Luckily I have Ari but I do pay for coaching when I have hit a road block. The coaching I've received has been so good that I have wanted to pay them full price but for one reason or another they wanted nothing of that. If a friend of mine goes out of their way, I like to let them know I appreciated it with payment and also other forms of gratitude that are free- BIG HUGS and THANK YOU'S

I sincerely hope you talked to someone (i.e., Mike) about this. It's not standard practice, and it should never happen. And my answer to the original post is: "immediately." There's no excuse for not hunting down and finding an MIA skydiver as soon as s/he is known to be missing. rl I've been trying to talk to Mike about this for a year but I think he's under the impression that I want to discuss a portion of my accident that doesn't relate to Skydive DeLand (i.e. canopy collapse, what could I have done different, etc). The next time I see Bob, I am going to tell him of my troubles with Mike and alert him to the situation. Thanks for your advice on speaking with someone Rhonda. Let me clarify. I told my buddy in advance to be nice so he wouldn't have to rush, this in no way excuses manifest from not doing their job. Could not agree more. Joe saved my confidence (and improved it greatly) and helped moved me past a few huge road blocks. MacCormac (great hd help) did the same as did Fabian and Joao for my back flying (I wasn't hd when I worked with Fabian & Joao). Glad to hear I'm not the only one who hits roadblocks. I forgot Carlos (doh!), I've worked with him a little informally and he was amazing as well. You are right on with their mental take or approach to flying, I loved it too. I understood so much more of what my body was doing with Joe, how he explained it just worked so well with me. So happy he does the same for others, I think he's just an amazing coach. Great poll idea for sure. My students don't pay but I'm not even a name let alone a big name I think its great that John gives back the way he does at AAC, very admirable. John gave me some pointers that really made a difference, I'd love for the hip to hold up longer next time so I can really get the goods out of him

What have you found to be beneficial (or not) from your big name coaches? Was it worth the expense? Did you learn a ton? Would you do it again with the same coaches or would you do it different next time? I found the positives of what can be in a name after an initial bad exp. but the good stuff first

The one you learn the most from and get the most out of. The one where the coaches mesh with your learning & flying styles. Call around and find people you gel with, talk to the coaches about your goals and see what they say about getting you there. Don't just go with a big name. Hit up the tunnel too and make sure your coach can do both sky coaching and tunnel coaching. It will limit your choice of coaches but it will be worth it. Who is responsible for the students? We always have a ground attendant for students. If there is none, no student is going up. Licensed skydivers taking care about each other and we do take care about our students. It's a club :). I wasn't a student just landing in the student area (please note I know I'm still very much a student in my skydiving skills & exp. Just not in the still on student status sense.). It's nice to know that others are looking out for eachother

Nice post La, I really enjoyed reading that Great advice! Freefalljenn: To add a little to what La said, if you find your arms are fatiguing, try having them bent at the elbow 90 degrees, pointing in front of you (if you can picture this). Instead of having straight arms out to your sides for lift, when you bend your arms you have created an easier wing to help you catch air. Working out has definitely helped my stamina while flying a ton in a day. I do a hard core boxing session with a trainer/former heavy weight champ 4 times a week to help rehab my hip- this is far more challenging than flying a ton in one day and its only an hour. If you've ever boxed you know what I'm talking about; full body work out, 2.5 minute rounds with hardly any break between and during those breaks you are doing sit ups, push ups, or lunges w. weights. Try boxing, jumping rope, cardio activities, and weights to keep you happy, healthy, and flying like a pixie

Have you landed out? Has anyone told you the stay/sit on the ground if you have injury and you need help. That's a simple signal. If I were you I would've left the gear in the field if I can feel I have some major injury. Yes I have landed out once at Lake Wales and walked back with other jumpers from the load, uneventful except for the bleached cow skull this girl and I ran across. We scurried out of the alligator infested area towards the trailer park fast. I was landing in the student area in DeLand. I think it would have taken me longer to get help had I just sat down- not sure if you've been to DeLand but you can't see the student area from the dz (well hardly at all if any). Good advice, def. never hurts. I also did this with my buddy who drives the truck but he got swooped up in work right before my load and wasn't reminded by manifest My best friend and her mom did tandems w. me on that load, her mom's first and her 9th jump (not all tandems). They were looking for me but after watching mom's video. I wasn't trying to sound like I was blaming anyone, I hope it didn't come off as such, just trying to let people know how important it can be to help others out esp. if they are landin off. I've flown with up to 7 girls at SVO (Tunnel For The Cause). You already knew that though Nothing beats our heart shaped, stacked, hybrid, formation!!!! Too bad the pics wern't so great but we all know how beautiful and tough it was to pull off

For my incident in DeLand, the manifest girl never sent my friend Eric out in the truck as I told her too since I was landing in the student area. I had to walk 25 yards with 25 lbs of gear and a broken hip just to get people in the private jet hangers to call the dz to have someone come get me.
