  2. Finally got the knee screws out of femur rod yesterday. One of them didn't come out without a fight though. The screw was stripped so he had to get a vice grip and hand crank it out of there. He said his hands are still sore today from getting that thing out of there. Oh well hopefully in a week i will be skydiving!! B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  3. I got some new custom handles from RWS. I put the 3 rings back on with the new cutaway handle. The cables were too long, it went all the way to the end of the hard housings with about 2 inches left before the handle got to the velcro. Is it as simple as having a rigger clip the cables to make them shorter? Not sure if the reserve cable is the same way, will find out when I get it repacked. Thanks. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  4. Yes i miss feeder roads, there aren't any in colorado either. Feeders make it so much easier to find something along the hwy if you don't know exactly where it is, instead of getting off the hwy then trying to get back on to get one more exit down. Wasn't a fan of Phili when I visited there either. The historic stuff was cool but that was about it. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  5. I haven't set one off yet with my femur rod and screws. Anyone had the screws removed from a femur rod? I am getting the ones in my knee out next month. Knee screws = pain B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  6. Got lucky when my canopy collapsed in turbulance at 30 feet. Got a nice femur rod to show for it but that is better then the alternative. I don't think this really has any connection to my jump numbers though, as everyone who witnessed it said i did everything i could have. But maybe it does. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  7. Yea it scared the hell out of me on the ground too. Until i heard and felt the pilot chute launch. Glad I had that happen on the ground instead of in the sky Now i know to expect it if it happens again. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  8. I got it second hand, the guy i bought it from gave it a fresh repack before he gave it to me. If i had bought a new one, I would gotten the skyhook for sure . Getting this one modified for a skyhook is pretty pricey from what i have seen. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  9. For you riggers and Vector 3 owners out there: I pulled the reserve on my Vector 3 the other day because it was due for a re-pack. This was the first time it had needed a re-pack since i got it. It has an RSL but not a skyhook. I noticed when i got the rig how the reserve pin was reversed from other RSL rigs i have seen. Instead of the reserve handle/cable having the pin on the end of it, it was connected to the RSL cable right above the pin. Hope that makes sense. When I pulled the reserve the pin prevented the reserve handle/cable from coming all the way out. This caught me by surprise, but looking at the design it made sense that it did what it did. Is this RSL/pin design simply meant to keep you from loosing your reserve handle? Or is there more to it than that? I hope i explained that well enough, kinda hard to put it into words. Thanks. 10. Yea you are right, it was a bonus part of the game. You have to pass parts of the game to 'get' to it. I bought the game used so i didnt have to do the other stuff. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  11. The skydiving on pilot wings is 'pretty' realistic. It is basic 4-way and it highlights the slot you need to go to. It is 3-d i guess you could say. Meaning you have to control your fall rate to get to the formation (they drop below you after you complete each point). I didn't really understand what was going on in my pre-jump days, but now it makes much more sense to me. The landings are kinda hard to get a feel for and you have a hard time knowing where the target is and if you are heading for it. Entertained me for a while at least. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  12. Did both sets of screws give you trouble or just the ones in the knee? The doc mentioned that the screws in my knee might cause me pain down the line and that they would remove them if the pain got too bad. Did they take yours out? Thanks. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  13. I don't think it was a spiral. They called it a 'butterfly' break. I thought it didn't look aligned myself, but the doc looked at it today and said everything is healing good and I should back to full strength in 6 weeks. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  14. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1322882;search_string=colorado%20femur;#1322882 Read all about it! B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  15. I got a copy of my x rays today from my broken femur. They didnt have the pre-surgery x rays available since the surgery was done at another hospital. But the first pic is 4 days after it happened (2Nov2005) and the second one was taken yesterday. Big bones take a little while to heal themself. Its not like when i broke my thumb. Enjoy. 