http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/07/29-4 Obama is spending like a sailor on shore leave but I knew it was all George's fault. Well, since you clearly don't know, I suggest you check to see under which presidents' administrations the bulk of our debt was accumulated. Here's a hint - one was called "Reagan" and the other two were called "Bush". So in your mind it's OK to continue on a bad path because now it's being done by a president you like. Got it.

Not Everything in America has to be for profit
timmyfitz replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
If profits lead to better and cheaper methods, why don't charities operate for profit? Where did he say cheaper? I believe he said "new and better". -
Yes. I think skyflybabe may be one of them.

did the book have very short words set in large type for easy reading? Yes it does. Made for people like you. So now you can read and understand it
-
Did you just choose to ignore all that Dave wrote?
-
Am I reading that wrong? Yes. Read everything I wrote(more than one post) in it's entire context and you may understand.

Not meaning to bust your balls but how is a manual that is used to prepare to become a rigger(or more precise, to pass the rigger exam) helpful in packing a main parachute for someone that is still without an A license?
-
Who are you responding to? It looks as though you were responding to me. If that is true, you may want to re-read my post. I said nothing about breaking the law, quite the opposite.
-
Yes.

Yeah....soft landings? How do you do it?
timmyfitz replied to shah269's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You don't know what you don't know. Like monkey said....post less, jump more. You may learn something. -
Maybe I'm missing something but how can breaking the law become more(or less) legal and/or ethical. I only break the law a little bit? (it was only cracked not broken)

Question about differences in sea level??
timmyfitz replied to simplechris's topic in Safety and Training
That's what I said. Higher altitude, straight in approach, more speed, less powerful flare than at a lower altitude. Thanks for agreeing with me. -
Question about differences in sea level??
timmyfitz replied to simplechris's topic in Safety and Training
(This all refers to the OP, student canopy, straight in approaches, sea level compared to 4500') The canopy will fly faster at higher altitudes because the air is less dense. For the same reason your flare will be less powerful because the air is less dense. A little speed may help the flare to be more powerful (at lower altitudes) but what you gain from added speed you lose because of the less dense air. -
I wonder if you(or anyone) would feel as strongly about a 3rd party using someone else's property if it was something other than a photo. Something like.....oh I don't know....maybe someone else's music used on a tandem DVD. Not that anyone would do that.
-
Well then.........respond. ?

Too high on final - what are you going to do?
timmyfitz replied to strop45's topic in Safety and Training
Oh, the good old, automotive example again. Sorry, it has nothing to do with aviation. It was a nice try anyway. I don't think he was trying to say driving a car is like skydiving/aviation. More like what happens when one person brakes (S turns) and what happens to others behind that person. The analogy works. It was a nice try and it worked. -
Skydive Chicago or Chicagoland Skydive
timmyfitz replied to bigpapasmurf01's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Really? So they do about 205 tandems a day, every day of the year? I think you may want to check your math. 7,500 sounds more realistic. -
Exactly. But if someone want to make a poll with no correct answer to try to make themselves feel superior, go for it. http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/document/images/declaration_big_enhanced.jpg I think I see a date on this document at the top. The day we celebrate our independence, not the day we celebrate when people signed the document. After all, it is call Independence Day.
-
So please oh great one, tell us why do we celebrate the 4th of July?

From the Cypres manual for the Student model It will activate the EOS when the rate of descent exceeds 29mph (13m/sec). The activation altitude is split. In the case of rate of descent being equal to that of freefall the opening altitude is at approx. 750 feet, being the same as with Expert CYPRES. However, should the rate of descent be lower than that of freefall but still above the limit of 29mph (e.g. with partially opened canopy), then Student CYPRES activates the EOS when the altitude decreases below 1000 feet above ground level.

Tunnel/Freefall time allowed for AFF Instructor
timmyfitz replied to FrflyPimpDaddy's topic in Instructors
Just off hand without putting to much thought into it I would say no to the waver. There is much more experience(not flying your body experience) gained from actually jumping from an airplane and flying a canopy than being in the tunnel. -
Tunnel/Freefall time allowed for AFF Instructor
timmyfitz replied to FrflyPimpDaddy's topic in Instructors
To get a tandem rating you need at least 500 jumps to qualify. That 500 jumps should give you the 6 hours of freefall time needed (unless you do a lot of hop and pops or jump at a Cessna only dropzone- whole different discussion there). So before you start tossing drogues, in most cases, you have already got the 6 hours of freefall. -
Skydiving: Sport or hobby?
timmyfitz replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Using basketball as an example I think we all would agree that basketball is a sport. Whether you play basketball for fun on the weekends or you play competitively in the NBA and get paid to play, basketball is still a sport. One is a hobby (for fun) and the other is a profession. Skydiving is a sport whether you do it for fun on the weekends or you are part of a competitive 4 way team. The question you should be asking is whether skydiving is a hobby or a profession. -
Yeah, like this guy
