Personally I would be for all religion-derived laws and holidays to be void. Freedom of religion is freedom from religion. As for Islam it kind of hard to complain. You already have everything set for Christians and mostly Christian values in public schools. You cant bitch about it if the population has more Muslims and they are going to push for what they want. I went to school in US I don’t remember many Native American holidays, but being in New York we had all the Christian holidays, and in Collage we had the Christian holidays and the Jewish ones. Contrary to some peoples belief I don’t approach any of the debates on here with the mindset of “I must protect my side”. People usually try to make a bad guy(s) and a good guy(s) in their head. Often the characters in real life are a lot more complicated. So true Irans has a bad government, and when it comes to freedom it is much more fucked then the US. At the same time the woman in Iran are not viewed or treated like many on here assume. We have more women in school then men, they have all the rights that men do. For some (insert any religion) add fucked up things they do. There is no point to such an argument. There are some people who do some fucked up shit all over the place. However in this thread he was mentioning Iran. Religion is used to manipulate and do many horrible things. It has been used to justify murder, torture, slavery, etc we can go on forever. The odd thing for me is that this is nothing new. I know from first hand experience that they have enforced such laws from the start. I have personally been arrested for my hair and my clothes before that was 18 years ago when i had first returned to Iran. This is the hardest thing for me to try to explain to any one who has not experience the culture. Islam has a dress code for men and woman. So when it is categorized as just them trying to be dicks to woman it shows the typical western view of a culture they do not understand.. In Islam men and woman are required to keep parts of their bodies that would be enticing to the other sex covered. They want men and woman WHEN iIN PUBLIC to not be viewed as objects Sexual promiscuity is not a badge of honor in our culture. All that said is just to give you a better picture like I said I don’t expect it to make sense to you why people are that way they just are. However I absolutely agree with you that it is a bullshit rule. I don’t agree with anyone telling someone else how they should live their life.
