Recent Para Commander Jumps?
freefaller76 replied to freefaller76's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Check out these links. It looks like Pioneer Aerospace still makes a version of the Para Commander. http://www.pioneeraero.com/2-11_pio_par.htm http://www.pioneeraero.com/2-5_fre_fal.htm -
Who is the world record holder for the most jumps?

Does Alti-2 still service Altimaster V's?
-
I am currently looking into buying an altimeter. I know that the Altimaster III Galaxy is good up to 18,000'. What about the Altimaster V and the FT-50? I know that they both read up to 12,000' but can they be used above that?

I must sadly say that after 30+ jumps I still have not mastered the stand up landing and a PLF has saved my ass (well....ankles anyways) more than once. Especially if you flare too high!

When was the ram air canopy first developed? How did it differ from today's canopies?
-
Thanks, a big help! But for the newbie enquiring mind, answers inevitably lead to more questions! Why then would 7 cell F-111's be the most popular choice for reserves? Is it becuase they are cheaper to make and easier to pack? (I've heard that ZP canopies are harder to pack). As for ZP, thanks for the info. I've only ever jumped student canpoies (Manta/Laser) which I believe are F-111. I hope to jump a ZP sometime soon and see what the difference is.

This may seem like a stupid question, but what is the difference between main and reserve canpoies? Are they built differently? Could you use a reserve canopy packed in your container as your main? The reason I ask is because reserves seem to be cheaper than mains. What's the diff?

Just bought one? Where? How much? What kind of container are you putting it in? -

What's the difference between spectra and dacron lines?

I just got off student status and plan to buy a jumpsuit this winter. I am told that I fall fast because I tend to arch pretty hard. I've heard that the type of jumpsuit you buy can make a big difference. What kind of fabric/fit should I be looking at? A loose fit to produce more drag? Furthermore what's the story on "booties"? Do they help any? Any recommendations for a first jumpsuit (ie Tony Suit, Flight suit, etc?) I would eventually like to get into RW.

AFF repeats and remembering procedures
freefaller76 replied to Brodes's topic in Safety and Training
Just finished PFF this summer and I had the same problem. I found some of the jumps "stressful" because you have so much to remember. Once I finished, I did a few solo jumps before moving on to coached jumps to gain a little confidence on my own. I found it very relaxing and fun because I did what I wanted and didn't have to worry about passing/failing anything. -
What Jump Did The Nerves Go Away
freefaller76 replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I just started this summer and I must say that every jump still makes me nervous. I have about 30 jumps in total. I find that I get really nervous in the plane but once the door opens I'm fine (too late to turn back!). It's probably good to be nervous. You're more likely to be cautious when you are nervous about it. I think that little bit of fear each time I jump makes me respect the sport that much more.... -
What is the difference between a 7 vs 9 cell canopy? Do they handle the same? Is their an advantage to flying 7 vs 9 cells?
-
How often do they run CSPA rigger 'A' courses? I haven't heard of one being run since the mid-nineties (in Eastern Canada anyways). Anyone heard of any upcoming courses?

what canopies do the military use??? not rounds!
freefaller76 replied to TheJokergs's topic in Gear and Rigging
Canadian Military freefallers use the CT-6. It's a 370 sq ft ram air manufactured by Irvin industries (you can get the specs on their web site). Similar to the US Army MT-1xx I believe. -
Recent Para Commander Jumps?
freefaller76 replied to freefaller76's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
When was the last time anyone seen someone jump a Para Commander? Anyone know of someone jumping one recently (the past few years)? Given that they were last manufactured about 20 years ago is it likely that there are any still out there that are jumpable? Just curious. -
I am in the market for gear and am trying to make a decision between a round or a square reserve. I would be interested in talking to anyone out there who jumps a round reserve and why they chose it over a square one. Furthermore, if you jump a round reserve, what type is it? Are they still manufactured? What do they cost? What are the best ones to go with? As a military jumper, I have a few static line jumps on a CT-1 (similar to the US T-10). I assume that a civilian round reserve would handle pretty much the same as a military chute. Thoughts?