16. I am with you on taking it easy. I am following all of the doc's recommendations. Through my therapy my leg didn't atrophy at all when comparing the measurements at the 6 week mark. Though I know my right leg still isn't as strong as the left. I am trying to work with my doc, I know a lot of people work against their doc. The main reason I am really adhering to the doc's recommendations is so I don't take any steps backward. I don't have time for that as gymnastics season is around the corner. I am not planning on jumping til April. I am trying to get to the point where I can do some gymnastics for our team this year. If all things go well, the doc is guessing mid February to go back to some events (like pommel horse for those that know gymnastics). I will worry about jumping after the gymnastics season is over (though I haven't gone a day without thinking about it yet) and with the doc's approval of course . Thanks for all the advice. 17. Well 6 weeks and 2 days after the accident and I am off crutchs. I got cleared for full wieght Monday. Looking at the x ray it still looked pretty bad but the doc knows more than me. Still have to wait 2 to 2.5 months to do any impact or running. We will see how that goes. P.S. Does anyone know how to get aluminum crutches to burn?? B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  18. Thanks for the replies. I am allowed 50% weight for the next 11 days, then hopefully with a good x ray will be up to 100%. I am walking in the pool, getting stim, doing misc. exercises, and taking calcium supplements. I hadn't heard about getting the rod removed before. The only thing the doc mention was getting the pins removed down the road if they were causing me pain in my knee. I will mention it to him when I go in to see him again. Anyone else had experience with getting the rod and then having it removed? B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  19. Seeing from the incident reports I am not the only lucky person to break a femur in this sport. I broke mine about 4 weeks ago and now have a rod and a couple pins in there. My question is to those that have broken their femur. How long did it take you to walk? run? jump? full recovery? The doc is telling me another 3 months to fully recover. He is saying it will take me 2 months after the bone heals to get all my muscles back. Now I have had broken bones before (though nothing this big/bad and they were casted). I was just wondering if that is on target with what other people have experienced? Assuming that i keep doing the physical therapy as prescribed. I know situations vary and such. The big concern for me now is getting back in shape for the gymnastics season and the doc doesn't predict I will be ready before March. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  20. Man makes me wish I had done a tandem Oh well maybe my first tandem will be as the tandem master I still want to thank tandem masters because they have given certain members of my family unforgettable experiences. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  21. I remember seeing this post when it came up last month. I remember thinking about it a bit but now I realize I didn't take these thoughts as seriously as I should have. After my incident, which left me with a broken femur (which could have very well have been my death), I have really looked at this. I remember reading the incidents here at dropzone.com and recognizing that most (arguable) of the injuries/deaths came from the jumper or another making a mistake which resulting in injury/death. This motivated me to practice so that I didn't make a mistake. However, I don't think I was fully prepare for the random, out of your control shit that can just happen. That you can do everything right and still be injured or killed. I feel, and so do the experienced people on the ground that witnessed it, that my incident was unavoidable / unrecoverable (still debatable). I have been thinking about giving up the sport but have come to grips with the shit-happens factor of our sport. I will continue with the sport but this has definitely made me step back and re-evaluate why i jump out of seemingly good airplanes. As the original poster mentioned, take a step back before the shit hits the fan and evaluate your reasons for being in the sport. See ya'll in 3-4 months. Blue Skies. Edited because i can't proof-read right the first time. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  22. I am just SO glad i did not add to the list (broken femur in CO guy here). Another 20 or 30 feet of alitittude and I believe I would be on your list. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  23. $22 for a 206 to 10,500. Same price for a turbine to 12,500. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'

  25. I have put about 10 jumps now on my second hand Vector 3. It was made for someone bigger than me yet it is still very comfortable to wear. The tuck tabs on the risers are not going to go anywhere in freefall. As for the reserve pin cover, it is the most secure I have ever seen. I can't imagine how it would ever come open accidently. The main pin cover seems more secure than those of the same type on other rigs. I have the back pad and hip rings. It makes the rig very comfortable on the ground and in the air. I really like the Tru-Lock toggles. I have only seen one other type of velcro-less toggles and the Tru-Lock toggles make more sense to me. The only thing I do not like about this rig is where they put the cypres window. I don't mind that it is under the reserve flap, as it was under the reserve flap in my last rig. In the Vector 3 they placed it so far up in the yoke I can barely see the display. I don't know if a rigger can move it down or not but I will be checking on that. All in all this is the most secure rig I have ever seen and don't let a little thing like the cypres window steer you away.
