Yes. You are doing something wrong and need further coaching. You are actually making it harder for yourself to flare and you are ingraining a bad habit. Coming in at full speed will give you a more powerful flare than coming in on partial brakes. This will be even more apparent when you transition from a 230 to a 210 like you are planning. Umm... I think you heard wrong. There are a number of telescopes (including the new Great Magellan Observatory) that are using clusters of 8.4 meter mirrors from the Mirror Lab at Steward Observatory in Arizona. Currently, they polish the mirror to a surface smoothness that is within 25nm. 25nm is roughly equivalent to 75 hyrdogen atoms stacked on top of each other. So, no, you can't get that precision with hand polishing. Steward Observatory Mirror Lab FAQ If you go to thier home page, you can see an image of a mirror being polished.

My wife and I just picked up the 17" Mac Book Pro. I'm a diehard fan of XP and Linux, but I'm really, really impressed with OSX and I can't wait to play with the Leopard version when it comes out next year. I installed Boot Camp on her Mac and setup a dual boot with Windows XP to help ease her transition. No major complaints so far!

Breckenridge. Accept no substitutes. Edited to add: If you like seafood, check out the Whale's Tail in Breckenridge village. Great seafood! Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Part of the GK's routine is to simulate a cutaway, IIRC. They use a tertiary rig to do it with. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

With skydiving, the key is body awareness... knowing what is going on with your body at all times. Any MA that focuses on that should be of help.

Are you going to wash the cat every day? Cats instinctually groom themselves constantly and every time that they lick, they lay down more of the FEL d 1 protein in their saliva that people are allergic to. There is a company (Allerca) that is genetically engineering cats that don't have the protein, but I don't know if they're ready to ship yet. Whoa! Slow your roll, cracker. I'm Mexican and I've been very good friends with Amber (Moody) for close to 5 years now. She's definitely not racist / bigoted and to accuse her of that is laughable at best. From what she wrote, I took it as her merely being frustrated with her neighbors playing dumb at not being able to speak english. Her neighbors are being petty and inconsiderate and it reads like they're faking not understanding english so they don't have to be confronted about it. So, their race is germane to her story. Amber, keep your head up, girlie. Let me know how things go once you learn some choice phrases from your dad. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Well said, Dave. Can't wait to run into ya' again at another boogie. And, since Sunny started with the pics, I thought I'd add my own. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Here are some of my faves... -------------------------------------- In his book," Sled Driver," SR- 71/ Blackbird pilot Brian Shul writes: "I'll always remember a certain radio exchange that occurred one day as Walt (his backseater) and I were screaming across Southern California 13 miles high. We were monitoring various radio transmissions from other aircraft as we entered Los Angeles airspace." "Though they didn't really control us, they did monitor our movement across their scope. I heard a Cessna ask for a readout of its groundspeed. "90 knots" Center replied. Moments later, a Twin Beech required the same. "120 knots," Center answered. "We weren't the only ones proud of our groundspeed that day.. as almost instantly an F-18 smugly transmitted, "Ah, Center, Dusty 52 requests groundspeed readout." "There was a slight pause, then the response, "525 knots on the ground, Dusty". "Another silent pause. As I was thinking to myself how ripe a situation this was, I heard a familiar click of a radio transmission coming from my backseater. It was at that precise moment I realized Walt and I had become a real crew, for we were both thinking in unison. "Center, Aspen 20, you got a groundspeed readout for us?" There was a longer than normal pause.... "Aspen, I show 1,742 knots" "No further inquiries were heard on that frequency" ~~~~~~~~~~ In another famous SR-71 story, Los Angeles Center reported receiving a request for clearance to FL 600 (60,000ft). The incredulous controller, with some disdain in his voice, asked, "How do you plan to get up to 60,000 feet? The pilot (obviously a sled driver), responded, " We don't plan to go up to it, we plan to go down to it." He was cleared... Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Nope, wrong word origin, but try again. It actually comes from the sound made by one of the designers when he slapped his hand against the pressurized skin. He called the sound "blimp" and it stuck. Onomotopeia in action. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

My wife and I were really interested in the PS3, and were ready to pre-order, but there's still apparently a lot of bugs to work out. Not to mention the fact that good games really won't start rolling out until a few months after launch. We decided to wait 6-9 months as that sould allow time for some real support and to have the bugs worked out. In the interim, we picked up an XBox 360 and I love this thing. I plugged it into our network and my copy of Vista found it and setup the extenders almost automatically. Now I can stream my movies and music right to the XBox hooked up to our HDTV and you can pick the media items right from the XBox remote. Tres nifty. We will be getting the Wii as soon as it's released though. I just love having a wife who's a geek as well. The xBox was actually her idea. The concept of a 1000' opening is a myth. If someone's canopy takes that long to open, then you're hanging under a snivelling canopy for approx 10 secs or more. At that point, it's called a streamer. A canopy that takes more than 600-700 feet to open needs to be fixed. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
-
Depends on the canopy. My Stiletto is damn snivelly and can take 550-700 feet to open. Student Navigators that I've seen are a bit brisker and were usually open around 400-500 feet. About the same for Manta's as well. Your question is really along the lines of "What is the sound of one hand clapping?" It's really going to vary from canopy to canopy. Even among the same model & size. 500' is a good average though. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Feh...this one's easy. Dear Admissions, Yes, I'm related to Chuck Blue. I'm sorry. Please overlook this fact and let me attend your prestigious university anyway. Regards, Suavel Monkey. Just kidding, but you've really picked a great topic for your admissions essay. Can't wait to read it when you're finished!
