  1. I believe Terry would have paid to teach AFF. Blue Sky raff If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.
  2. 95% of plaintiffs' attorneys will... As for the 3-5% of plaintiffs' attorneys who might take the case, it's pretty likely that they . 86% of all statistics are made up on the spot. raff If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.

    Vigil

I know of one occasion when an experienced jumper was walking off the landing area with his canopy under his arm and his Vigil fired. Compared to what might have happened, I'd say he was fortunate. raff If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.
  4. Weird! I rely on a piece of gear to save my life on every jump. -there are two kinds of people I can't stand. Tailgaters and those who won't move over when you get right on their ass. If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.
  5. ....sounds more like something that would be said by somebody with much less experience and knowledge of past accidents regarding cameras than I would expect an S&TA to have. One of the problems with posts such as yours, is that it is clear the "smart" S&TA is one who shares your views, and the "dumb" S&TA does or may not. You seem to live in a world of absolutes from which there can be no deviation. In your first jump course, you were told to "flare at [fill in the blank] feet." In fact, you have NEVER flared at that altitude as that number varies every single time you jump. Beginners need an absolute as a point of departure, but one would hope that accumulating information, including differences of opinion, gives the beginner a volume of information with which he/she can make an informed decision. The only advice I usually offer a newbie, is to beware of those who are too fond of "always" and "never." If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.
  6. I'd STILL like to hear exactly what dropzone that was...and give them a call to verify. ~just sayin' What is your stake in this? It sounds like you wish to call the DZ and scold. I do not agree with this policy either, but I respect anyone's right to run his/her business as he sees fit. How about just not patronizing a business with which you don't agree? Your post reminds me of the one suggesting a boycott of the DZ that didn't allow up-jumpers!(?)! If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.
  7. Glad it's the weekend. For the next two or three nights I will read about the needless carnage suffered by people within our sport. All of them will have said at one time or another, that it would not happen to them. Rats! If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.
  8. I have seen the damnedest positions fly perfectly stable and the most perfect-looking positions spin like a Waring Blender. The latter is unually a function a stiffness, and the former of relaxation. I'll take the smiling, relaxed, but perhaps not-so-perfect position anytime vs. the well-arched, but gritted teeth and scared to death when deciding on a release. The relaxed person needs to feel what is going on without being in the grip of JMs before he/she will really "get it." 9. It is too late for a "diplomatic approach." You have chosen to air, in a public forum, that which should have been dealt with behind closed doors in a professional manner. Instead you are trying to conscript allies and the upshot is that you will be perceived as a s--t disturber at best. You might want to inspect your motives for bringing this to the e-world. Hell, your alti could have accounted for the entire disparity. Unless this is all about "winning", get the individual back on your side by apologizing for all of the above ado, and try to determine what would be best for your students. What a concept! 10. Perhaps if you realize that the choices really are "Live or smoke", it will help the resolve. My personal epiphany came when I found myself, sick as hell one day, saying to myself, "I wish I felt better so I could smoke." Good luck. 27 years for me last January. 11. If you want single malt scotch, there are hundreds of great ones from which to choose. Try a trip to Scotland for sampling. If, on the other hand, you wish to suck on a piece of dried-up charcoal, try Laphroaig. It's whats scraped out of the filter during the making of real scotch. 12. While you deny that the original question is a troll, that is exactly what it is. You offer no reason for the question, what you plan to do with the responses/results/"data" you accumulate, or any explanation at all of your agenda. If this is just a moridly curious inquiry, you should identify it as such, but most of us know better. You have already made up your mind and are looking for corroboration. I would discourage responses to this thread unless they contain some corrective/remedial action we all might take. Newly Rated T/M

You will encounter all types and can only prepare yourself as best you are able. But, for goodness sakes, don't cause problems yourself. Every week I work with beginning TIs who insist on doing aerobatic (please read unstable) exits either, because they were asked to by the students, or on their own. I would give you two guidelines: 1. Don't do unstable exits until you are a TI who absloutely cannot be funneled by a student. 2. You will never be the abovementioned TI. raff - 7000 tandems and learning something new every day If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.
  14. 7000 Tandems, 18 reserve rides. Most of these have been due to poor gear maintenance, I am sorry to admit. While the actual mals may be describes as otherwise, beneath it all there have been frequent gear-related issues i.e. attachments points, worn bridles, worn drogues, etc. A gear check will only catch those things you are able to see at that point. Talk to the packers. they are frequently the first line of defense. If you leave the plane without a parachute, you will be fine for the rest of your life.
