Skydive Atlanta is a phenominal DZ. My first and only day there was as if it was my hundredth. Friendly staff, and more importantly, friendly jumpers. The only 'tude here is ALTItude. The Super Twin is a rocket, you're up to 14K in about 8 minutes. There's a big indoor packing area, nice shop, and huge grassy landing areas and a million outs if you need them. I just wish I lived there.

Sorry bro, didn't mean for it to look like I was dumping on what you had said. I was just speaking in general, knowing that most people just see a kinked leg and a lot of screaming (hopefully, cuz screaming is a good thing). Skydiving isn't scary;...but clowns...CLOWNS are scary!

I understand that anytime someone gets injured, it seems to take forever for an ambulance to get there and everyone wants to do whatver they can to help. However, (you knew there was a however didn't ya??) if someone broke their femur, it's a result of a major traumatic event. This triggers a whole lot of protocols which really don't need discussion here. The point is that the only thing non-professionals can do is to keep the jumpers head/neck still, and (assuming they're breathing and not externally bleeding out), support the busted leg however it ended up. Applying traction to it is great, unless you let it up for even a second and shred something important with the splintered bone ends. I've been in Fire/EMS full time for 20 years, JMHO. It's not just skydiving, it's just human nature. I had a kid just out of paramedic school wanting to show me how he was taught to start an IV, while I was starting one on a patient. I know he's just still all giggly about being a medic now, but I think after sticking people with IV's for two decades, I kinda have it down. If there's a new cool trick, he can show me in the firehouse, not over the body of some poor guy who now thinks he's a show-n-tell prop.. Skydiving isn't scary;...but clowns...CLOWNS are scary!

There are so many Bloodborne diseases to worry about besides HIV that you really just have to assume that if you mix blood with someone, it not a good thing period. As far as a TM having it...if you mix your blood with that of someone to whom you were strapped to after getting out of a plane at 13K....dying ten years from now from a bloodborne illness is NOT your real problem... No we're not.....I mean...them....ummm....yeah they aren't here....watching or anything. OK, as a Homeland Security Guy, I just want to say thanks to the TSA folks for putting up with the shit and doing the best you can. I deal with explosives on a regular basis. Every ticket I get have "A's" all across the bottom, cuz I'm a "special" customer. The cute doggies at the airport love to sit next to me. The TSA guys go through all my stuff, swab it, everything. They see my ID's and creds, and know who I am and who I work for at that point. I don't get pissed, I play my part, because they're doing what they get paid to do. We all do our best, some days suck, some don't. I'm sure if you get treated with a little less respect than you feel is appropriate, it isn't personal. It sucks, yeah, but sometimes things are just the way they are. It's still better than getting slashed through the neck with a box cutter by the guy next to ya. I had good luck with BFL. I definately reccomend the Eating for Life book too. Great recipes, and like the program, it's not complicated or extreme....I think the use of EAS suppliments isn't critical unless you're looking for a 'vette and a check. You should probably use somebodys protein shakes though. I can't say enough about creatine also, great stuff, but like with everything else, you have to use it correctly. Any Spyderco or Benchmade knife owners among the skydivers?
firediver replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
I actually am half owner of a business that sells both Spyderco and Benchmade (www.specialoperatorsgear.com). Both great companies, but when it counts, I always trust a benchmade. My automatic tanto blade has never failed me yet.... Skydiving isn't scary;...but clowns...CLOWNS are scary! -
I agree....I'm sure if you were anywhere near anyone in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Ranger Batts you would have a very clear idea of their thoughts on it. Further, the Army didn't want to issue tan (sand) berets to the rank and file because it would hasve been insulting to the SAS. I love my buddies across the pond in the in the SAS, but damn, ya don't slap our Rangers in the face just to keep an allied force happy. Skydiving isn't scary;...but clowns...CLOWNS are scary!

As it's been said, think of the terrain you're jumping over, and what going to stand out to a pilot trying his best to cuisinart you while he's reading charts, flying, and not listening to a "jumpers out" call on the air. An opposing colored center cell also makes packing easier as well. As far as the flag jumping goes, as long as the ground crew grabs it before it drags on the ground, it's all good.
