I have visions of incoming posts saying how whites have collective debts to repay to minorities, which somehow makes all the hypocrisy you just pointed out OK. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

It's About Time: H'wood Execs Fed Up With "Petulant Brat" Movie Stars
Lefty replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
It is very important not to confuse the economic concepts of "scarcity" and "importance". The role a teacher fills in society is very important, probably one of the most important jobs in the world. However, how many people could do that job? Millions. Now, being a movie star, or even being a golf pro, what does that really contribute? Not much, relative to the teacher. However, how many people can be Tom Cruise? Just one. How many people can be Tiger Woods? Just one. People want to see Tom Cruise and Tiger Woods perform, accepting no substitutes. Anyway, if the demand for Cruise is truly slacking, the market will reflect that in the form of his next paycheck for his next awful movie. Until then, I'm glad he can keep making his millions. Have you read your political party's platform?
Lefty replied to Nightingale's topic in Speakers Corner
It's right here. http://www.lp.org/issues/platform_all.shtml I found it in about two clicks, under the "issues" heading. I was actually referring to this thread. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -

I wish I could say I have...unfortunately the libertarians have dismantled theirs, so its nowhere to be found. Edit: Which further convinces me that parties are worthless, when even as noble an ideal as libertarianism can be taken over by foolish party "leaders". Hey, ATL: RastaRican ROCKY HORROR B-Day Field trip
Lefty replied to RastaRicanAir's topic in The Bonfire
Well, I've never met any of you, I've never been to RHPS in a theater, and people in costumes scare me. But...I do live about half a mile from the theater you're going to. Sooooo I'm on the fence at this point. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin -

Hey, all. I stumbled upon the Ural motorcycles webpage the other day, and was wondering if anyone here has any info/personal experiences they'd like to share about them. They look really neat and unique, and I hear they have quite a fan base. Any info is appreciated. Thanks! Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

I think this is a satisfactory argument for the non-conspiracy side. Clicky He also provides links to 9/11 conspiracy-debunking websites at the bottom. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Tell me how a company can really and truly screw someone without the assistance of government to coerce an individual to do business with that company. Tell me also where you get the idea that it's the government's job to "protect" certain classes from other classes in matters that do not have to do with one party using illegal force or fraudulent activities against another. "Right" in the sense that libertarians prefer less government over more? Damn straight. "Right" in the sense that libertarians want to take away people's personal freedoms based on an arbitrary moral code? Pleeeeease. Do some real research on the ideology then try again. And that's why I'm not a member of the Libertarian party even though my views are libertarian. Those idiots can't go five minutes without making themselves look like a joke. They're dodging the "tough" questions. Fortunately, most libertarians' views aren't dependent on something as fickle as a party platform, since the ideology is principle-based. Well, I'm really not concerned with the electoral college, just the system. SMDP (single-member district plurality) or PR (proportional representation)...that's the question. Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin

Would anyone care to see our electoral system changed to a proportional representation system in the legislature? Personally, I'm sick of this two-party crap which is almost guaranteed when you have a first-past-the-post majority system for electing the legislature. I know in PR efficiency is sacrificed for representation. However, considering all the crap that's been shooting through congress lately which is taking the country in what I consider the wrong direction, I'd be happy to have the works muddied up a bit. Hell, maybe we could even get some real libertarians elected and really mess them up. Thoughts? Provoking a reaction isn't the same thing as saying something meaningful. -Calvin
