I have a close friend who is in need of a stem cell transplant in order to save him from his battle with lymphoma. Please consider giving someone the gift of life!!
For more information on Bone Marrow Donation, visit the website at www.marrow.org. This will answer questions pertaining to donation, for example you must be between the ages of 18-60 to be eligible to donate.
The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) helps people who need a life-saving marrow or blood cell transplant. They connect patients, doctors, donors and researchers to resources they need to help more people live longer, healthier lives. Their mission is to search the registry, support the patients and doctors, and match patients with the best donor possible using innovative science and technology.
The NMDP is the hub of a worldwide Network of more than 500 leading medical facilities in marrow and blood cell transplantation. Through this Network, the NMDP facilitates an average of 200 marrow or blood cell transplants each month and has helped give more than 20,000 patients a second chance at life.
I have had numerous people ask me “what can I do to help?” The answer is to give the possible gift of life. Just remember if someone is a match and is asked to donate, the recipient’s insurance covers all cost of the procedure, it is free for the donor.
