very good point. My first off landing loaded above 2.0 was in a long driveway. had to turn slightly low because of telephone lines you could not see till like 400 '..that taught me a lesson.... "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

Very nice. Don't forget to practice flat turning and accuracy. Those canopies can glide..... Ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

PST Open Freestyle at Perris who's coming?
ramon replied to ramon's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hey, I'll be there from Noon April 21st (my birthday) to Sun eve Apr 25th. I think you and your beau are coming in the following week for the bigways right? maybe I'll see you anyway. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. -
Grega is absolutley right. When turning altitude seems to lenthen or shorten in wind it is usually due to updrafts or downdrafts associated with turbulence. Psychological factors also enter when pilots mess up their set up due to unfamiliar wind conditions and find them selves low or high when they want to turn. my 2 cents. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

I stopped wearing them because of high performance landings (grabs water), hurts to drag toes, crashes hurt my little toes. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

I have about 17 jumps on my 95 loaded at 2.24. The canopy has a lot of flare and lift. It pulls out of a dive less flat than the prototypes, which makes for an easier swoop, but it is still a less steep canopy than other cross braced items. The 95 definitely likes to be carved as opposed to a hard diving hook (easier to stay in a dive). To quote a horribly over used cliche the canopy seems to "fly bigger" than some other cross braced items. I think this is due to the high lift produced, but..anyway it seems very capable of slow flight in addition to fast flight, which makes me more confident in an "off landing" situation. The static stall speed seems to be lower than a similarly sized canopy and so I can stay in a surf a little longer before I have to put my feet down. (and when dialed in right it is a very long surf

Wow...Can you say butt pads? Brave pilots downwinding in that. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

if you are going to do solos here are some solo drill dives. dive 1, check heading (pick cloud or direction), check alti, check heading again, and adjust back to original. repeat until checking alti does not mess up heading. dive 2 (first get someone to show you how to do a cartwheel) check heading, left cartwheel, check heading, right cartwheel, check alti. repeat all the way down. take note if you are better in one direction than the other and practice it more. dive 3 (once you know how to do front/back flips and cartwheels). check heading, left cartwheel, heading, right cartwheel, heading, front flip, heading, back flip, heading check alti.. repeat all the way down. Once you can do all this you are a stable fucker. Here is a 2 way drill dive for sit. dive 1 : go out in a train so that you are close together. touch toes with partner, do a 360 then touch toes again, check alti. repeat all the way down. don't be afraid to crash into your partner while in a sit, it is all part of staying stable if you get knocked. this dive is good for moving forward, keeping levels and staying stable. good luck after you mastered these dives you can try docking and more complex stuff. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

Hey Bryan... Who is Shannon? Is she hot? ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

Lots of freeflying in San Marcos. Sweet. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

Lucky me..yes.

Me and Bryan's new ones are white with orange ribs (inlcuding orange wingtip), black cross bracing, and big black diamonds. It is pretty aggressive looking. "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

The swoop...cheating down from a high jack
ramon replied to deurich2003's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
the canopy does not know how hard the wind is blowing (only if it is turbulent). It is either psychological, or it is pilot error (it is more difficult to set up in conditions that you are not used to, you may be getting low), or you tend to turn more gradually on low wind days and really snap it on higher wind days. downward rotors off of objects can definitley keep the canopy in a dive a little longer and so it is more dangerous to do a hard snap with a steep dive in those conditions. probably better to do a grdual carve to maintain the prospect of recovery and just learn to be more accurate in your carve. just my 2 cents -
I think it should have neon green in it ;-) Actually something that shows off the cross bracing is probably best achieved with the light cor skins and dark bracing and diamonds. white and blue sounds good. ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

For what its worth. I jump a comp cobalt 105 loaded at 2.1. I already had a cazer pilot chute (which is what is recommended). I take 3-4 inch line bites which is what the old Alpha manual recommended and I use small rubber bands (also recommended). My D bag is sized for a 150 so the canopy is loose in it (can cause harder openings) I have had like 2 hard openings out of 300 jumps and both I had not taken the time to slow down from a freefly. Typically my canopy opens more slowly than I want and I try to speed it up. I dump in a track all the time or not, it does not matter on my canopy. I have light riser pressure, flat glide and can slow the canopy down fairly well considering it is a non cross braced parachute loaded so high. I have jumped a 135 and a 120 with no problems what so ever except I wanted a little more speed. Bloo skies Ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.

Anyone going to go get wet with me and make the pros laugh? I can get freaky styley but there might be a big splash. Ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. -
Best riser pressure on a lightly loaded canopy?
ramon replied to cielo's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Cobalts have light riser pressure. Also you may be able to find used Alphas or Spaces or vipers which are very similar parachutes, all have very light front riser pressure compared to a stilleto. Good luck Ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. -
Your Canopy Risk Quotient? :Parachutist 03/04
ramon replied to sarge's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I am at 39 which seems to be about the norm for experienced current and schooled pilots with high wingloadings. I definitely see that I am higher risk than if I were flying a larger canopy. I also see that my friend who is loaded higher than me and is very uncurrent would be "scary". ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce. -

Does anyone ever jump with video settings on anything other than full wide... ie slight zoom? Example being for videoing sky surf or freestyle, the particpants can move away quickly and look small in the camera. Does nayone ever adjust the zoom in closer.. or do you just attempt to fly closer. thanks ramon "Revolution is an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment.", Ambrose Bierce.
