Manufacturers Change Look of AR-15; Rifle Is Now Legal in New York State Pass a stupid law, get a stupid result. This, Clash Daily reports, is a remodeled AR-15, and it is legal in New York despite the state’s “assault weapons” ban And one of the idiots who helped pass a law to ban "scary looking" cosmetic features: Gun Control Activist swears he forgot he was carrying a gun while visiting a school Talk about someone who doesn't have the courage of his convictions. Hopefully now he'll have a conviction, lose his license, and be right where he wasn't a everyone else: deprived of rights. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Using Google and Saving Published Documents Now a Crime in France, too

Abandoned property is fair game in pretty much every jurisdiction. If it weren't, how could law enforcement ever use that exception to fourth amendment protections? Coming back to data (not physical property), if it is published to public facing internet, there cannot be any reasonable argument that reading it is stealing. (courts have not caught up to this fact yet, but courts have been wrong before and will be again) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Granted. But at least in that case both server and client are involved in and charged with a crime. I really don't see how receiving can be a crime when sharing isn't. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

[complete side note] What, you've never used a VPN? I have. In fact I run one at home that I only use for laptop and mobiles when using other wifi (unlike the ignorant, I prefer not to broadcast my passwords, emails, and other data in the open). I've also used foreign ones to see content that I don't see from home, or to see what happens when a foreign IP looks at a domestic project, and if I go overseas again, just using my home VPN will be "using a foreign IP" in that country's eyes. Do you think krebs or anyone else in security work only use their local IP? Add to that the fact that the guy wants to connect with journalists. Any journalist worth his notebook should know about establishing (relatively) safe and private communications. Back to the point: do you think punishing someone for looking at data published to the internet and cached by Google should be a crime? Seems to me that the crime (I any) was commited by whatever dumbass published private or protected data to the internet. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

This is why all interrogations should be video taped and all witness statements should at least be recorded for audio (detectives and at-station interviews). There really isn't any reason not to force this into policy. There's no excuse. Side note: each state should work to reduce/eliminate their DNA backlogs. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Real question: why is any benefit in this area of tax funded assistance able to be turned into cash? Why not prevent cash withdrawal from all these sorts if programs? I'm not saying remove benefits or don't, but why not keep them on the card? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Hey, I'm perfectly willing to go with the alternative of taking thumbprints. Yet I was shouted down more strongly for that than requiring down form of ID. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Because, for some, it really is. In part, it's because many poorer people living in inner-urban areas who don't drive and rely on public transportation are part of an economic sub-group who often don't have any need for a government-issued photo ID. Oftentimes, by the time they're adults, the raised-stamp birth certificate that had been given to their mother when they were born has long since been lost; and frequently they don't have, for example, utility bills in their own names. So first (to get a govt photo ID) they have to jump through hoops to get the "acceptable" documents to support their identification and place of residence. Next, they have to take the time to take public transportation well out of their neighborhood down to (usually) a DMV or similar office. So even if the govt photo IDs are offered for free, the hassles to get one are sufficient to make a lot of folks in this sub-group to say the hell with it and not bother. The end result is their effective disenfranchisement. And, not coincidentally, most of this sub-group historically tends to trend Democratic. Cry me a river. Going to the DMV or other govt office is a pain in the rear for everyone. To me, saying it's not worth it to get an ID to vote is no different than saying it's not worth it to vote. Choosing not to register, not to get an absentee ballot, not to get an ID (if required), or any other choice is NOT the same as disenfranchisement. I didn't vote in the last election because I chose to travel on short notice just before election day and hadn't gotten an absentee in advance. I wasn't disenfranchised; I chose not to participate. Big difference. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Don't get me wrong, I'm right there with you on the "literacy test" nonsense. (For the republicans in the room, how many of you speak Greek?) Disenfranchisement is not my bag, baby. I just can't understand why anyone acts like getting an ID is so damned difficult. When it comes to cutting the told or blocking voter access, wrong is as wrong does. But why the opposition to ID requirement? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

