a conspicuous amount of attention to these allegations, my bullshit detector will be ringing big-time. EDIT: One more thing. How many years has Paul been sitting in the House? Now this stuff comes out? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  7. We have some very learned people on this board who don't seem to realize this. Because there are differing ideas and opinions on it. My best friend is an economist, a post-keynesian Ph.D. from Canada - the stereotypical Canadian socialist. He's always wrong, but never with faulty logic. They just start from different points, that's all. Fair enough. I suppose it's obvious which point I start from, then. 9. You might be worrying too much about this. Conserve brain power and expend as much effort as he does. Good policy. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

  11. Nope. Someone else here is running into a contradiction. When you find him, let me know. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  12. Hah. We need more laws in place so people won't allow themselves to be robbed, eh? This idea is just as asinine in this thread as it was in the others...sorry. OH my - surely OWNING A GUN is what you need to prevent yourself from being robbed. I mean, that's what you guys keep telling us week after week after week. Do try for a little credibility here. Not even remotely what I meant. Take what I said as being completely independent of guns and the gun issue. You'll then see why your idea makes no sense. How can it be independent. Please use a little logic here. You claim you want a gun to prevent crime but don't want to take responsibility! Puhleese! I love how you can be patronizing and obtuse in the same post. We've been through all this before. Maybe you just need more time to think about it. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

  16. If Ron Paul doesn't appear in Fox's debate, I'm done sticking up for them on these forums. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  17. Now that was an interview and a half. Much better than his performance on Meet the Press. Go Paul! Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  18. If guns are the answer, then street gang territory should be the safest place in the USA. Am I really hearing this from a college professor? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  19. Says you. Nothing is exactly what needs to be done. I'd rather not have the government placing too many restrictions on who can and who can't purchase weapons. Restricting criminals is fine because they've demonstrated an unwillingness to live by society's laws. "Madmen", as you so nebulously put it, who, I assume, have done nothing wrong (otherwise they'd be filed under "criminals"), should not have their firearm purchasing abilities restricted. As long as I have the means to shoot back at the occasional madman who goes off the deep end, I can live with the fact that sometimes the wrong person gets his hands on a gun despite any and all laws that are on the books. It's one of the prices of a free society. As far as criminals obtaining guns goes, you may as well be asking how to stop criminals from committing crimes. Good luck with that one. 23. I used to own a Chinese paratrooper model with a higher-quality Russian stock (don't ask me how that happened). The shortened barrel length really made it fun to shoot, and I miss it . Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  24. Sounds kind of like the people who think that if we give just a little more to the govt., somehow, we'll all be blessed beyound measure. Amen. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
  25. Well, as you said Russert was "business-as-usual". Paul should have been better prepared for it. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
