Wear poly-pro or skin tight jogging type therma underwear (Tops and Bottoms) under your regular clothes/jumpsuit with thermo gloves, and a turtle neck long sleeve shirt. I just jumped last weekend in 15 degrees at 10,500 altitude, and I wasn't even cold or feel any cold air. I also wore a full faced helmet as well. Didn't even feel the cold in freefall. Pulled at my normal A license altitude (3,000 AGL). Rylord Kentucky Skydiving Center

Cheryl Sterns is going to attempt to break the existing altitude record, and in the mean while they estimate she could attain a speed of 1.3 Mach (885 mph). StratoQuest is a World Record High Altitude Sky Dive Attempt and Research Project. Cheryl Stearns will attempt to break the current world sky dive record of 102,800 by ballooning to 130,000 and safely parachuting in a pressurized space suit to the earth's surface. This is scheduled to happen in March 2005. http://www.stratoquest.com Rylord Kentucky Skydiving Center

Need input/info on Vector II, Raider 220 Main and Maverick 200 Reserve
rylord replied to rylord's topic in Gear and Rigging
Thanks for replying. I did discuss the rig with my instructors. I wanted to get more info and input from the experienced skydiving community on dropzone.com. The harness/container, and the main canopy has only 3 jumps on it. Its very evident that the Rig, and Main canopy is in brand-new condition...the F111 material is fresh, slick, and very much brand new like. All the lines, toggles, velcro, etc. are clean and new. Quite a few experienced skydivers examined the Rig and canopies for me, and all said it was brand-new and barely (if any) used. The original owner was from Germany, bought it from DeLand (he picked it up here in the US - based on the written handwritten sticky note on the original receipt) and only jumped the Rig 3 times. The reserve has never been jumped on. I am in the process of losing a few more pounds as well. I hope to be down to under 190 soon. Thank you very much for your reply and good information. Need input/info on Vector II, Raider 220 Main and Maverick 200 Reserve

Thanks. I did ask quite a few experienced skydivers at the DZ about the equipment as well. I wanted to get more input/feedback/information from the skydiving community and possibly from those who may have this equipment, or jumped it at one time. Basically, I want to learn everything I can about it. Since, none of the experienced skydivers at my DZ (a very small DZ) has a Raider 220 Main, so I thought I'd post my questions here. Thanks, I do appreciate your feedback. Rylord Kentucky Skydiving Center -
Need input/info on Vector II, Raider 220 Main and Maverick 200 Reserve

Hello all, I am a student getting ready to get my A-license shortly. I recently purchased a nice - but used Rig (it only has 3 jumps on it). I have the original purchase receipt for the rig, and canopies, and also came with the original manuals for both canopies. I was wondering if anyone could give me your opinion, insight, experiences on the particular gear I just bought. The harness/container is a Vector II and the Main canopy is a Raider 220 (F111), the reserve is a Maverick 200 (F111), and the AAD is an original Cypres with 3 years left on it. The lines are all bright white and brand-new...even though the entire rig and both canopies were originally purchased in 1989 from DeLand (I have the original receipt). The manufacturer of the canopies was Glide Path International, but now they are called Flight Concepts. The Vector rig itself is from Relative Works. At the moment - the rig is with a Rigger because it needs to have the reserve repacked/inspected due to being over 120 days currency...and the Cypres was sent to the manufacturer for inspection/battery install. The rigger also has to install the Cypres as well. I am currently jumping with a student rig - which has the following: Javelin harness/container, a 262ft (F111) main canopy, and a 250ft reserve. Any, and all information pertaining to my new gear would be helpful. Also I'm 6'2" and weigh 210lbs. was also wondering if this gear is right for my size/weight? I told you I'm a student -
Excellent quality altimeter with a sturdy hand-mount. Comes with a 10 year warranty. Easy to read with large numbers. For a few bucks more you can buy one with a phosphorescent face that provides a background glow to assist in low light conditions. The glow lasts over 2 hours in complete darkness which makes it perfect for night jumps. I highly recommend this altimeter.

