Very sweet!! But why did you get a competition cobalt if you have no plans to swoop or use it to its potential? Just wondering
-
I'm afraid I'd still cry I agree, show the video
-
I could kick you in the nuts for free, but that doesn't make it a good deal. --------------------------------------------------------- True, but you still have to pay return shipping from PD. So it my not be completely free, but cheaper than most.
-
There is still a company that will let you demo for free. Yep FREE, or at least it was last time I checked. It is Atair aerospace, the guys that make the cobalt canopy. Only flown it once, but I really liked it. It is an elliptical, so you need a little bit of canopy skills but hell, its free, except for shipping of course. check em' out.

*** While I don't have my setup configured optimally, you should really have Adobe running on a partitioned HDD and should have at least 512MB of memory. 1GB is recommended. Quote I am using Premiere 6.5 on 1.6Gig Centrino running windows XP Pro, 40GB hard drive and 512 RAM. How would I partition my HDD, and why would this help? I have not really had too many problems with it, but I am still new to it. Thanks in advance

Hey bro, no body is trying to bust your bubble. I am a rookie camera flyer myself. My instructors have always said I've been real "heads up" in freefall and I didn't start till just over 200 jumps. The size of the camera is only part of the whole equation. No matter the size, it is a big distraction. As someone already mentioned, you are (usually) not the only one in freefall. Besides whats the rush? Filming your own jumps doesn't really lend any helpful information anyway. Just my two cents, take it for what its worth. Blue Skies

Thanks for your help guys. I guess I'll start looking for a 2.8.

I'm in the process of adding a still to my setup. I have a 28-80mm lens now, but what to add a fixed 28mm, and I am not sure about the f number. I have found some with 2.8 and others with 1.8. I think this has to do with the depth of the picture that is in focus. So my question is for experience guys. Which one do you use and why. I will be mainly working on filming tandems. Thanks for you help

Which still lens has about the same field of view as .45x video??
JJ269J replied to JJ269J's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks guys!! Your help is always apprieciated. Since the camera comes with a 28mm, I'll start with that and then get a 24mm. I agree that a little wider still is better. Thanks again -
Which still lens has about the same field of view as .45x video??
JJ269J replied to JJ269J's topic in Photography and Video
Hey guys, I did a search and it returned a billion hits, so let me just ask for opinions here . I am shopping for a still cam to mount on my helmet. I think I am going with a Canon Rebel G2. I want a lens that has approx. the same field of view as my PC100 with a .45X wide angle lens, and don't know whether to get a 28mm or 24mm or what. Has anybody experimented with this (of course you have)? Thanks in advance to all the photo gurus!! -
Thats why my DZ does not give the option. If you get video, you get a roll of stills, no need to preview this way. (This goes for tandem, one timers. Experienced can alway work something out with the video guy). Just me 2 cents

Sony PC100. It took a few days of off and on work to finish it, but I think it was worth it

Hey guys, I wanted some opinions on my helmet. It is a velocity with a home made fiberglass box glassed on to the helmet. Cam-eye II and ratchet chin strap. I have tried to minimize snag points. Its for all around stuff, fun jumps, practice w/ tandems, RW etc. I sight it with a sticker on the inside of my goggles, and with the help of quade's cross hair (superimposed over image). Thanks quade. Here are a few pics and the cross hair from quade.

Has anyone used a Canon Digital camcorder for skydiving?
JJ269J replied to TALONSKY's topic in Photography and Video
I have a Canon ZR45MC. It works fine for video, I even made my own box for it out of fiberglass. The only problem I had with it was the playback speaker quit working. It records sound to the tape just fine but when you playback on the camera there is no sound. Only with headphones or through a TV. Other then that it works fine and takes good video. The cam eye 2 kinda works with it. Meaning that it only works as an indicator, red and green lights, but if you try to start it recording with the cam eye, the camera shuts off. (Found that out the hard way, just about to climb out.) So, I have started jumping a Sony PC100 with no issues. Had to make another box though. (Can't pay that much for a box when I know I can make one for $20.00 and my own labor). Hope that helps -
I second that!!

Thanks dsbbreck, broke out my tiny screws driver and it was off in 5 min.

I just got a used (new to me) PC100. Does anyone know how to remove the hand strap without cutting it? I can remove the front side but what about the back side? Thanks
-
QuoteIs it possible that the rubber stuff around the pins could hold onto the chinstrap? Is there any chance that a riser strike could pull your handle off it's velcro? Its not actually rubber its cloth type padding, and it will come off with the straps. I have been jumping it with no problems, but a riser strike could possibly pull the handle of the velcro, but it cannot snag on it so it will not produce near enough force to pull the cotter pin.

I finally got around to posting some picks of my quick release. I found a very similar idea on the forum (so this is not all my idea, so thanks to whoever did think of it). All it takes is a quick pull of the webbing, which is attached using velcro. The thing I didn't like about other versions like this I've seen is that most of them just pull a cotter pin on the inside of the helmet but that was it, so under a load it probably would not release. This way, it first pulls the cotter pin, then pulls the shaft out, So, you are guaranteed to release the chin strap. All you need is 1 inch webbing, two metal rings, 1/4 inch aluminum rod, cotter pin, and washers. So I'd like to hear opinions/suggestions.

I have a Canon ZR45MC, which is physically the same on the outside as the ZR65, just an older version. For the most part it works fine, but after a dozen or so jumps on it, when you playback the video on the camera there is no audio. The audio plays fine if you hook up to a TV though. So I guess the original speaker doesn't like freefall. Other than that its been great. Got the camera, leather case, 2 batteries, lens filters, .45 wide angle lens, remote and all the normal stuff they come with for a total of $400. I do plan on saving for a different helmet and better camera like the sony pc105 or similiar, but for now while I develop my camera skills this works fine.

Injured Skydiver Needs Your Help
JJ269J replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Sorry to hear about the accident I just bought 5 tickets, hope it helps. Everyone help a jumper out!!!!!! My father had a bad landing and broke some bones in his leg. Every bit would have helped. He was out for 8 months or so. -
I would be able to attach the bracket flat at the bottom front and top front. I tried the rear, but the curvature on the helmet is to much. It angles the camera to far out, and I would not be able to compensate by rotating the camera back in. I know I want to eliminate the gap (which is small now, about 3/8") so the riser cannot slide in there and get hung up. I was thinking of using some A B epoxy. You mix the two parts and it has a working time of a few minutes so you can shape it how you want it. When it dries it can be sanded painted, or whatever. I think that would fill in what little gap still remains. I will also be able to move the whole mount forward on the helmet about another inch, so I think that will help too.
-
O.K. That would be better, but how would I go about adjusting the camera's view (as far as vertically?), or do I adjust it the way it is, do some measuring and hope I get it right? I know I should just buy a real camera helmet, however being a full time collage student, funds are short supply. Thanks again guys! I'll get this thing right before it kills me. Justin

Thats a good idea, I will try the harness thing. The camera's dimensions are approx. 5"L X 3.75"H X 2"D. I have includeda pic of the L bracket that came with the helmet. I made the C bracket to give the camera a litter more protection, but maybe it was at the expense of my own safety. I have also included a pic of the camera I got off the web. Mine is a zr45mc, but the look identical. As always I thank everyone for there opinion. Justin
