2 cops, 5 EMTs, 1 arrested, 1 in the hospital...
jdthomas replied to sharimcm's topic in The Bonfire
sounds like a "normal" saturday night call to me..infact i think I ran one just like that two weeks ago. I am a smart medic, I let the cops and the fire guys rush in and then wait for the all clear before i go. www.greenboxphotography.com -
"some other extreme odd body shape" Is not missing one arm and extreme odd body shape? I am glad that you feel comfortable in taking a one arm person on a tandem, i could just never see myself doing it. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

Thats great that you took the passenger. you where willing to take the risk as well was the passenger. I gave my two cents worth on how I felt and how I think that the risk does not out weigh the benift. There are to many things that can go wrong already, I personally don't see the need to add to the mix. Steve asked for as much input on this as possible, pro and con. He is a young TM in the since that he has not been doing tandem long. he is a very smart man for asking instead of just doing and seeing what will happen. I offered my input and because i feel that there is risk, I voice my thought and I have become a "troll" and told to "adjust". i am not sure why i can't have a thought or opinion that is diffrent and i should just adjust and go on like a cog in the wheel of a machine.. it's odd that because i err on the side of safety I am outed on my thoughts. I have always been very saftey minded in tandems and have told many people NO. Some where offended by this but oh well. they can bad mouth me for that, but an accident and a trip to the ER does more damage to me and the sprt then telling them they are not physically fit for this activity. I never hurt anyone doing tandems, well except some feelings by telling them NO and that never made national media and i can sleep at night with that.. hurting or killing someone just for a skydive.. well i would not sleep well with that. EFS4ever i am not a troll I am a real jumper and I if you viewed previous post you can see that I have been on here for years. You are correct in that tandems can be special but they are also not for eveyone and we can't always adjust to make it that way. I gave Steve my thoughts as he asked for opinions. granted i only have afew thousand tandem jumps and am not an expert by any means.. I just gave my thoughts on the topic. I have personally seen "special" tandems gone bad that did not have to make the jump. and I don't see much room for this type of publicity when the jumps go bad. One thing for an experienced jumper to get hauled off by an ambulance, but a tandem passenger should never have that happen. I respect your desire ADJUST accodringly and you can respect my choice without calling me a troll. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

after this summers tragic tandem accidents i would avoid this tandem. or you can do it and ask yourself would you be willing to live with yourself if someone was to get hurt or killed doing this. know when to say NO to special tandems is my advice. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

Shaun I used to be the cheapest rigger in the area and maybe I still am. If I charged you at all it was usally a deli sandwich or some lunch meal on a busy DZ day. i found that when I was busy making money doing tandems i would call out to a person that owed me for a repack to run to town and get me a turkey on wheat, chips and drink and that was worth any 50$ I could have ever charged for the repack. I personally avoid rigging for the masses and if I get one that is needed right away then it's 50$. that comes with new cypress loops, custom color main closing loop and all the extras. but knowing where you live i would say charge what you want because you will be the only rigger in your area! Zigzag i was a strong advocate for you to be on IH and because of the stupid rules by donkeyboy Alex I left that fourm after he would not allow you in. I will see what i can do to get you a video if there is one done. My wonderfull girlfriend christina still is a member of IH and is posting this thread there for all to read. Anyone intrested in joining the IH or Industrialhaze skydiving fourm should go to. www.visionairpro.com and click on the IH link, then ask for permission to join.. you will be denided unless you have jumped at the "local" dz's that this fourm serves.. but please don't let that stop you from bugging the owner Alex. Asking this type of question is tricky.. what you may pay for someting or what worth or value you place on it is or may be diffrent then others.. you have to ask yourself what something is worth and what you are willing to pay. To me the gear would seem to a decent value, that is if I had the money for it and I was looking for that type of gear. Is this the gear that is right for you and can you afford it are a few of the questions you need to ask yourself. Good luck searching for gear. it can be a nightmare to find that just right product. It was daunting for me when i started and I am still glad to this day that I went used for my first few rigs. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