USPA's website (http://www.uspa.org/about/index.htm) states: Age "Minors who are at least 16 years of age and have notarized parental or guardian consent may be allowed to participate in some training programs at some schools, according to the state and school policy. The person providing consent for a minor may be required to observe all pre-jump instruction. Most commonly, schools require all participants to be at least 18." I guess you have to check to see if your State has any law(s) that pertains to or prohibits Minor's from skydiving...as well as finding a DZ in your area that allows 16 year olds to train and jump. I hope this info helps out. Rylord Kentucky Skydiving Center

People with Large Pupils Can Now Get LASIK and Avoid Night Vision Disturbances July 24, 2003 SAN FRANCISCO – People who previously were not considered good candidates for LASIK because of large pupils can now get the procedure, according to a study appearing in the July issue of Ophthalmology, the clinical journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Eye M.D. Association. By using a larger laser treatment zone on the underlying layers of the cornea, surgeons can avoid inducing night vision disturbances such as haloes and glare that patients with large pupils often experience. In this study, the first to evaluate laser treatment zones larger than 6.5 millimeters, 352 eyes of 186 patients underwent LASIK for correction of nearsightedness and nearsightedness with astigmatism. The treatment zones varied from six to eight millimeters, depending on the size of the patient’s pupil, degree of astigmatism and amount of needed correction. Among patients with nearsightedness, nearly 56 percent achieved uncorrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better; among those with nearsightedness with astigmatism, nearly 62 percent achieved 20/20 or better. In addition, preoperative best-corrected visual acuity and best spectacle-corrected contrast sensitivity were maintained. Brian S. Boxer Wachler, MD, co-author of the study and a faculty member at the UCLA Medical Center, Jules Stein Eye Institute, said, “We know that corneal aberrations and night vision disturbances after LASIK are directly proportional to the degree of nearsightedness corrected and the size of the clearance zone – that is, the difference between pupil size and the optical zone treated by the laser. With this study, we now know use of large optical zones is safe and effective in preventing nighttime glare and haloes in patients with large pupils.” “This study shows using ablation zones from six to eight millimeters did not pose a problem in terms of safety. If anything, the larger optical zones had a higher percentage of eyes achieving 20/20 and 20/40 uncorrected visual acuity than the smaller zones,” said Academy spokesperson James J. Salz, MD, clinical professor of ophthalmology at the University of Southern California and attending ophthalmic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. “A subjective report on the patients’ satisfaction with their night vision outcomes and measuring these treated eyes with wavefront studies to determine the level of postoperative higher order aberrations would be a good follow-up to this study.” Dr. Boxer Wachler estimates that 50 percent of patients who have the LASIK procedure done have large pupils and would benefit from large laser treatment zones because they would be less likely to have night vision disturbances. Yeah..yeah...it was my first ripped canopy which I ended up riding all the way down and landing safely. Even though it had a hole ripped in the middle....it was square, stable and steerable...just a bit faster on the descent! When I safely landed...the DZO came running over and he was shaking from head to toe...he was so nervous and surprised I rode the thing all the way down instead of pulling the reserve. I remember him standing there shaking and offering me a nice cold bottle of water (hot day)...his hands were shaking so bad...I felt sorry for the guy. After looking back and reflecting on it...I should have definitely chopped it and pulled the reserve instead of taking the risk! Rylord Kentucky Skydiving Center -
If you have ever rode the plane down...

Yeah..it sure was a C-182 (N5902B) at KSC...I was one of the skydivers aboard that infamous flight downward after a hopeless search for some cloudless altitude! One of the other skydivers was Skream! Hahaha - busted! I didn't mind though...you landed us perfectly! Did I hear someone mention something about some beer?? Rylord Kentucky Skydiving Center -

Greetings to all, I just wanted to introduce myself and post a "Hello" to everyone on here. I recently joined this website and the forums...so I figured I start with a nice intro and a "Hello". I use to jump at Skydive Goshen up in NW Indiana, and recently relocated south to the "Bluegrass" area of central Kentucky. My new home DZ is Kentucky Skydiving Center (KSC) located in Frankfort, KY (awesome place to jump!!!). Anyways...this site looks like a great website and my new online DZ!!!. Have fun...and Blue skies! Rylord Kentucky Skydiving Center -
