Top stuff, thanks mate

Cheers. Sounds like a few variables so I think I'll just have to try and find a 135 I can try in it.

Good point, cheers. I can't remember the DoM but I want to say it was relatively recent (around 2016 I think)

Hi guys, Recently got back into the sport and I'm needing gear. I previously jumped a 120 and I'm probably not going to be comfortable jumping something that size for a little while so I'm looking at something second hand that can hold a 150 initially for 50 jumps or so and then hold a 135 for a bit. I'll then probably order a new custom rig that will fit a 120. I'm currently looking at a second hand V348. The UPT chart shows the 150 as the standard fit which is all good but I'm wondering how something like a Crossfire 139 would go in it? My instincts say it should be fine but I don't really want to find out it's no dice and have to go to another second hand rig before getting down to the 120. Any insight for people with a v348 would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Here's the other good thing about doing it this way. Removal from office requires a 2/3rds majority but, because disqualification is a discretional judgement, it only requires a majority vote. https://law.justia.com/constitution/us/article-2/49-judgment-removal-and-disqualification.html Agreed on the Harrison thing. Pence would have to live with that knowledge too whereas Harrison didn't :)

Same reason for impeaching Trump - to ensure he doesn't 'serve' again.

I'm afraid you're most definitely wrong on that one. It's already happened before with Ulysses S Grant's War Secretary, William Belknap. https://twitter.com/RWPUSA/status/1347175275654746112?s=20

Impeachment needs to happen, whether it happens in the next 2 weeks or after he leaves office, in order to ensure he can never hold elected office again. While I'd worry about the next two weeks, I think impeaching him after he leaves office is actually the plan most likely to succeed. They'll need some Republicans to go along with it in order to get to a 2/3rds majority and I think most would be skittish about the optics of removing him from power. Once he's gone I think they'll be only too happy to oblige if it means he can never run again and, given the general lack of interest in being informed, most people won't even know it happened.

Don't have a recommendation as I just recently got back into the sport and, before I stopped jumping, barely anyone wore shoes. The odd pair of Tevas maybe :)

My concern is more around the lethality of it. To date, the mutations don’t seem to be more lethal, just more transmissible. No guarantee that future mutations don’t go the other way and full vaccination will take years, if it is ever even completed.
-
You're absolutely right, but it's magnified at the moment. My hope is that once he's out it will start to whittle away to irrelevance. Who knows whether that'll happen.
-
That’s the theory. Unless the spike protein changes and the immune response it no longer able to target it. Unsure what the chances of that would be with a mutation. I’m guessing possible but unlikely. At the end of the day though, until we have a concerted international effort to eradicate this quickly, and across the third world too, we’re at risk of ongoing mutations that could make the virus resistant.

I’m not even American but, man, can I not wait for 20th Jan when all this idiocy stops. I think some of these people sincerely believe he’s getting a second term so, hopefully, it’s enough to shake the cult out of their collective madness when they see he’s talking crap. Maybe just too far gone at this stage.

Ah, one other question. I can't find my logbook (not that I kept it up to date very well anyway) but I luckily have my D license. Obviously I'll need to get a new logbook but any thoughts on where I should start it back up in terms of jump numbers? i.e. should I start it at around my real jump numbers or from the minimum numbers to qualify for a D license?

Hi guys, I'm getting back into the sport after a long layoff. I last jumped in 2004 (around 1100 jumps) but my skydives were few and far between since 1999ish as I was pretty exclusively doing BASE, so let's say 20 years since I was properly current. I moved continents in that time so haven't jumped here in Sydney. I've spoken to the CI here and an online AFF refresher and a couple of JM assessments was proposed. I've done the online course and everything's fresh in my mind and I'm looking to do the jumps this week. I did 15 minutes in the tunnel and actually was better than I remember myself being belly to earth (pretty exclusively freefly since A license) so, although I was barely able to walk for a couple of days, I have no confidence issues when it comes to the assessment and I feel that the freefall side of things will be all muscle memory and come back quickly. My question is more about getting close to where I was under canopy. I don't have my rig anymore so I'm not forced to get straight back on my old Stiletto 120 but I'm wondering whether I'm likely to feel comfortable to get back on something smallish pretty quickly or if I'm more likely to need several hundred jumps progressing from bigger canopies and should therefore look to buy something in the 150ish range after some jumps on rented gear down to 170? Sorry, pretty long winded but just wondering if anyone's gone through this before. Cheers.

Absolutely gutted. I stopped jumping a few years ago and moved abroad so I hadn't spoken to Sean enough recently but for a couple of years I spent more time with him than anyone. He had a big influence on me and we had some good times. He was definately unique. I'm feeling for Vicki right now in particular, I know she'll get a load of support through this. Also thinking about all the lads back home, I know you guys are having a tough time. Be careful guys, I'm sick of losing mates. Craig BASE615

I wasn't there but he was a mate of mine. I've been out of the sport for a little while and unfortunately hadn't had the opportunity to see him in a while but he was one of the nicest guys I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and jumping with. I was totally shocked when I got the call on Saturday. As indicated above, he died due to an impact following a deployment problem but since I wasn't there I don't want to post the full details. The guys who were there will be posting details shortly and it'd be good if people didn't fall into the usual pattern of rumours until one of the guys there confirm the full details. BSBD mate, you'll be missed by all of us. Craig

My scariest succesful jump has got to be Le Tree, however, during my jumping career I had 2 BASE accidents, one of them was the calmest experience of my life and one was the scariest jump I ever made. Calmest: 121ft bridge static-lined. Still unsure of why but my static-line failed causing me to go into freefall with my shrivel flap still attached. I suddenly realised what was happening, realised there was nothing I could do and accepted that I was about to die. At that point I was incredibly calm. As it happened, I managed to get bottom skin inflation just above the ground and ploughed in hard. Scariest: 300ft underhung (and bowled) cliff at night. 1 second delay followed by a bit more than 120 left. I turned away and the left control line (furthest left cascaded line) caught on something. My canopy collapsed, I ended up facing out to sea unable to see anything but knowing the cliff was going to hit. I hit the cliff a few times and ploughed into the rocky beach fast. In a lot of pain, I walked out and later found out I'd fractured some vertebrae. Although this wasn't my last jump, the point my canopy collapsed and I realised I couldn't do anything about it was the point my BASE career finished. I find it incredible how you can have 2 situations where you're feeling the same thing (helplessness) yet you react in totally different ways. I was hospital following the bridge jump and all I could think about was jumping again whereas the cliff strike filled me with total panic.

Just a quick note. I've landed on rear risers only and 1 toggle/1 riser and I can definately say that it's easier to get a good flair if you keep your remaining toggle. You have to flair unevenly but if you ditch both you lose a hell of a lot of control surface. Craig

Yeah, it's on Beyond Extreme. He did a double from 180ft with Tom Begic filming while also in freefall. The footage is at the point when he says "The next thing I want to accomplish in acrobatic base is a double-somersault from below 200 feet.", he just did the interview before the jump existed.
