  1. Hey why dont you fill out you profile before you start posting about bowling. This sounds like a troll to me guys!
  2. Hey Dumi Good post man. I know we've spoken about this on the DZ with the Joyner bros etc but I think the costs of skydiving in Africa compared to earnings makes it pretty hard for anyone there, race aside. Just look at how much jumping all you saffers get done once the pounds start rolling in. I fully get your point about how it can seem like a wasteful sport - plenty of aviation fuel going up in smoke so divers can fall for a minute or so (not to mention the money that this sport gobbles up) cheers Mike
  3. If you want to get really fancy and cool, make it out of a piece of antler or ivory. Ohhh... Ahhh... Other riggers will be envious! If you want to make your life even more exciting make the handle from ivory and try flying into New Zealand or Australia with it
  4. I used to have the same problem so I'll just expand on what Dave said which is how I was shown to fix it. Once the canopy is in the bag roll the bag on top of the flap and using your knee compress the bag down so that the bands are up against the grommets. It should be easy enough to get the band through and you should have enough slack to easilyget the lines through. If it's a new ZP you may have to sort out any fabric that puffs out first when you roll the bag on to the flap but should be cool after that. good luck
  5. Heres my advice for what it's worth. Talk to your instructor(s ) about this ASAP and ignore advice on this site until you have done so. You probably should have been taught about this in your FJC but you need to get your Instructors to talk you through all the different scenarios. cheers
  6. Good point! I'll check it out when I get home tonight
  7. There has probably already been posts on this topic already so please point me in their direction if so. Anyway my problem (apart from complete ignorance of DVD editing etc) is I'm trying to rip a video of one of my dives off a DVD made by one of the cameramen at my local DZ. I've tried using Nero and DVDshrink but the video stream I get is jumpy like it is skipping or something and the audio is doing the same. Nero is converting it to mpeg4 and dvdshrink is making a VOB. I'm in the UK so it's a PAL video. If I burn a straight copy it's fine but I want to remove the exiting title and add chapters and add in other footage I have. Can anyone offer any help here? Thanks Mike
  8. QuoteI have one too (S2 170) and i love it love it love it! Used to get occasional line twists / turns to the right on opening, but can put that squarely down to body position/what i was doing at opening time. This could be my problem
  9. How much line do you leave between the risers and the last bite? Do you pull the lines coming off the risers all the way down to the bottom of the container? How large of a loop do you leave in the lines when wrapping them with the rubber bands? Are the loops of consistent size? What size rubber bands do you use? If you use medium or large, have you tried the smaller ones? Have you given any thought to what you may be doing differently when you have a good on heading opening? Thanks for these thoughts, it will be useful when I ask for advise from PD. I use small bands. I'll have to focus more on what I do in the packing to see if I can spot some sort of pattern to the different openings.
  10. Ok, I can see that, I just read it a little differently. I'd agree that Sabre2's tend to open with end cell closure, but that's generally after a nice soft opening, especially with a lighter WL.
  11. How does bagging the canopy one corner at a time cause it to dive? If your canopy is opening up quite often with line twists, you haven't solved your packing problems. I dont know how bagging it one corner at a time should make any difference but a rigger at the DZ reviewed my packing and suggested the changes to my packing. As for the line twists - doesnt happen every time maybe 1 in 4 and seems to happen whether i pack it or someone very experienced packs it. I tend to get end cell closures every opening and have heard that I may not be loading this canopy enough. There have been plenty of posts on Sabre 2 openings saying the same sort of thing by others so it doesnt sound like an isolated thing. Interested in your opinion though
  12. Just a thought but getting you to count up to 5000 may be to keep you cool. You may find you count a lot faster than 5 secs. Just MHO
  13. I love my sabre2 170 as well. I think that a large part of my opening problems have been resolved as packing problems. Since I've stopped pushing the nose cells into the pack job and bagged the canopy squarely instead of trying to get one corner of the bag on at a time it's stopped doing the diving off heading opening as it comes out of the snivell. But it does often end up in line twists although as I expect this I can normally control this by spreading the risers as it goes into line stretch.
  14. you may have turn the cartilige between your ribs. I have done this before and Ive broken ribs before and cartilige takes the longest to heal so I hope thats not your case.
  15. IMHO if you live in a Country with dodgey weather like the UK you have to have the patience of a saint to train there so your probably better to go overseas like you did to train. As for getting to meet people there - you just have to put yourself out there. Once you have your own kit and have jumped there for a while it'll definitely seem a lot friendlier.
  16. Hey Sarah Do you cheat then and get packers to pack for you when your in Spain or do you still pack for yourself. Mike
  17. I'm not a huge fan of necklasses so to show people at the DZ I'm a skydiver I put on my rig and jump out of a plane.
  18. I think for me there are no friends under 3000 as that leaves me with about a 2 sec track max.
  19. Are you saying that with procedure #3 if you see a pilot chute in tow then pull the pin and see if you get a deployment or just go straight to EP's afterwards?
  20. In my brief involvement in this sport it appears grounding is a necessary part. It provides an excellent source of conversation and can result in beers being bought for certain offences.
  21. I dont get anywhere near the same buzz/rush after jumping that I did in the first few. I probably enjoy the jump itself more as I'm more aware of the sensations etc but nothing like the I still alive hit I used to get - got to say I miss it.
  22. Probably best to wait til you jump without an instructor. :o)
  23. Contact the guy if you can and put your mind at ease. He's in a power of shit at the moment and his rig is probably the last of his problems. The fact that you took the time to suss him out on it would undoubtably be appreciated.
  24. As i understand it Aitec will service the cypress any time but you will still need another service at the 8yr as in 8yrs from the time of manufacture so the 6months you leave it in the bag wont make any difference to the maintenance schedule. I bought a unit 2nd hand 7.5 yrs old and hadnt been used for 2yrs or so. I had to wait 3 months to send it in for the service + battery. If I had sent it in immediately for a new battery I would of been stung for another battery at the 8yr service even though the battery would only have been 6 months old. But dont trust me - contact Airtec.
