When did you go over 1.4 W/L??
velo90 replied to frankiebrina's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What do you mean by "out hook" ? Do you mean turn lower? or swoop further? or swoop faster? or land more accurately? Sorry but "out hook" does not mean anything to me -

It may be the latest, but is it the greatest? Sort of like the Vigil if you know what I mean

Wrong. Think of a balloon drifting with the wind at 25 kts. In fact the wind is 25kts all the way down to the ground. You have a ground speed of 25 kts. How much horizontal seperation do you have with an 8 second delay? KALLEND! This your job! Edited to add: This link might help.

You mean the wheel was turning, but the hamster was dead?

Ohh I thought it was an American dropzone where they train the students on stiletto's

I jumped a Nitro which had ~800 jumps on one line set. It was probaly too many as two lines broke on opening which lead to my 1st reserve. Edit to add; If you look at my post and the post above from bjornufknu , you can see that although it's possible, it's perhaps not the best thing to do.

How to sink in a X-braced wing?
velo90 replied to Swoopthereitis's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
1. The largest RW group goes 1st because they generally need the most time for the climb out. This means they can be climbing out before they reach the start of the spot. 2. Freefly after RW is because of freefall drift. 3. Students and Tandems next not because of vertical seperation, it is because they pull high and have a better chance of getting back to the DZ on a long spot. 4. Wing suiters last because they can take a really long spot 5. Dunno about skysurfers. They have gone 1st at my dropzone, but that's because it's the only way they can gear up and exit. -
It is a function of aircraft groundspeed, not airspeed and time betweeen exits. It is a function of aircraft speed relative to the air where you are going to open your canopy. Not ground speed and not aircarft airspeed.

Yep, you are right, I sort of forgot that students can't land. If you can land then it does not make any difference (on big canopies), unless you land in water. Glug glug glug....
-
I can also see the advantage in this when one considers what type of student tends to fall slowly.
-
Good point, I did not think of that. Yep, but if there is a chance of landing in water they should have a life vest, if not, the point is mute. Even so, do your instructors sometimes use wing suits? Also I can see, freefly suit and swoop cords would be enough.

When you are jumping a PD mega square feet it does not matter that much if you have 20 lbs of lead with you, at least not if you only weigh 100 lbs. Yes, lead is a last resort, dressing for sucess is the good option. Finding the right instructor for the student is a better option. But surely you cannot compromise saftey just for the sake of a weight vest/belt. Again, I am not an AFF instructor, this is just my intuition speaking.
-
And how tall was she? I was looking at the weight and height. There is nothing wrong with wearing lead. If an AFF instructor decides to add weight to ensure a safe fall rate he should do it. Alas I am not an AFF instructor, but I am sure there are a number out there that would back me up on this.
-
Right on, I would do my first and last base jump, without fear of arrest
-
I think if I recieved such devastating news I would..... Commit suicide .... Haaa I win , no one tells me when I am going to die
-
She must me doing S/L and not AFF. Otherwise the instructors would have loaded her up with lead to get a half decent fall rate and then she is over the 0.42 I seen people land 400 sqft canopies with no problem. Like after the Tandem master unhooked me at 5000 ft

New canopy Shouldn't you be saving your money for a wedding ?

So the easy way to get all your posts deleted would be to add on the end of every thread where you posted a personal attack. Hey presto, all your posts are deleted A time consuming operation for some though

After jumping a VX 99 I can see where you are coming from, such a nice well behaved canopy. Not nearly as dangerous as my Velocity 90 No really, the VX 99 would be my canopy of choice for video Just need to get Gerd to sell it cheap Go cross braced as soon as you can

Wow, a couple of years from now you can start them on Katana's. That will at least keep the Russians happy
