Are AADs required in (Your country here)
velo90 replied to skypuppy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In Germany. No national policy apart from mandatory for students. Some DZ's have their own AAD requirements. -
What makes an experienced skydiver?
velo90 replied to droquette's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There are 2 things that you must do on each skydive in order to survive. One is to deploy a landable canopy and two is the land that canopy safely. There is only one thing you must do on each skydive in order to survive - "land the canopy safely". -
They sort of look pretty frayed in parts. Should I replace the whole line set or just the steering lines? Could wait until they fall apart I suppose. Don't use them that much anyways.

Blah, blah... I thought the question was "What makes an experienced skydiver?", not "What makes an expert skydiver?". Pay attention please. -

Agreed! That covers about 99% of all DZ.com arguments. -

Which really goes back to what I said. It depends from where, and what, you are judging. As far as jump numbers go here is a simple formula :- Your Jump No's - 10% = inexperienced. Your Jump No's + 10% = experienced. Works for nearly everyone! If comparing jump numbers does not provide an acceptable result, change jump numbers to "years in sport". Attacking fellow skydivers based on "experience" is a favourite pastime of the more "experienced" skydivers. This is why, when DZ.com rated posters on the number of posts made, the "experienced" who could not type very fast got rather frustrated. After much lobbying they got their wish and profiles with jump numbers and years in the sport were introduced. The "very experienced" take great pleasure out of leaving their profiles blank. This is not to say that everyone with no profile is "experienced" - as an example take a look at my profile. -

Yeah, but the vast majority are not around after a few years because they got a life, not becaused they bounced. -

The one eyed skydiver is king in the land of the blind. It all depends from where you are judging. -
Do you think alti awarness is something your are born with, or is it something your learn? Do people with better eyesight have an advantage in alti awarness? Thanks.

got my fish eye in for head cam wooo hooo
velo90 replied to kingcloud14000's topic in Photography and Video
I just wanted to add that although I started jumping camera early, I did not use any sort of sight until I had over 700 jumps. At the start of video flying the camera work is secondary. You learn for the first few hundred jumps body position and safety aspects of camera flying. Also, no wing suits, one thing at a time. -
It's not my exit photo, but a photo I took Enjoy

I had that Jekyl and hyde problem when I was doing S/L progression. I would start driving home and suddenly find myself at the DZ. Then I would say I am only here to watch and suddenly find myself manifested Made it in the end though and now the problem is I drive to work and end up at the DZ

Speedy, I can't help saying that you are talking utter nonsense. No one disagrees with themselves. Dont forget to keep taking the tablets. Edited to add: Sorry speedy I did not realise you are me

SIM Recommendation for two canopies out.
velo90 replied to genoyamamoto's topic in Safety and Training
Really? That's not what the PIA dual square report suggests. They had 11 out of 11 cases of main interference with the reserve when they did that... I've attached the report. t The 11 out of 11 was referring to a cutaway from a Bi-Plane. Even so, you are correct in that they do not recommend a cutaway from a side by side, unless it starts to develop into a down plane. -
NSFW!!!!!!!!! Nice though

cutaway charges for rented gear
velo90 replied to flyuphi99's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Maybe to solve such problems in the future they could offer an optional insurance. A reserve happens according to stats 1 in a 1000 (?) jumps. You lose the main say 1 in 500 cutaways. So a dollar a jump insurance should work out to the renters advantage. You say that the main had 1000's of jumps on it, this makes me wonder how many jumps the pilot chute had on it. A worn out pilot chute is a possible cause of bag lock and in this case I would not pay as the gear was faulty. -
I did not mean to side track the thread, It's just that jump numbers keep getting quoted as the reason, but so much more info was given. Reading what I quoted above, there is no way they would be jumping at my home DZ. A 9 month break is a good enough reason to upsize for a few jumps. I can't say I see this trend for small X-braced here in Germany. Most jumpers I know here at around 400 jumps will be jumping a square or eliptical loaded no more than 1.4.

It's based on Craig Poxon's post earlier in this thread. Actually Craig does have a reputation for reporting things just before they happen.

Maybe we won't know who posted the 1,000,000th but HH might know. I wonder, if a thread is deleted, does the count go down? Maybe the site has a 1M post bug, a bit like the year 2000 bug. When that post is made it could be the end of the world
