  1. How about the skytronic audible? Is it any good?
  2. Anyone know if a canopy control class is offered in Eloy?
  3. How much "real world proof" will you need before you're willing to equip your wife's rig with a Vigil?
  4. If you keep your mouth open in freefall, wonder if they'll whistle.
  5. Ah, that stinks. I hate it when life gets in the way of having fun.
  6. If I remember right, they have to have 10 jumpers to fly the King Air. Probably do weekdays in the Cessna tho, if you call down there. Have you done a hop-n-pop yet?
  7. I guess I fit this category. I am about 265 now, so exit weight of about 295. On a couple jumps this weekend I lurked RW pairs, let them go out first, gave them a couple second headstart, then dove after them. That was fun.

    bloody hell

Think of a UPS as the teenager of the battery world. They whine like crazy when forced to do any actual work.
  9. I did the exact same thing on my AFF1 jump.
  10. My wife and I are both working towards our A licenses right now. One of the requirements is a braked approach and landing. It was described to us as "half brakes to 40 feet altitude, let up, then flare out normally." Sounds basically the same.
  11. Mabye I'll try it for my 100th jump. ;) I don't want to be unsafe.
  12. With my current weight, I would be at about 1.3:1 on that 230. On the 281 reserve, I'd be at about 1:1. That's no different than someone who uses a 120 as a main and a 143 as a reserve, the variation is the same, I just weigh more. :) I'm not planning on being on that 230 anytime soon anyway. I was mostly just wondering whether you could get a container sized that way, obviously you can.
  13. No, he's not suggesting that I'm ready for it now. I'm not. It's more just planning ahead - the DZ has a Nav 240 as well, I figure I will work down to that one first, mabye in another 20-30 jumps or so, then mabye to the 230 as my 100th jump or some such. I don't want to get hurt, obviously. I don't think it's a situation where he's trying to sell me something just to get rid of it - I've watched him work with other students not just myself, and I've never seen him push anything that was too much. On the other hand, I HAVE seen him disallow things that he considers too dangerous for someone's skill level, I trust him not to get me hurt by putting me on equipment that would be unsafe for me to jump.
  14. Defensive lineman? Nah, just big. :) I weigh about 265. I've been talking with my DZO, he has a new Silhouette 230 he thinks would be perfect for me, so I think I will work my way down to that. Gonna be a while longer tho, I have 15 jumps now, all on a Nav 260.
  15. I'm thinking about going with a 230 Silhouette main and a 281 PD reserve. Most of the containers I've seen specs for online seem to be sized for either the same size main and reserve or a smaller reserve. For example, a Vector 358M has a 230 Silhouette and a 218 reserve as the recommended size combination. How do you figure out a container size if the reserve is somewhat bigger? Go to the next size up container?
  16. Looking at PD's site - max for the 106/113 is 220, 126-253 is 254, the 281 has a max of 300. I'm looking at going with a Silhouette 260 as my main and a 281 Reserve.
  17. It's funny... when I asked PD what they'd recommend, the Silhouette was the immediate answer. They also told me that they're not as popular in the US as some others. However, when I've asked around, seems like a LOT of people have jumped one.
  18. Phil, I've pretty much come to the same conclusion, that the Silhouette is the way to go. I called PD and talked to them about it for a while, their immediate recommendation was the Silhouette also. Supposedly it lands about the same as a Navigator of the same size, a little more forward speed, and turns more crisply.
  19. three 17" LCD monitors at 1280x1024, one at 1024x768, it sits on a shelf above the other three. I chose "Other"

  21. what's the difference in construction between this one and PD's Reserve?
  22. I use a pair of those. I had a set of prescription lenses made for them, they work great.
