  1. I got my suit from Bev Suits, the Polycotton Suit which has the description of "For the mature skydiver with a lower center of gravity, or the faster-falling skydiver." IE. big guys. I got it with swoop cords and afterburners which are pockets on the legs that help slow you down. I also didn't get the inside-the-chest pocket, instead I got one put on the outside of each thigh. Things I like: it's well built, everything seems really strong, I'm not concerned about it falling apart at the seams, etc. The swoop cords really work, that little bit of extra drag does come in handy. Things I dislike: I don't like the material that was used for the cuffs on the wrists. It snags on the velcro of my gloves and is getting kinda frayed out. Once it gets really bad, I'll take it to a local tailor and have the cuffs replaced with something non-stretchy that I can velcro shut. I also did not get booties, and kinda wish I had; however, since I didn't, the suit just ended straight-legged at the bottom of the legs, no elastic or anything. I ended up threading a stretch cord through each leg cuff so that I could tighten them down so they don't end up falling down over my shoes when I'm not wearing my rig. Overall I'm pretty happy with it, I'd buy another suit from them.
  2. When Steph (my wife) broke her ankle, they told her anywhere from "at least 18 months, mabye never again" (ER doc) to "four to six months" (surgeon.) She made her first jump at six weeks - with the surgeon's blessing. Everybody heals differently... just wait and see.
  3. My wife and I jump together, neither of us is worried about the chance that we could both die at the same time during a jump. The odds of that are awfully small... and going back to the tired old argument about whether jumping or driving is safer, I bet we're less likely to both die during a jump than we are driving to the dropzone.

    Floats game

don't see this one posted.. http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/g3/floats.htm
  5. If you like military sci-fi, check out John Ringo and/or David Weber. Both fun reads, neither one makes you think too much (mind candy can be a good thing )
  6. My wife and I both wear snowboarding helmets also, both ours are made by Boeri. How do you tell what the liner is made of? Also, I'd like to replace both our chin straps as they don't hold as well as I'd like, what buckle would you recommend I look at for one-handed use?
  7. I think the whole series is very good but as Tom said, the tone changes as the series progresses. Regardless, some of the best sci-fi I've ever read (and I've read a lot of it )
  8. Very cool When are you going to come out to Coolidge?
  9. We have a trailer at the DZ (pop-up tent trailer) so if we're going to stay overnight we have a safe place for the kids to sleep (as well as for us.
  10. We bring our kids to the DZ almost every time we go. However, when we're jumping, we either take turns or we have a babysitter watching them. As has been mentioned before, it depends on the DZ - we're very fortunate in that ours is kid-friendly.
  11. 3840x1024 + 1024x768, L-shape.
  12. I have a pair of WileyX XL-1 goggles that are prescription. The lenses on those goggles are removable, so I just had a pair of prescription lenses made to fit. The goggles were not that expensive, so if I tear them up I'll just buy another pair and swap the lenses over.
  13. That rodeo jump was a blast. Steph is doing really well with it... I wish she wouldn't push it quite so hard tho... I'm afraid she's going to reinjure it.
  14. What's the actual cost over 12 years tho? $1200 up front, plus two service checks, plus batteries - how much do those add?
  15. I use a pair of WileyX XL-1 goggle/sunglasses. The nice thing about them is that the lenses are interchangable - mine are prescription for example. They sell them with polarized lenses if you want. http://www.wileyx.com/xl1.php
  16. And in that same line of thinking... The Oprahsitory
  17. [replyI need to get some skychicks to jump down in coolidge with me this next weekend...so I'm not the ONLY woman on my #100! Oh...but on second hand...wait a second...only female, 10-15 other jumpers all jumping with me - all male...tee hee... never mind. Elfanie == skyslut
  18. You stunk up that airplane BAD tho... Oh, wait... that was me.
  19. Nah, he doesn't qualify for Darwin. He can still reproduce. Now, if he'd put the nailgun to his crotch...
  20. Also, adjustable doesn't mean infinitely adjustable - the location of the chest strap isn't adjustable against the size of the harness, for example. You may just be too big for the adjustable harness as well - I had that problem on the student gear - the chest strap was too high for me on that as well, and it had the adjustable MLW.
  21. Aubrey, have you been measured for a container at any point? The problem I have is that the container I'm jumping has a 19" harness, while my torso measures 22". For me, what that means is that everything gets shifted around up higher in the front - the rings are basically on top of my shoulders and the top of the chest strap is right at my armpits, mabye even a little higher than that. The only thing that I've been told can help a little is to make sure your legstraps are really tight (which it sounds like yours are.) That harness is probably too short for you. You should get measured and see what your torso measurement comes out to. Edited to add: I had my rigger talk to RWS about moving the chest strap down a bit, no luck, it involves too many changes to the gear.
  22. Could have been worse... they could have hit her with Intent to Distribute Pain Reliever in a Public School. I think that's 20-to-life in Federal prison now.