My fault for not proof reading. Shouldn't have been capital F. I was hinting at "If they can dye it green on St Patty's Day, why can't they dye it blue other times of year?" witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Why is voting different from every other interaction with government? Why do I need to prove my identify for everything else except voting? Hmm, voting is a right.... you know, I can think of a number of other constitutional/civil rights that I cannot exercise without an ID and often paperwork or payments. Why is getting an ID considered a burden for voting but nowhere else? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

You've made up your mind to ignore science, math, and statistics in favor of... whatever you base your decisions on. You do not appear to be asking for information; it looks like you asked a question just so you can attack answers you don't agree with and proselytize your own views. Quick question: can you imagine ANYTHING that ANYONE can say that might make you change your mind? There's a difference between surveillance of targets and maintaining internal control of contractors. Snowden exploited internal security gaps and the failure to abide by best practice security guidelines. What's that got to do with the NSA watching "interesting" folks? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Other forensic examiners have seen the symptoms, I don't think anybody including Ruiu has actually seen the cause(s) in code. Side note: who doesn't think the NSA watch our domestic security researchers VERY closely? Wouldn't it make sense to watch the guys who know how attacks work and and Might find something they haven't seen yet? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

For the tldr crowd: Author wants some unknown and unidentified power to seize and redistribute all wealth and property to fight global warming and pollution. Complete socialism under the iron fist of the ruling/deciding class. Left unsaid is who will make the decisions, how they'll coerce those who refuse to go along, and what happens to quality of life when there are more humans than available resources. What's he want, mud huts and homicide to enforce populations limits? No solutions are given other than "capitalism bad, give world control to people who agree with me." The article is standard issue left wing fringe drivel from a guy who grew up with the benefits of capitalism but hates capitalism. Congratulations on your PhD in history. For the side of the story Scahill wouldn't give you, consider going through something like Civilian Warriors. Or try talking to people who have worked and trained with Blackwater. Or the people they protected. Or the folks who relied on them for food and other consumables in the desert. Or the police officers who credit their survival to training provided by Blackwater or instructors trained by them. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

This is it. Even if he didn't give the specific order (which I'm not yet willing to grant), this thing lasted for 4 days; Christie wasn't aware of it while it was ongoing? Of course he was. More to the point, he nurtured and nourished a culture in his office of "let's fuck those guys" for retribution, and he's most certainly responsible for that. His throwing aides, etc. under the bus, while professing personal purity and virginity, is revolting. Not unlike the scene in Casablanca where the corrupt Vichy police commander professes to be "shocked, shocked, that gambling is going on" in Rick's nightclub, and then accepts his own gambling winnings. Not quite yet. Let's baste him some more. Replace Christie with Obama and tell me if you still feel the same way. [/partisan attack] Back on topic, Christie is a huge POS, but so is almost every candidate for NJ governor and NJ federal office. I can't remember the last one that I though was a decent human being. Corzine CERTAINLY does not fit that description. Bill Bradley, Menedez, Pallone, Toricelli, or Lautenberg either. I still can't figure out how he was even allowed to run when law prohibited his entry. I had hopes for Forrester, but not much. I'm glad I don't vote there anymore; I don't miss having to crawl through the gutter each election cycle to find the least revolting choice. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Kennedy replied to wmw999's topic in Speakers Corner
While I agree with you in broad strokes, there's a problem with guys like him saying all compromise is good. He's lying, either to himself or to us. OK, your position is that you should not be in prison. My position is that you should serve 25 to life. Let's compromise. I'm sure we can reach a mutually acceptable compromise. Oh, and whatever time of incarceration we agree on you serving, the day you get out, I'm going to want to talk to you again and reach a new compromise about how much more time you should serve. Compromise is great, huh? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Any nominations? Right now I'd say they're considering Iran, Syria, various parts of Africa from Mali to CAR to South Sudan et alia, and worrying about China. The problem for the US is not military victory. They can stomp almost any country in about two weeks. The problem is what to do with it after you beat up on the political and military structure. In that area, the US hasn't done well since what, WWII? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