I have two more days and three more test then my semester is over.. today i should be reading but i spent the day in my rigging loft making the money by compression fabric into very small places in a very neat way. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

I came from a small town like you I love the small town character. harrisonville Mo is not a small town and it is suburb area of kansas City.... tehy just don't like anyone there I guess.. the sign that was posted was on behalf of the kansas City carpenters union. why would craftsman dislike another supplier is beyond me? I once jumped a jonathan and it was quite a ride... the thing wanted to turn left or was it right?/ anyway it had a hard turn in it as it was old and out of trim really bad.. it was still fun as i had a challenge on my hands to fly and land the thing with out it stalling. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

wow this sounds like last years fun... just kidding! CSpencefly you need to come to KC sometime and see this stuff for yourself. Just a side note if you all remember the KC threads last year. the city of harrisonville Mo that wanted to push the new KCskydiving center away had also run off a powerplant that would have employeed alot of people from that area. well thier latest effort is to keep a lumber yard from coming to town. I drove thru Hville the other day and on the highway there is a large billboard that crys out to keep Sutherland lumber from coming to town, building a new building and employing locals.. Harrisonville must not want economic growth.. it's sad really. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

Kansas city is famous for BBQ and of all the BBQ resturants around here I really like KC Masterpiece over the others. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

When did wearing a sky diving patch go out of fashion.?
jdthomas replied to steve1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Mark Hamm in Mt Vernon Mo is making some really cool "modern" patches.. he has a web site called flying loom and has posted here as freethefly i think.. Do a search and check it out, he has also made me some custom patches that are just awesome. Like John, I got tired of taking the patches off my suit, so I place them on my gear bag! I owned a racer in the past and it was an okay rig to me but nothing great, I did not enjoy the parapack material espaically when it started to look rough and worn out. i also did not like the lack of soild cable housings in the container or riser, my Jav had the same problem as well. I looked around for awhile and tried many diffrent rigs and i can to enjoy the mirage. having said that I am not at all enjoying the new closing sequence mod that was last issued. the rig is wide and looks quite bulky, but I like it's comfort and overall style over that of the Racer. the mirage just looks more appealing to me and the construction feels more soild. I just got finished packing to Infinitys today, decent little rigs as well and for the price they seem like a great value. Thanks for your input on your likes of your racer. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

Why not? Miami I am intrested in what made this jumper choose racer over rigs on the market. i don't give a fuck about the rigging aspect as I can pack them with no problem. I also don't care about tuck tab contreversy either. i just want to know why this person has coosen a racer over other rigs.. pretty simple question really. what does this jumper see in a racer? was it design, cost, fit, style or other and etc? I choose my rig ( a mirage) based on what i felt to be a good design, construction and comfort as well as cosmetic appeal. My good friend loves his racer the appeal for him was the small size of the power racer. Alot of people here have blown this thread up and way out of context, i am sorry to have added to that by asking a question outside of this jumpers request. I personally like a clean looking rig with matching tapes and bindings. go for a solid color that does not fade easily. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

24hrs straight two times per week.. these last two weeks I did 72 hrs each week and attend school full time. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

I am curious as to why you would order a racer over other rigs on the market? How many people jump a racer around you? Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

I got stuck with a needle this week and then many more times after that. one of the crew left a dirty needle in the jump bag and when I reached in to get some supplies out I got stuck with the dirty needle. now my life is somewhat on hold as I await test results from the lab... I am not happy with co workers right now thats for sure. If you work with shaprs. make sure you place them in the container! Joe www.greenboxphotography.com

My wall is a work in progress, In the morning i will be at the home depot for more wood to add to the project. I have built it to take outside as well. in my back yard I have sunk in 4x4's and have nut and bolts that hold the wall into place on the 4x4's. the wall is heavy and I have taken skateboard wheels and trucks and attached them to the bottom of the wall to wheel the wall into my yard with ease. the next two sections i add to it will also be modular so i can chnage them around as well. I have a book on plans here if you want I can copy some pages and mail it to you. Joe www.greenboxphotography.com
